Player Signing Patriots Showing Serious Interest in JuJu Smith-Schuster (Update: Done)

Meyers and Smith-Schuster are close in size (6'-2 200# vs 6'-1 215#)

Wording is a little nebulous, I'm guessing the second year has a higher salary that is guaranteed in order to make it fit more into next year's cap, while year 1 is really low and a small signing bonus like $9M. So something like:

2023: $1M salary, $3M bonus proration, cap hit $4M
2024: $13M salary (guaranteed), $3M bonus proration, cap hit $16M
2025: $10M salary, $3M bonus proration, cap hit $13M - not guaranteed, dead money only $3M if released

So you are expecting that Jones won’t improve with a real OC?
He better or it's Zappe time by November.

You're comparing a veteran QB with a HOF trajectory who had 1 subpar season out of 11 to a 2-year QB with mediocre numbers (at best). Of course I think the probable HOFer is going to improve more than Mac with a better OC.

I’ve got no problem with JuJu…I’m just not confident he is going to be any better then Meyers.

Patriots Adding a WR, Expected to Sign JuJu Smith-Schuster

According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are signing Kansas City Chiefs free agent WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, which at least adds a productive player to a group that still has holes to fill.

Last 2 contracts Ju-Ju signed were for $8m and $3,7m. Let's see if he does better.

If were overpaid for this guy, whose stats were inflated because he was Mahomes #1 option outside of Kelce, Belichick will show he's spending too much money for average players.
Thats like saying Edleman‘s stats were overrated because Brady threw the ball to him all the time.
If you can get open and catch the ball then give me that guy.

They're also basically the same age (just weeks apart). But Juju's shown a lot more potential in my opinion than Jakobi has. I think Jakobi guarantees that you'll get league average performance, but Juju at least has the potential to be above average if you put an actual WR1 next to him.

[Insert WR1]/Juju/Parker/Bourne seems like it could be a pretty entertaining WR group.

Actually, Felger says it is a downgrade and he would rather have Meyers.
"Felger says" the Packer fan who makes a living off of "ginning up" controversies and nontroversies about the New England Patriots.

I wanted talented ones. He’s not even an upgrade over Jakobi.
I think he is a more dynamic player. I looked up a synonym for dynamic because I keep going back to it, didn't find one I liked. Zesty. Potent. Meh.

I agree, he is a good player but not a #1 receiver. They still have a gap there. If they can get that #1 receiver, Juju as the #2, Bourne and Thornton rotating as the #3 and Henry as the TE is a good crew. Parker can be traded.
Cut Bourne and Parker and save $11m in 2023.

Trade 14th to Cinci for Higgins.

Sign Higgins 5y/$120m $60m guaranteed

WR1- Higgins
WR2- JuJu
TE1- Henry
TE2- Rookie
RB1- Rham
WR3- Berrios
WR4- Thornton
WR5- JAG

I quickly checked out the Chiefs message board on Reddit. 90+% of the posters are surprised that the Chiefs did not offer him that deal and the overwhelming consensus is that it is a very reasonable contract for "a player of his caliber", as some their fans put it.

FWIW

Meyers haven't put up 1000yds or 900yds yet in a season let's not kid ourselves. Juju did that impressively twice I think Bob our OC made this choice.

This isn't your number 1 guy. This is the guy who's replacing Aggy.

It's a start. Still need another 2 guys imo.
