BGC 2023 OT/PTP Thread

@BaconGrundleCandy hey what's your take on this guy? Loves the way he moves and mauls at the POI good feet moment too for a Big guy. There is no way I see us not draft this guy look at his last name Jones.
Dawand Jones6-7, 3605.40Ohio State

Great Right Tackle prospect... If he's unable to stay at LEFT Tackle, however, then I have no interest in him whatsoever.

I like Wright and Jones for us. Low ceiling but NFL ready. Jones knows how to use his great length and has very hands. Plus grip strength and hand usage all around. Feint, snatch/trap, independent hands. All very good. Top heavy and tight lower half. Definitely has to lose or manage that weight. I like him a lot.
Coach cap: I love Jaelyn Duncan if we can Reach for Cole Strange anything is possible.
I like Duncan too but Jordan Morgan is another athlete who looks good mid-late middle.

I agree, jones is a pure right tackle. He and onwenu could do some serious damage in the running game. And out all our qb’s in the hospital in pass protection.

At some point, bb has to move cole “the” strange “pick” from guard to center. Andrews is running on fumes and breaks more often than a 1978 ford pinto! Now the kid from Louisiana that transferred to Florida is a monster, Torrence, I think!

We could trade back in the first round and end up with an offensive line of brown-Torrence-strange-onwenu-jones. Andrews is an update over ferentz as a back up center.

As in Trent Brown? At LEFT Tackle?? No, that can't Ever happen again... If he's on this team at all next season, it will be at Right Tackle, or at Swing Tackle at a Reduced salary... That's why I have ZERO interest in drafting Dawand Jones to play Right Tackle.

Did brown really suck in 2022, or did his play suffer from incompetence of the worst coaching staff in the history of pro football and playing alongside an undersized rookie?

He pretty clearly lost a step this season. He was getting beaten to the outside a lot. As a consequence was going a half beat early on the snap cadence and drawing a ton of false starts.

Did he really lose a step or were his splits not wide enough because he had a rookie on the side of him and offensive lineman cover inside lanes first?

Hahaha he clearly lost a step.

Can Dawand Jones play LT with his incredible wingspan? I guess the question to be determined is if his foot speed is sufficient.

Because Paris Johnson would be a perfect fit for us at LT. But I expect him to go before we pick.

Louis Riddick said Darnell Wright was hands down the best tackle at the Senior Bowl. I am not sure what other tackles were there competing.

Bergeron, Cody Mauch, Freeland, Wanya Morris off the top of my head...

Edit: Dawand Jones practiced early in the week but didn't continue and also didn't play in the game.

Thanks. So the top guys did not play. That makes sense.

So Darnell Wright is the best of the 2nd tier? I do not know, I am only repeating what Louis Riddick said - that Wright was obviously the best of the Tackles that attended the Senior Bowl. Is that good enough to trade down and take Wright? I think Wright played on the right side as a senior, and I have to wonder why that is?

You're right that Wright played Right Tackle this past season after having been their Left Tackle the season before... It does give one pause, because you want to see the progression go the other way...

Yes. Exactly. And no-one takes a RT at #14.

How about releasing Trent Brown to gain $12M in cap space to sign a FA CB #1, and then take Broderick Jones at #14 for LT, and Wright at #46 for RT? Amazing duo for 4 to 5 years.

Freeland in the second round is a must if he tests well!
Good Senior Bowl: Check.

Duncan's measurements during the Senior Bowl week: < 300lbs and < 34" arms... Gives me early-day-2 pause...

Alabama's Tyler Steen's arms are 33" on the dot with barely an 80" wingspan...Disappointing.

Syracuse's Matt Bergeron's arms are also < 34", but more importantly I also didn't feel he played particularly well at LT yesterday.

Upon further review, especially of the 2nd half, I amend my initial reactions to include that Bergeron didn't play as badly as I had first thought, though Freeland didn't play Nearly as well as I had first thought either...

Coach cap: no doubt we know Mount Brown can play like an Elite RT. That said earlier in year he was playing LT at a very good level: I think he suffered and got complacent from horrible Coaching of guys wearing too many hats. They are some really good Offensive Tackle Prospects in this Draft it would be well worth it to double dip.

As long as Trent Brown isn't our starting LT on Opening Day...

You take a RT at #14 if you've got a left-handed QB. Because that's his blind side and you want your most capable pass protector there.

What "number 1 corner" do you want to sign?

30 yr old James Bradberry?
33 yr old Patrick Peterson?
30 yr old Marcus Peters who has missed games due to injury each of the last 2 years?

Who is this #1 CB you are hot to trot for and why do you think the Patriots need to cut a BARGAIN starting tackle in Brown to sign the guy?

What makes you think that Wright will still be there at 46?
