Player Signing Patriots Showing Serious Interest in JuJu Smith-Schuster (Update: Done)

Myers had to compete with traffic cones for targets. Schuster had to compete with Kelce.
He was the benefactor of having a HOF QB and HOF TE and still barely outproduced a receiver who had a bunch of nobodies around him to take the pressure off.

I like Bourne and Parker but if they want Higgins they need the cap space and both those guys become redundant.

Higgins moves the needle.

Love the JuJu signing but it's not going to scare defenses.
Higgins is great but slow. Might want a draft pick or Jeudy.

Are you talking about Bill O'Brien? If so, you need to capitalize that last B, buddy. Otherwise the implication is Bob Kraft.
Sorry Buddy I meant our OC.

I am comparing the 2023 Russell Wilson (who has been on the decline for several years) to Jones.
QBRs for Russell Wilson 2012 to 2022

No decline for "several years." Wilson has the 5th highest career passer rating (100.2) in the history of the NFL. Plus he's rushed for 5000 yards in his career with 26 rushing TDs. He had one bad season (with a passer rating basically equal to Mac's). He has a much better chance than Mac to have a rebound season. I'll take Sean Payton over Bill O'Brien any day of the week too. Not that BOB is bad, SP is just better.

Curran recycling last year's take, but still kinda interesting:

I hear ya, but if you have that many new players at the position I'd be hesitant to dump Bourne in favor of Berrios. Bourne isn't that expensive and would have familiarity with the team and system. I suppose Berrios has some level of familiarity too, so maybe not a huge deal but having at least one guy who has been here a couple years seems beneficial.
BOB is implementing his own system which is a good chunk of EP. Forget that crap last year.

I specifically named Berrios because he'll be familiar with it as will Mac.

Remember...JuJu was in EP in Pitt for 4 years.

Not sure what you point is. Myers was our top (sometimes ONLY target). Schuster wasn't KCs

no way getting higgins, get judy for a 2 and 4 this year and a 2 next year or bite the bullet and give the 14 to denver they need draft capital because of wilson....
I can live with that

Definitely agree what Juju is a player that will have to command attention.. he runs excellent routes, great hands & is unlta physical he'll actually fight DBs for the ball.. we aren't Done I still believe a trade will happen.. when this offense is said and done in a few months I think we'll be very happy as fans.. I'd also love to add berrios..
Great post until you mentioned Berrios. He is so bad the JETE released him for cap space. Didn't resign at a lower number. That should be a hint.

Juju made his name in PITT, the guys has performed like a number 1 before he's had production... something to feel good about we finally got a WR worthy of at least garnering attention... still more to come..

I like those numbers. Meyers would’ve been safer but juju could potentially do much more for us

They're different. Meyers is a little better at getting open, quicker change of direction running patterns, and really good hands. JuJu is stronger, better runner after the catch. I loved Jakobi, but I'm happy if Bill & BOB are happy.

Obviously this has been in the works for the past few days at least - the Pats orchestrated this, it wasn't a reaction to losing Meyers.

Well I mentioned Berrios as he was on this roster before.. maybe BOB could put him in spots??

well speaking of the JETE they are pretty stacked offensively.. we are basically going to be contending with them for a playoff spot..

the need more this just replaces myers need maybee two
You're a stat hound, I will refer you to @Sicilian post earlier:
Interesting contract... just for comparison's sake:

Jakobi Meyers: 60 games, 235 catches (3.92/g), 2758yds (46/g), 8 TDs

JuJu: 79 games, 401 catches (5.08/g), 4788yds (60.6/g), 29 TDs

Both get the same contract. JuJu has some injury problems, but still, surprising that the market would value them the same, especially with JuJu coming off a good season and a ring.
That's as good of a take as there is in this thread.

They mortgaged the future, but should be good for 2 years.

That’s more of an indictment of their WR situation. No offense to Meyers, I liked him, but he has major limitations that many others have commented on in this thread.
Juju isn't the WR he looked like he was going to be after 2018. That was 5 years ago. He's not terrible, I don't hate the signing, but I don't see how it's an upgrade over what Meyers would have given the Patriots offense this season under O'Brien.

Apparently yards and TDs don't mean anything anymore. I am assuming this because you clearly didn't want to show how the last two years he was significantly down in this category.

I'm talking about EP also - Bourne ran it with McDaniels 2 years ago. He'd be the only guy currently rostered who ran it in New England. Thornton did not. Like I said, Berrios has some familiarity but not recently. I don't think we are that far apart though.
