The Mahomes/Chiefs Discussion Thread

Hey dummy, the QB signals were already being sent via headset in 2001. There were no offensive signals to tape.

Hence, why Bill was taping DEFENSIVE signals, and those signals were for the benefit of the offense.

Yeah Brady benefited so much from knowing defensive signals that he scored one touchdown in SB 36. As many touchdowns as were scored by the Pats defense.
Do better.

So what about the 2003 and 2004 playoffs?

You might want to invest in a dictionary. A loophole means something that is within the rules.

Do better.

There was no loophole when it came to taping a team's signals. Ray Anderson clarified that in 2006 and Goodell said it was a major violation.

“This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field,” Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to the Patriots.

Calculated = on purpose

Longstanding = in place for a long time

Now, we're going to circle back to the jealous owners and league officials who used to be former Jets who were all trying to go after the Pats in a grand conspiracy! Or how about, 31 other teams were doing it too!

You were the one trying to use the idea that they look for loopholes as proof of some wrongdoing.

Sorry, I don't give any weight to anything that the only commissioner of a professional sports league without a law degree says.

Those were even more dominant defenses. The only game that I can think where Tom really went off was the AFCCG against the Steelers when he had a 103 degree fever, although he had less than 200 yards passing which means the defense won the game for him per your explanation of Super Bowl 55. They must have lost the tapes for Indy the week before when they only scored two touchdowns.,

One thing I just noted: the freezing temperatures in the 2003 Divisional Playoff would have meant that the balls were really squishy. Odd that both offenses struggled (31 total points) given the incredible advantage everyone told us that underinflated balls confer.

I'll never forget that game. Bennett doesn't drop the ball right between his hands the Titans have a great shot at a game winning TD and ending the Patriots season way too soon.

No, the point I was making there was that Bill is not an idiot. He's not some guy who "accidentally" breaks the rules. He knows the rules back and forth. He was coach of Cleveland prior to coming to NE and was an assistant coach for decades. He knows what's going on in this league.

Sorry, I don't give any weight to anything that the only commissioner of a professional sports league without a law degree says.

Then why don't you take the word of Jeff Pash, who is the league's General Counsel? You know he has to have a law degree to be the league's top in-house attorney...they don't give those jobs out to just anyone.

Um, last time I checked, teams still need to score points to win games. And you arguing that the Pats won mostly on defense from 2001-2004 isn't going to sit well with SB1 and crawhammer, both of whom think Timmy single handedly won all the Pats SBs.

Here is what the rule said:

“No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game.”
Belichick interpreted that to mean that tapes cannot be used during that game. Additionally, the sideline is not the field (for those without a dictionary).

Here is what Ray Anderson said in the infamous memo (which misquoted the rule):

“Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game.”
Rule changes must be voted on by all teams. The league cannot unilaterally change them (like they did in Super Bowl 52), so this became a power struggle between the Pats and the new dimwit Commissioner.

Then why don't you take the word of Jeff Pash, who is the league's General Counsel? You know he has to have a law degree to be the league's top in-house attorney...they don't give those jobs out to just anyone.

You quoted Goodell. Pash is another POS, but at least we went to Harvard Law.

Tom's best seasons were after Spygate. Explain that.

Do you actually think Timmy will come around? Timmy is here to troll and get attention.
He doesn’t believe a word he’s saying. I posted receipts proving it.

Just triggered that Brady won a ring without Bill and Bill hasn’t exactly been successful without the GOAT. Lol

He gets a charge out of being a contrarian. He's just being a troll. Most of his takes are weak, and a lot of the same old chit.

From the NFL Constitution and Bylaws that were in effect at the time - these were already voted on by the owners.

NFL Constitution and Bylaws:

"Any use by any club at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which such club is a participant, of any communications or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, shall be prohibited, including without limitation videotape machines, telephone tapping, or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic devices that might aid a team during the playing of a game."

Pash was one of the guys involved in stomping of the tapes at Gillette. He later came out and said, when McDummy got caught videotaping in 2009, that Bill was the head of the spygate operation in NE, not Ernie Adams.

Tom's best seasons were after Spygate. Explain that.

Great, this says nothing about whether the Pats would have won SB 36, 38, and 39 if they hadn't violated the rules. The fact that Bill was doing it for 7 years is strongly suggestive as to its effectiveness. After all, Jimmy Johnson gave up right away when he found it couldn't help him.

He gets a charge out of being a contrarian. He's just being a troll. Most of his takes are weak, and a lot of the same old chit.

Yet, you followed me to this thread from the main board...

Actually, no. @Ian has it set up so the latest posts are highlighted across the top in a banner. So I just click to see what the hot topic is, and if there's any news of merit. Now, I do come back to see what inane chit you'll come up with, it's kinda like watching a train wreck.

It was really epic in January 2021 in the Bucs thread with the non-stop "Brady can't beat teams with a winning record!" followed by genius predictions of Brady's doom. Lol

The above is correct, pure and simple. Some people just like to argue. They also often take a very weak/unpopular stance because that gives them more to argue about.

There is no point in engaging such people, just block them (like I did).

And I was right about Brady not being able to beat good teams in 2021 and 2022. I'll take the W on that one. Actually I'll take two Ws, one for each season.

Back to Mahomes, please

That last bit was the part that was open to interpretation. The Pats had a different interpretation that tapes could not be made for use in that game. That was the issue.

You realize that his coaches blew that playoff game against the Rams, right?
