Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

Hopkins' stock has been overvalued and yes, I'd feel the same if he signed with New England. I like the Pats' WR room as is provided they're all healthy.
There’s no way Parker or Thorton play 17 games this season. Will see how Ju’s knee holds up, there’s major health concerns on all 3 players. That’s not an ideal way going into a season.

Im not sure Hopkins would have played 17 either. The WR corp has really been butchered the last 3 years.

Especially considering the two did have a relationship (Vrabel and Hopkins) previously in Houston.
Probably had nothing to do with current Patriots OC Bill O'Brien once comparing Hopkins to serial killer AHern.

Stop.

Hes 31 and has missed 41% of the games the last 2 years.

It makes perfect sense not to pay him that.

It was prob over guaranteed money.

Juju missed 39% same time frame and was still injured when signed and got $16m guaranteed.

And I’m not ****ting on that contract or signing, it’s fine. I’m saying that’s no excuse not to Hop for just 2 seasons. Especially when he’s going into the season with $16m in cap space

Like Brady 4 years ago. Didn’t want to pay him because he was washed.

Stop it.

Hopkins is still one of the best wr in the league. He was on pace for 1400 yards when he was on the field last year. We have a ton of cap space in the future because we didn’t have talent to pay. There is absolutely 0 risks signing Hopkins for 2 years / 13M a year. 0!

I am at a point where I prepare myself for Bill to let Dugger walk because he will be outside of his wanted price range.

If you expected any different, you were kidding yourself. The minute he left without a contract was the minute I gave up. The Titans are willing to overextend to get a guy if it comes to it, we aren’t.
Yup, second I heard he was able to leave, I knew he wasn’t signing here. I never expected him to. The sting is just how cheap he did end up signing for. I expected a Xander situation where he signs some insanely overpaid contract

Yea. Bill thought Tom was washed up. Sure he did.

Sure there is risk. Look at the last 2 years and his age.

It's much more likely they sign Dugger long term because of his youth and because hes been healthy.

That’s quite disappointing. I can only hope he pulls a julio jones and we end up dodging a bullet. But if he performs like a #1 this year we’ll have been pretty foolish to not pony up 2/32 for him.

Hes 26 and coming off a year and played 16 games. Big difference.

So use it all on a 31 year old player who has missed 14 games the last 2 years? No.

Very disappointed. I think the real question is how does the team feel tonight? How do the players feel? How does the front office feel? We know how New England fans feel by this board. Some of these guys gotta come in Monday an face the music. What do you say to Judon, better luck next time?
************ it's not like Brady left or Bird retired.

On pace for 1400 yards? Sure… if he wasn’t suspended for peds. Can’t discount that.

Will the contract we offered ever come out to the public?

That just looks bad.
Another GM decision that weakens the team.

This wasn't a 24-year old All Pro, but it was a receiver that would have improved the team -- and at a minimum given the front office a more objective analysis of Mac Jones.

For those saying "well, at least it wasn't Kansas City" - why? Because now the Patriots are just that much closer to competing with KC?
This is a weak offensive roster. It was a weak offensive roster, and it didn't get better in the draft or free agency. The weaknesses were evident.
Weak at tackle, weak at receiver, weak at tight end, thin at RB, and uncertain at QB. Otherwise, the interior OL looks OK.
Neat.

Use most of it on a guy who will easily be their #1 WR? Yes.

They don’t get any special benefit for having so much cap space.

Whether it be because of injury or PEDs Hopkins has missed on average 7 games a year the last 2 seasons.

Sure as long as there is a strong likelihood he plays 15+ games.

We replaced Jonnu with Gesicki. Upgrade
Meyers with Juju. I think Juju brings more big play ability but health and learning the offense is a ?
OT imo is the biggest ?
Let’s see if we get a 2nd year jump from Strong/Harris at rb.
The biggest upgrade will be going from MattyP to BoB. This cannot be understated.
