Deion Sanders was the complete opposite of a "hard hitter," but he is in the Hall of Fame.
exactly, Norm. In all my years I have NEVER seen a "perfect" NFL football player. Wait...check that for a sec...Bo Jackson. But yeah, every player has his strengths and weaknesses. Good coaching brings the former to the front and minimizes a player's weak spots. Players like Sanders would be superstars no matter who the coach is IMO

Yeah, absolutely, and it seems like I have done a poor job of articulating my sentiment on him. I think he is a really good player. I don't dislike him as a player, I am very enthused about his potential. I think he is a very good mirror corner. I just would prefer someone with a more violent playstyle in the first. The Patriots were aways known for their physicality and while the player is objectively very skilled with the highest ceiling I just don't see the demeanor in him I feel the team needs. Irrespective of position. They need to get meaner.
They've never really had that at corner, though. At safety, they have, just not really ever at corner. Maybe going all the way back to Ty Law, but I can't think of anyone who has fallen into that category since then.

Speak of the devil...and he shall appear lmao. I do not consider myself an expert at all but I challenge you to show me a single piece of evidence that suggests Gonzalez can deliver tone-setting tackling nor any semblance of an attempt to deliver one. Press is a state of mind, not a body type. The boy has the body type to do it but as Bill Parcells famously said, "You can't teach a puppy that doesn't bite how to bite as a dog."

There are several "highlight" tackles of him making stops on a RB at or behind the LOS. They aren't hard to find. Your statements about Gonzalez are ill-informed.

He said, and I quote 'the league hates him'. Which is obviously ********, but to be expected from that tool.
hahaha fair enough

McCourty was responsible for the DB play the past decade. We cannot count on that this year.

You've clearly never listened to McCourty talk about the Belichick boys ability to coach.

Bruinz, love ya brother but those were all cut tackles. And not just on tackling, my issue is moreso on the aggression on mauling receivers off the line. I just don't think he likes violence. I'm not saying he is a bad player, he's an awesome player. But I just dont think he has the attitude you want in defensive players.

Exemplary like Jonathan Wilhite, Tyrone Wheatley, Joe Juan Williams, Ras-I Dowling, Devin McCourty (HOF caliber safety, yes, but busted at corner), should we look at the rest of the defensive backfield as well and consider all nine thousand of the busted safeties too? It wasn’t until McCourty quarterbacked the secondary that the NE defensive back pipeline became a thing. The patriots don’t have the Brady of the secondary who elevated everyone around him anymore. It is poor strategy to rely upon it.

JFC, you're delusional. McCourty was not a bust at Corner.
It's amazing how you list off the few busts at CB and Safety but ignore the likes of JC Jackson, Malcolm Butler, Jonathan Jones, and Patrick Chung.

What a crazy stance for you to take. As is your giving the success of the secondary totally to DMac when even he stated that the Belichick Boys have been exceptional coaches.

So, you're making a statement about an "Attitude" you know zero about. Got it.

Christian Arcan says that the league hates Gonzalez and Bill can't pick CBs so this guy will obviously suck.

The draft isn't over and the defense was definitely an issue last season.

The Defense wasn't an issue except when having to handle Diggs. No one could do it. Marcus Jones was better than Jon Jones at it, buy Diggs still had a field day.
It's going to be fun watching Diggs against Gonzalez this year.

Press man was cited as one of his strongest suits.

Well, I am exposing myself a bit here but I coach bjj and mma. I still compete in both sports. I know it is a very soft value to attribute but demeanor and attitude is everything in what makes a competitor and a winner. I can coach anyone in technique. But the guys who can go fight and win just have it genetically.

Bedard just posted a very long and well sourced thread citing multiple league sources that echo my exact sentiment re: CG.

Helluvapick!

He also called it nitpicking.

He also called it nitpicking.
Sure, and it is. However, if you were asked to describe the players whom won multiple championships here would you describe them first by their athletic attributes or their demeanor and how they played? Would you ascribe the great players like Harrison, Bruschi, Edelman, Brady, the men who defined the teams who won titles by their physical prowess or what incredible, ferocious competitors they were? That is all that I am saying.

People forget that that is just not needed as much in today’s NFL. Players aren’t allowed to do those things anymore like Law could in his day (well at least until 2004)

These players become penalty magnets. I would say Browner in 14 was a guy we did have like this.

I wanted an OT but I’m happy with this pick. Hopefully an OT in round 2 or 3.
Wonder if Bergeron or Dawand Jones will be takes at 46. Gets thin after that until more mid round value guys. At least for tackles. Plenty of good interior guys available.

I went to the front page to see who has posted in this thread, but we still have not gotten @captain stone's thoughts on the pick?

Yay or nay Captain?
