The Mahomes/Chiefs Discussion Thread

Brady won 4 Super Bowls, 3 Super Bowl MVPs, and an NFL MVP after Deflategate. He also should have won league MVP in 2016 and 2021. And BB cost him an 8th SB in 2017 (and probably a 9th in 2015). Deflategate and Spygate are complete nonfactors when evaluating Brady's NFL career.

Spygate is going to dog Belichick a little bit since it was his blatant arrogance to blame. But none of the Patriots Lombardi's are tarnished at this point. Only haters hold onto their pathetic arguments.
Agreed with the exception that, even though Bill made some questionable coaching decisions near the end of 15' (that Fins game), I think the bigger factor in the discussion was simply how crippled the team was by injuries: no Lewis, no Solder, no running game after Blount went down, Edelman and Amendola both hampered with nagging injuries (Jules was out for weeks that season IIRC).. Couple that with the regression of the O-line coaching-wise, and that joke of a ref job that November night in Denver, and you get a team that was still an extra point away from a likely SB trip and probable win.

In short, Bill may have cost them HCA, but I think a healthier team would probably have gotten the job done on the road the way the 2018-2019 team did.

So what does it tell you about the so-called GOAT that he can't even beat Jake Plummer, Foles, or Tannehill in the playoffs?
And yet Kermit has never beaten him when it matters. And never will. What does that say about Kermit?

Nothing. He didn't go undefeated in the postseasons of his 23 year career.

Brady had numerous playoff stinkers, including SB 42 when he only had 1 TD pass. That's pathetic considering the Pats averaged 38 PPG during the regular season. Even more pathetic that he laughed at his opponent pre-game. And that was the most important game in NFL history.
Actually he didn't laugh at anyone but you just keep saying it anyway. Brady gave his team the lead late in that "most important game in NFL history." Belichick's defense blew it. Mahomes was THE reason why the Chiefs lost the 2021 AFCCG. Just a complete humiliation for Mahomes.

Yeah, but losing to a bunch of losers...ouch.

Brady: "We're only going to score 17 points. He he he heh. Is Plax going to play defense?" No Tommy, he'll just score the game-winning touchdown and rip your heart out with 39 seconds left.

Brady gave his team the lead late in that "most important game in NFL history." Belichick's defense blew it.

You might want to rewatch that game if you can stomach it. Brady was 2 for 9 in scoring drives. And the only reason he even managed to lead his team on a late touchdown drive was that the Giants D was gassed and the guy covering Moss slipped on the turf. If Brady were smart he would have ran more clock off when he got to the 7-yard line, but instead decided to throw 3 passes.

First down - Misses badly to a wide open Moss on the left side (Troy Aikman on the broadcast: "Tom just rushed that throw.")

Second down - Brady throws in double coverage BEHIND Welker

Third down - Brady hits Moss for a touchdown after Corey Webster slips.

So when the Pats got to the Giants 7-yard line, Brady killed a grand total of 30 seconds on 3 downs. Oopsie.

Mahomes was THE reason why the Chiefs lost the 2021 AFCCG. Just a complete humiliation for Mahomes.

The Bengals changed their game plan in the second half to not rush Mahomes and flood the zone with extra defensive backs. It's no different than what Rex Ryan used to do to Brady. Mahomes made adjustments in 2022 and bounced back nicely.

It's pretty sad, actually. His numbers and accolades suggest that he should have a lot more than 43%. It appears that he's not as respected as you'd think. Let's just say a couple of "controversies" over the past 20 years probably have something to do with his low numbers.

OTOH, nearly 70% of Americans say Jordan is the NBA GOAT...Americans know game when they see it.

Exactly. It was a 5+ minute drive that burnt plenty of clock. The only thing that mattered at that point was Brady handed Belichick a 4 point lead with 2:42 left in the game. Belichick couldn't stop Eli Manning. Belichick blew the perfect season. (Well, him and the refs.)

I don't care what Mahomes supposedly did after getting completely humiliated in that AFCCG. Epic choke.

Gronk is still the greatest TE. But Kelce will probably pass him eventually. Maybe even soon.

No, I suggest you listen to Brady himself who said in Man in the Arena that he could not figure out the Giants exotic blitz schemes. Steve Spagnoulo, the great Chiefs defensive coordinator (and Giants d-coordinator at the time), mixed it up to confuse Brady. He even changed his signals around from the regular season game just in case...you know. And it worked. Brady played like garbage for 57 minutes and then has a fluke td drive at the end when the Giants were gassed. So sorry, Brady doesn't get credit for showing up for 3 mins and putting the Patriots in the lead. Besides, most of that drive was welker and Faulk and their yards after catch. Lastly, Brady had the ball LAST with 28 seconds left and 3 TOs - all he needed was 45 yards to get the team into FG range and he couldn't even pull that off. in contrast Mahomes tied the Bills with 13 seconds left. Too bad Brady doesn't have a bigger arm.

