Deandre Hopkins Visiting Patriots Next Week

I've seen Jonah Williams mentioned a few times now. I know he was a high pick, but wasn't he part of a bad OL that almost got their QB killed? Fill me in if he was a good player on a bad OL, or was he part of the problem. Tell me why I should be excited about adding this player?

He would Automatically become our best option at Left Tackle; and his presence would make Mac less nervous as he stands in the pocket waiting to deliver the mail to DHop, JuJu, Parker, Dawghouse, Double-D, Gesicki, Double-H, Frisk'er, Robinson & Strong...

He would be one of Nine Bengals OLmen who have experience at either college or pro OT or Both if everybody exits TC healthy (not including La'el Collins), so they can afford the hit to their depth there.

And he's requested a trade.

Is he a perennial pro-bowler? No; but he should at least provide Matt Light-caliber protection for Mac's blind side... And the cost shouldn't be particularly steep either: this is the final, 5th-year-option, year of his rookie contract, so he'll be a UFA after the season.

I dont think that poster has. I dont give out many 9's but Hop got one. Pour one out for Dobson and Boyce.
Wow, that's a great stat line very impressive. I'd urge the poster to go to YouTube.. I'm sure he'd be impressed hop has a whole highlight reel.

He's seen him before but there's a narrative out there and people are biting. I'm not arguing he's prime Hop but would immediately be WR1 and add a ton the room. Barring an outrageous price I want him here for Mac.

Agreed! The guy is a phenomenal route runner.. he plays much bigger than 6"2.. he's got huge hands that benefit him on alot of deep balls. Imagine he and Thornton on the outside, juju in the slot, Henry and gisecki down the seams..

Rham and Robinson in the backfield.. Wow just the options Mac would have!

If we had Keenan Allen from this draft and Tyler Lockett instead of Glitch Richards two years later, then we win the 2015 AFCCG in Foxborough for the opportunity to face Scam Newton in the SB.

Fnn around with the Miami game.. that season we had to go to AFCCG@ Broncos where we historically struggled... what terrible game offensively that was.. started off 10-0...

Parker has zero dead cap ramifications if cut, he could also be traded. Bourne has some flexibility to play in different roles, Parker really doesn’t. There’s also a dead cap hit if Bourne is cut.

If Douglass, Nixon, Webb, Lee or Boutte show anything whatsoever and they’ve signed Hopkins… they’d save 6 million by moving on from Parker.
Dead cap considerations are irrelevant as they always are.

Cutting or trading Bourne saves $5.455M, Parker saves $6.205M.

The decision won't be made on this difference.
=========================
The dead cap amount for Bourne that you see concerned about will be part of the 2023 cap no matter what happens. It makes no difference whether you count this as part of Bourne's while on the roster, or as dead cap with him playing elsewhere.

What is it then?
I think it would be 2 or 2 + a ghost year. I don't think anyone's bringing him in for 5 or 6 years, and if they do, well, good luck to them then.

Edit: My thought is I think the same as Belichick and the rest of the front office, it's a 2-year window left, after that, Mac would need to either be paid or replaced, and core players like Judon, Jon Jones, Henry and Dugger would be aging out as well. I'm not super-focused on future development at this point.

I’ve never heard burning a resource becomes irrelevant just because it’s pushed off to next year.

Also I gave other reasons why Bourne was worth keeping over Parker… not the least of which is money, but also position flexibility. Bourne can move around a little.

The Bengals offensive line has been among the worst in the NFL over the last three years, Williams certainly isn't better than Trent if he's dialed in.

They not only have to trade for him, but then pay him a top tier contract... when have the Patriots ever done that?

It's bad business, dumb, you pay twice for one player.

Haven't heard anything about Hopkins' visit to Tennessee today.

Or had they signed Emmanuel Sanders in 2014 like he wanted, he doesn't break the Pats back with those 3rd down conversions. Those 62 yards were more impactful than the stats indicated.
2019

When AB was available it was bye bye Dmaryius Thomas.
Throw in 2013 when Bill let Welker go and tried to replace him with Amendola. Edelman ended up being the replacement and Welker's cliff approached so that worked out for the Pats.

Started in Denver - they had no business losing to Brock Landers led Broncos up 14-0. Then losing to Philly led by Sam Bradford again up 14-0. Then NY. Then Miami. Just one of those games gives them homefield throughout and would've annihilated the overrated Broncos at Gillette.

Hopefully he skipped it and came straight to NE
Ok just sign everyone then.

Not caring leads to stupid cap situations.

See Jonnu Smith.
who said anything about signing anyone? I’m talking about filling a big need who’ll impact your young QB you’re hoping is the future.

Why didn't Vrabel get D-hop signed? Is this a bad sign? Way to much money? Titans 11 million under the cap right?
