Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

It's a difference of $300k a year.

You have to remember you only pay taxes on home games, not road games.
I don't think that's correct. I know for a fact that if you live in Massachusetts and you work out of state, you pay full Massachusetts income taxes. I don't see why it would be any different for athletes whose employment is based in Massachusetts.

is this an indictment on Bill or Kraft?
I’m thinking it’s Kraft and Bill is being silent on it.
I could see a conversation like I pay you to be the top coach now coach the talent we have and went out and drafted.

Only positive thing about this is there is not a senior citizen on the wr corp.

Yes I am 40

Yes I think Bill hates Mac
Yes I’m hoping for a Bourne Identity Breakout.
Or Boutte to look like Justin Jefferson.
If Bill loses the division and Hopkins is a difference maker the public will want to know what the heck.
If it comes out we offered significantly more but didn’t stroke his ego enough that’s a problem too.
If it comes out Hopkins liked their QB situation better huge problem.
If it comes out it’s the chowda then steroid boy can eff off.

This doesn't bother me at all, not completely sure why

I never thought he would sign here, that might be a part of it
I’m with you here. Process dragged on too long. Don’t get me wrong I would’ve loved him here because he would’ve made the offense better but going to Tennessee is a better result than going to Buffalo or KC.

What direction is this team headed? There’s no buzz around them, they refuse to spend money even tho they have loads of cap, a QB who showed promise his rookie year has been put in a position to fail two years in a row now. They refuse to give Mac a WR1, look Hop isn’t elite anymore, but he would have put all these average WRs on the roster now in their place as 2s and 3s.

Bill clearly doesn't care about offense. saddled Mac with a DC/Special teams coach last year. and now is just putting together an average group of receivers.

contrast that with what the Dolphins or Bills did for their QB's.

I think at times the game has passed Bill by and hes holding us back. you aren't winning in todays NFL with a defense/run first team and below average offense.

Don't blame him taking the best offer when you're choosing between Ryan Tannehill and Mac Jones, until Mac shows massive improvement there's no actual proof he's even better than him.

No one is taking less money to have Mac as their quarterback.

Veteran free agents almost always go for the most money, and who can blame them, it’s usually their last big payday.

its not that he signed with Tennesee that bothers me, its that it was only for $13million a year. $12million this year.

Bill paid Agholor $12million, Jonnu smith $12million. But wont extend himself for Deandre Hopkins?

This is exactly my feeling. 2 years??? We’re not talking a Chris Sale situation here. WORST case he is a massive bust (doubtful) and he ends up leaving after next season. No harm done.

I’m in utter shock right now and feel completely stupid for defending Bill the GM against my friend.

He seems to forget that Brady didn’t break out until he got Moss, Welker then Gronk, Jules. How is he going to run out a still unproven QB with a #2 playing as a #1 and a mostly unproven injury prone second year player as #2?

Oops, I forgot Parker. Another injury prone player who will probably start 5 games total.

This WR group could have been SO GOOD with Hop bumping all those guys down to their expected roles.

Nope. Not when Bill is GM with nearly $16m in cap space still available! He may want to cut a few more guys to get it over $20 just in case he wants to have enough padding for a rainy day in the Sahara desert

I think the problem is we weren't offering $13million?

when you pay Agholor $12million, Juju $11million and jonnu smith $12million but wont pay Hopkins $13million it makes no sense.

it looks like we are cheaping out.

Oh well… So we’ve missed out on “OBJ” & “DHop” but cheer up, we’ve still got that “One-Catch Wonder” (T. Thornton aka “OCW”) along with some extra cap $’s to make us feel good…..

Stop.

Hes 31 and has missed 41% of the games the last 2 years.

It makes perfect sense not to pay him that.

It was prob over guaranteed money.

I blame the income taxes.

That might have been the difference. Tennessee has no income tax. Massachusetts has 5% on the first million and 9% on every dollar over that.

If Hopkins plays both years and makes his incentives, it is a probably up to a million dollar difference if the Pats made the same offer. For a guy chasing money, that isn’t a small thing.

This is correct. It is 90%+ the most money. Not Mac, not strength of schedule, not rings (Titans are not winning a ring). BB sticks to his formula, we will see if it is correct. If the Pats thought Hopkins was finished, why did they have him visit? Saying that, I am sure if Hopkins was 4 years younger BB would have offered more, but then more than the Titans and Pats would have offered.

What we really need is for Thornton, Boutte, and/or Douglas to step up. Parker, JJSS, and Bourne are who they are. Makes you think that Thornton is not impressing since the Pats chased Hopkins and extended Parker.

Hopkins' stock has been overvalued and yes, I'd feel the same if he signed with New England. I like the Pats' WR room as is provided they're all healthy.

Part of me is pissed and part of me is relieved.

Mad because they wouldn’t go out and spend the money to make this team possibly better.

Relieved because if they shelled out 13 million and he declined or got injured they aren’t on the hook. No player is without risks and 12 or 13 seemed acceptable though.

I’ve got to believe that with all that money next year they are going to make a splash. They better.

Sign Tee Higgins next free agency or trade for Jerry Jeudy and it changes everything. Money better spent than Hopkins imo.

Very disappointed. I think the real question is how does the team feel tonight? How do the players feel? How does the front office feel? We know how New England fans feel by this board. Some of these guys gotta come in Monday an face the music. What do you say to Judon, better luck next time?
