That's a cope and a cop out and you know it. You challenged me, I didn't challenge you. You were terse and rude in your post. Which is fine provided one can validate it. If one wants to challenge the opinion of another the onus is on them to disprove it. And you cannot. Therefore you were simply being an ******* and acting off of emotion. If you would like to provide evidence disproving my evaluation you are welcome to. I will review it with an open mind and willingness to revise my opinion and apologize for being incorrect. However you cannot present this evidence and therefore were just being a ****. Shame on you.
You absolutely challenged everyone to do your research for you.

I love the pick and I love that he looked pissed about being the 3rd corner off the board/falling out of the top 10.

And aside from a few of the usual negative Nancies here….I think this is the most popular Patriots draft pick on this board…approval rating here has to be in the 97-99% range.

They had a bunch of needs so this pick isn’t surprising. Their CB’s were severely overmatched by the NFL’s best WR’s.

Now I’d like to see OT, WR and MLB.
I’d say our corners were overmatched by the NFL’s best “big” WR’s, the Pats did pretty well against the best small WR’s like the Miami tandem… especially since our offense was dead weight.

They seriously needed size and length to match up against the Diggs and Bengals WR’s of the world.

We got the best “big” CB prospect in the draft to fill that need. Onto day two…

Christian Gonzalez given a chance to answer some questions and react to being drafted by the Patriots:

Christian seems like a humble young man who sounds genuinely excited to face the challenges ahead of him.

I watched roughly 100 hours of tape on him. I did it while I ran my cardio for the real sport I play and coach professionally. I have seen all-22 of every single snap he has taken. You're just reciting some **** you read on the internet. Stop being disrespectful.

A ‘what’s not to be happy about?’ pick. One question though, surely covered somewhere, but wonder why even take the risk that he’d be scooped up before 17?

Obvious reason is they had others graded the same, or comparably, but wonder who would’ve been the pick if he was gone.
Also, BB just really hates the Jets that much.

Speak of the devil...and he shall appear lmao. I do not consider myself an expert at all but I challenge you to show me a single piece of evidence that suggests Gonzalez can deliver tone-setting tackling nor any semblance of an attempt to deliver one. Press is a state of mind, not a body type. The boy has the body type to do it but as Bill Parcells famously said, "You can't teach a puppy that doesn't bite how to bite as a dog."
I appreciate conviction but think you're a little off here. Gonzo is a pup at 20 yo. You're never drafting a finished product nor would you want to at that spot but the kid is not in his final form. Think about the difference in overall strength at 25 compared to 20 or 30 compared to 25. Once you hit 24-25 you're really finished growing but more importantly filling out and ready to take on the world. We have one of the better s&c programs in the country. It's notoriously hard, especially on the lower half so I have no doubt he'll be a specimen in a few years but look and feel different as well.

He's a "chopper" he likes to chop carriers down as opposed to see it, hit, follow through and drive. He needs to use his length a little more. It's obviously not his strongest area but like most of his "concerns" there's not a lot of glaring holes to the point they're real weaknesses.

I'm more concerned about his ability to take advantage and improve in zone as well as tracking, locating against the best the NFL has to offer. And he's inconsistent in those areas again no huge holes.

Hes not DeeboSpoon in the run game but he doesnt have to be. He just needs to be above average and reliable. He might not have that dog in him that Spoon has but you cant teach his blend of range, size, athleticism, versatility, physicality and Smarts.

We don't need a tone setter tbh with Dugger, Phillips, Peppers etc but we did need his "type." Bigger, top tier athlete with a lot of upside.

I've watched 101 hours of tape on him, while doing cardio for the sport that I play - the sport is called: making love to 3 mamacitas simultaneously - and I disagree with everything you have posted in this thread.

Thanks man, that's a really substantive and enlightening post. I agree that he's a brilliantly athletic dude with really good mirror skills. He's a great player. Objectively. It will be interesting to see if he can develop the aggression we want to see in our defensive backs.

I don't recall Revis or Gilmore being "hard hitters" either but I feel like both were adequate enough to be who they needed them both to be in coverage ... so ...? I mean, taking this kid, especially in the first round, essentially provides a pretty good foundational player in their secondary for the next potentially five years. If he can break up passes, shutdown some of the league's better wideouts and takeaway the football and throw his body in front of people, I feel like it's a pretty good pick?

Sorry. I don't believe a single word of that.

Yeah, absolutely, and it seems like I have done a poor job of articulating my sentiment on him. I think he is a really good player. I don't dislike him as a player, I am very enthused about his potential. I think he is a very good mirror corner. I just would prefer someone with a more violent playstyle in the first. The Patriots were aways known for their physicality and while the player is objectively very skilled with the highest ceiling I just don't see the demeanor in him I feel the team needs. Irrespective of position. They need to get meaner.

Post pick euphoria has worn off and the Felcher/Gasbagarotti clones are out in force playing the usual denigration tactics. No matter what the Pats do in round 2 tonight, there'll be a gaggle of Gloomy Gus types whining and complaining. You're 100% correct...Gonzo IS a "pretty good pick". Here's to a couple more "pretty good picks" tonight.

Deion Sanders was the complete opposite of a "hard hitter," but he is in the Hall of Fame.

Christian Arcan says that the league hates Gonzalez and Bill can't pick CBs so this guy will obviously suck.

Did he say that or did he say the sentiment around the league is that he isn't physical?

He said, and I quote 'the league hates him'. Which is obviously ********, but to be expected from that tool.
