DRAFT Kayshon Boutte

Well he did get in trouble for being involved in a gang bang with a female member of staff, which led to her being fired. So maybe that public embarrassment made him mature a bit?
Hadn't heard about that.

I’d seen something about a “sex party” the night before a postseason game, nothing more.
Yeah - it wouldn't have been a big deal, but I think it may have been in a team area (similar to the Lions players' betting suspensions).

The more I watch/read about this kid the more I get excited about this pick, or at least as excited as you can get for a guy who may not make the roster. Definitely seems like a boom or bust pick after the way his career went at LSU. Boutte comes from a premier program that has churned out some of the best receivers in the league the last few years and early on he looked to be next in line. I know he has some character concerns and battled injuries last year and hopefully that was the cause of a pretty abysmal combine. His 40 times were subpar and his vertical was horrendous at 29 inches but hopefully it was lingering effects from being banged up all season because on tape he plays way faster than he tested.

I’m still waiting for the draft pick that says they’re just going to coast and don’t have any desire to learn the playbook.

NFL Network draft coverage had a story about Will Levis, that when he went to Peyton Manning's QB camp, he was asking him a lot of questions about how he got all of the TV commercial deals that he got, and not a lot about actually playing football. They said it may have contributed to his fall to the 2nd round. Not the same as saying something like that in public though, so you're right. No one ever gets in front of the microphone and lets that kind of mask slip (intentionally anyway).

I don't put much stock into vertical because a WR don't have to jump every time to catch the football unless he's playing with Jump ball Joe. :)

From someone who watched a good chunk of Brown film when he was in college, AB was always an outside guy that could play inside. The reason he went so low was the level of competition. Not because of production or perceived lack of effort at a top school.
That and maybe the 4.57 Combine 40 time, the 33.5" VJ, and the even-I-could-do-that-right-now-as-a-smurf-at-around-50yrs old 8'9" Broad Jump.

Welker had a 30" VJ. Boutte's not gonna be a contested catch dude that's for sure, but that's not what the Pats need him to be.

Similar thing happened with Barmore he was supposed to be a nailed on top-20 pick. He went to some performance compound and apparently rubbed Warren Sapp the wrong way so Sapp ran his mouth saying **** like "he isn't worth a 3rd round pick". Definitely contributed to him falling to the 2nd. Because you also had guys in the national media like Greg Bedard saying how Barmore dogged a lot at Alabama and took plays off and wasn't going to ever get "practice player of the week"

He dominated at times against the best competition. I wonder if he makes the team whether or not he had more receiving yards than the second-rounder last year, Boney Thornton.

Go, Kayshon Boutte! I want you to give the opposing team the boot.

I can only imagine the fun Zolak can have on the radio with that.

Yes, but Welker was actually 30" tall, so it scales.

Edit: He's my height. Fine for a writer, a little smurfy for a receiver.

I like the home run swing in the 6th round, but based on this guy's negatives, I doubt he makes it in the active roster.

He did not rehab his ankle correctly, he has attitude, he clearly dies not love football.

He will wash out once the dog days of training camp hit and the coaches are yelling at him.

You don't put much stock in verticals because this guy's VJ sucks.

Let's play a little game. Right now, this guy is a shiny new toy. Once he puts on the Pats uniform and gets the stink of the Pats WRs suck all over him, you can't get on him because he's losing jump balls.

I know this is totally ancdotal, but I broke my ankle in my mid-20s. I was pretty active, but obviously not a college athlete. But it took me a good year or longer to get back my full mobility of my ankle and be back to what I was before the injury. I experienced a lot of tightness in the ankle for a while. I assume his second surgery was to take out the hardware which I did because it was uncomfortable. That set me back too.

I was pretty harsh in my opinion of the pick when we took him in the sixth (day drinking can do that), but I am hoping for some positives. Last season, for the first 5 games, Jayden Daniels looked extremely confused and uncomfortable with the new system. Surprisingly, it wasn't until the Tigers got smoked by Tennessee that the offense started to click. However, by that time, Jayden became attached with Malik Neighbors as his binkie. Second and third options were Kayshon and TE Mason Taylor (Son of Jason Taylor and an absolute baller).

I'm hoping the "fall from grace" from #1 receiver taken to 6th round helps in humbling the young man. He did have some big moments for LSU, and something should be said for him not taking the transfer portal when Ed O' got canned. Also, he's LSU and I always root for my LSU guys (especially Pats and Saints).

Oh, and nobody ever calls him boo-tay down here. It's booty.

Got to admit it, this kid, Bolden, and Cunningham are my binkies going into camp.
Boutte got a couple of tough breaks, literally and figuratively, but the talent is there. He's got a chip on his shoulder.

Again, the talent is there. he showed it against SEC teams. His ceiling is high, so very high.
Bolden comes in with a big weight on his shoulder (only HBCU kid drafted) and high expectations from Sanders - and I love that Sanders went to coach Jackson St. and the things he's doing there.

And Cunningham...just loves the game, man.
Those three are all longshots, of course, and I'm rooting for them. (Also love White's no-nonsense attitude!)

Obviously this is pending any other signings, but I see Bolden or possibly Speed taking Wade's spot as the 6th corner eventually. Boutte, depending on the ankle, will battle Nixon and Montgomery for that #5 WR. I think in the end Boutte, once again depending on health, will be our #5. If he is still a little dinged, stash him and get him completely right for next year.