Against a good team like the Bengals. Better than losing and getting humiliated by Eli Manning twice. And not to mention Sanchez, Flacco, Tannehill, Plummer, and Foles....

Gronk can never be the GOAT TE because of durability issues.

Brady is so awesome. It’s a shame he won’t get to beat Kermit like a drum a third time in a row when it matters. We all know he would.

So awesome that only 40% of the country thinks he's the GOAT. Also so awesome that he can't beat crappy QBs in the playoffs, as is well documented. So awesome that it took him 21 years to beat Peyton's regular season numbers, which is 4 more years than what it took Peyton to accomplish the same feat.

Mahomeboy couldn't beat a 40 + year old Tom who can't beat crappy QBs that's terrible by your logic

Proves my point that a head to head comparison in football makes no sense. Brady and Mahomes were never on the field at the same time. And they didn’t play against the same defenses. But it’s the only thing SB1 has

Don't be such a nitwit. Firstly the 40% thing is ********.

Secondly, for Brady to win his 7th Super Bowl he beat:

Drew Brees (@NO): 1x SB winner, SB MVP, 4x NFL MVP runner-up, top 10 all-time QB
Aaron Rodgers (@GB): 1x SB winner, SB MVP, 4x NFL MVP, top 10 all-time QB
Patrick Mahomes (SB 55): 2x SB winner, 2x SB MVP, 2x NFL MVP, top 10 all-time QB

That's an all-time epic postseason run by Brady (at 43!).

And as has been pointed out 1000+ times, Brady is 2-0 against Mahomes in the postseason, both times resulting in an SB ring for Brady. Mahomes had his chances against Brady in the postseason, he lost, and that's never going to change. If by some miracle Mahomes reaches 7 SB rings, he'll still be #2 behind Brady. So get used to it.

Says who? You? Morning Consult is a reputable polling company. It's certainly a better gauge of the American People than you or SB1.

No it's not. Brees was recovery from a collapsed lung and 12 broken ribs which he sustained earlier that season. Once again fortune smiles on Brady. Rodgers is a bum - you said so yourself. Mahomes had no offensive line.

Again. for the 1000th time dippy, head-to-head is meaningless when we are talking football. QBs play defenses, not other QBs. Mahomes played the Patriots and Bucs defenses, while Brady played average Chiefs defenses in those two games.

If H2H is meaningless then why have we been taking shots at Brady losing to Eli, Foles etc. to name a few?

Only to point out how stupid head-to-head is. I thought those nitwits SB1 and crawhammer would learn something by my bringing that up but apparently not...I'm sure they'll blame Bill for those losses like always.

I agree it's reputable and therefore it's only logical that Tom Brady is the winner of the poll by an absolute landslide. As he should be. The greatest QB that ever existed in this sport and likely ever will exist in this spot. Hands down.

Would you rather talk about Belichick's 3-11 coaching record in the playoffs against Tom Coughlin, Rex Ryan, Mike Vrabel, John Harbaugh, Doug Pederson, Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher, John Fox and Gary Kubiak?

Whatever source you can point to that says "only 40% of the country" thinks Brady is the best QB of all-time is NOT reputable.

You had Tampa Bay losing all of those matchups. You were wrong. And your excuses suck.

Nice try zippy. Head-to-head counts, especially for QBs. You harp on Eli's 2-0 v Brady all the time. Too bad Eli couldn't muster up a decent career otherwise so he's not even in the top 20. It's why Bradshaw ranks so high on the all-time list, head-to-head he outperformed all of his contemporaries, and he was hardly just doing it on the back of the steel curtain.

You can't just ignore Brady's 2-0 v Mahomes. It's real, it's meaningful, and it'll probably be the difference between the two in the end.

So you have no response. You're the dimwit that keeps saying he's the "universal GOAT," and when I present solid evidence otherwise, you can't come up with anything. 40% is pathetic.

You had Tampa Bay losing all of those matchups. You were wrong. And your excuses suck.

How about you prove it. I was right about Brady embarrassing himself in 2021 and 2022, and that is well documented. Shall we revisit your preseason predictions about how Brady was going to run away with the MVP in 2022 and win the SB?

You still haven't proven why H2H means anything. I just wrecked your argument and once again you present nothing in response. And Mahomes had zero help from Ernie Adams, so THAT will be the tiebreaker.
