DRAFT Kayshon Boutte

JaMarcus Russell?

View attachment 51156

Didn't the Patriots' very own Kenneth "Game Day" Sims say this in 1982?
Sims certainly did not have a #1 pick kind of career and THAT was a disappointment. Injuries didn't help. But he was a solid pro when healthy and DID have an 8 year NFL career, Not even, CLOSE to Jamarcus Russell, Fred

Amazing how you knock Douglas for his shuttle while ignoring that Perry's was virtually the same.
You know I AM a really big shuttle guy. I constantly tout 3 cone times all the time in the draft cycle. BUT in this draft cycle I came across a list of the top 3 cone times since. 2000 The list had 11 names on it. I LITERALLY couldn't recognize 8 of those names. 2 were the "immortal Buster Skrines and D Sanzenbaucher. The 3rd was Daniel Sorenson who was a very solid pro. Kind of makes me wonder you know

Here is the link to ALL the major combine drills. You will see a number of pros that had good to great careers on that list, (Deon Branch has the 2n best shuttle time, btw) BUT you might be surprised to see a LOT of names that you won't recognize, easily over 60%. Again, kind of makes you wonder...

My conclusion is that these drills are JUST "indicators" of athletic talent. The actual results on the field often are determined by drive, processing speed, and the desire to make oneself better, Anyways, here's the link so you can check it out yourself.

Just something to remember for anyone looking for the "next Edelman". Edelman was that overnight success 4 years in the making. Even Welker had 3 years as a no name to develop his game before he came to the Pats. Demario might very well be the next great slot receiver, BUT he's going to have to find other things he can do for a few years while he too develops.
Revisionist history. JE's only impediment in his rookie season was playing behind Welker. When Welker went down in the second to last game of the year, JE had 10 catches for 103 yards in the last game of the season, and then in the playoff loss to the Ravens he led all the receivers with 6 more catches.

Booty isn't a Gadget guy; he's not even in the same Time Zone regarding speed & explosiveness as Marcus is. Did you not catch his "performance" at the combine? Pathetic... Didn't even attempt to improve any of those numbers at his pro day either, just ran the 3-cone which he didn't do at the combine (an ok 7.14)

If he can't cut the mustard here as a boundary receiver, then he won't cut it here period.

Wake Forest's AT Perry should've been the pick.

You heard it here first: Demario Douglas - a true Gadget Guy - makes the team out of camp before Booty does... Though Douglas' shuttle times are nothing about which to brag either... at all...
Captain,
Despite your frequent surliness and negativity, I enjoy reading your posts. You are a rare guy who will post a player he prefers in real time. Most just play the hindsight game years after the draft. And, when you are wrong, you don’t run from a bad call.

So, for most people, I wouldn’t make this comment- but I think you will actually reflect on it. Most patsfans simply cannot accept the following opinion. There is zero correlation between a good 3 cone time and nfl success. When the 3 cone is paired with other attributes, like a blistering 40, that is a better indicator, but still not a great metric.
Here is a list of the nfl wrs with the best 3 cone times:
Jeff MaehlOregon6.422011
Scott LongLouisville6.452010
Dane SanzenbacherOhio State6.462011
Terrence ToliverLSU6.482011

TJ MoeMissouri6.532013
Anthony GonzalezOhio State6.542007
Dylan CantrellTexas Tech6.562018
J’Mon MooreMissouri6.562018
This list looks like a who’s who of guys Patsfans were banging the table for in the 4th and 5th rounds of NFL past who amounted to very little.
The star of the group is Anthony González, drafted in the first round by the Colts (he also had an 4.44 40 time) and had a cup of coffee with the Patriots in an offseason. He finished his career with 99 total catches for about 1300 yards.

The fastest short shuttle times do offer a couple of NFL 1000 yard single season wr’s: however, both Cooks and OBJ had 40 times in the 4.3 range and college production. Cooks put up 1700+ and 16TDs his senior year at Oregon State and OBJ put up over 1100 on 19+ a catch. So, their Short shuttle wasn’t an independent score, but a score paired with an elite 40 time and production.

I think us not drafting aj brown rankles everyone pretty hard . Nkeal Harry is probably the biggest reason for most of us wallowing in wide receiver misery. If only we drafted..... That 2019 was a solid wr class ...

Thanks for the research; yeah not a great list that's for sure... But I don't think anyone's looking for new shuttle & cone records outta this guy; just something more closely resembling those of the average NFL WR at his particular size... Maybe his ankle simply needs more time; if so then a stint on a Reserve list to start the season wouldn't be a huge surprise right now.

We won 6 SBs, I am not worried about one mistake on a WR in 2019. If you are not failing, you are not trying.

Let's hope the ankle can recover with a full-time professional training staff. I think I saw BB say something similar like "Let's get him in-house and see what we can do with the ankle."

I hear you. I think ib the end as fans rationality sometime goes out of windows . Our decline started as soon as drafted Harry . Brady leaving, newton coming in, Edelman retiring, white retiring, hightower losing a step and Patricia coming in .

So there is a multitude of factors, but Harry was such a big failure in a class of exemplary wide receivers that the what ifs continue to ring till we strike gold with yet another receiver. The closest to a decent production ready wr was Meyers an UDFA.

Anyways coming back to Boutte , I hope he shows some potential and becomes a 400 yard / 3 TD receiver in his first year. Though I am more positive on Douglas .

I would think LSU would have an excellent training staff.

And my boy is getting another shot with Pittsburgh.

I am pretty sure that the drafting of Harry was the final straw for Brady. He was fed up with BB's inability to acquire quality WRs. I suspect he put his foot down before the draft and demanded a quality WR. Then BB laid an egg. Goodbye, off to a team with some WRs

My vote would be that the final straw was Kraft forcing Antonio Brown off the team. Brady put AB up in his house and recruited him to Tampa the next year.

Why are we talking about Brady in this thread? Not to mention re-writing what actually happened. Brown shot his way off the team by not following the terms of his contract. Blaming anyone but him is just silly.

Boutte is going to get his chance. It's going to be interesting to see how he does. Same with Douglas.
