Jakobi Meyers ▣ Free Agency

Would you trade our 1st rounder?
For Higgins? I'd seriously think about it leaning towards a yes.

I think Mac and the offense badly need a playmaker at WR if they want a chance at getting to the Super Bowl.

I don't understand the, "I would pay him $13 million but not $15 million thing." The money isn't coming out of your wallet and they can find the room in the cap. It also doesn't mean they can't go after Tee Higgins or Jeudy next year. I don't think Bill is going to want to trade the picks and then a big contract to make either of those moves happen this season.

Meyers is the only thing that moved the offense at all through the air this year and I think you pay the extra to make sure this season is your floor for next season and you're not starting somewhere far worse.

If we are banking on Mac to develop we don't take away Mac's safety valves and hope new person strikes gold.

First + fourth + 22 million for tee Higgins... That would be a pass. Possibly the 29th or 30th pick which means we trade from 14 to 30 + 38 and give away one pick for Higgins .

My problem with this is that we can get a cheap All-Pro at #14. The kind that many other teams have. But we never pick high enough to land thse kind of players.

Let's say we take Devin Witherspoon. The real question is then, would you rather have a #1CB and Jakobi Meyers + $5m in cap space or Tee Higgins?

That's my thing, too. Typically when we have a pick that high, we get a blue chip defense piece that becomes the anchor of our defense for years afterward.

I think the problem is you can do the $2m overpay once. But you do it 5 or 6 times and all of a sudden you are out a whole solid starter.

witherspoon meyers and 5 million seems much better to me. I think if you have glaring needs at outside CB, starting LT and starting RT as well as WR you don't trade let's say pick 14 and a mid rd pick for a WR who you need to pay a lot too

Without o-line protection higgings will not make such a difference as he could, mac needs good protection to suceed, he can't make a lot of plays without protection

They seem to agree with this philosophy as well, since whenever they do have a pick in the top 20, they use it. Sometimes it's a small trade down (like 7 to 10 for Mayo), but they always use the pick in the top 20. It just feels like they don't do that sometimes because you can count the number of top 20 picks they've had in the BB era on one hand:

2021: 15th
2011: 17th (acquired in the Seymour trade from Oakland)
2008: 7th (acquired from SF in a trade down the year before I think?)
2003: 14th
2001: 6th

Eventually we'll need a WR at least as good as Higgins. But if you want to be really good, you simply must hit on your draft picks.
And that Starts with #14 in the upcoming Draft. Our goal this season should be to split with the Bills and stop being their wiping boys.

Yea. Losing Meyers will be a blow no question. With that said, if Meyers is getting $15m then i'd rather trade for Higgans and pay him ~$20m
Tee Higgins on the open market (which he will never get to) is probably looking at a $90+ million contract over four years. You might have to pay him 22 to 23 million per year and give up your first round pick to get him.

Probably. The dude is a stud.

I don't think the Bengals can afford to keep him next year. That's why they might trade him this year if they can get a good return for him.

It would be worth it.

People also should note that just because a WR works in one system doesn’t mean he will produce on this new team. AJ Brown was an immediate impact player for the Eagles and helped them to Super Bowl. Marquis Brown though fell off with the Cardinals.

Edit: not saying Higgins won’t be good. You just better be certain he will be before making a trade giving the contract. You’re stuck.

He's a Big time player though look at his production can't get something for nothing. Tee Higgins would make Mac Jones look good.

I would try to trade down to pick up another 2nd and then trade the new 1st for Higgins. The Bengals probably just want a 1st and won’t turn you away if it’s 14 or 21.

Problem is you can't force another team to trade with you on draft night either. If they can't get a trade down partner I may be more inclined to just draft a WR at 14. Maybe Cincy will take a 3rd + next year's 1st.
