Inside the most dysfunctional Pats season under BB

Yeah. It also feels like we don’t know what we really have on offense beyond a ****ty line and a great RB. I’m putting a lot of faith in BoB to talk about what we need to do to make over the offense in terms of scheme, plays and personnel.
Agree. BoB is a good offensive coach. I have no doubts about him being able to squeeze every drop of talent at his disposal. Hopefully we have a great FAcy, bring in some much needed talent and hit on #14 & a couple of other starters from the other picks. I want the team to succeed. Nobody likes to watch their team fail. If Bill manages to turn the team around this season, I'll be the 1st one here eating a large serving of crow.

Yea, I've never said BB should be fired this season. Never. That would be dumb since it obviously was never going to happen. I'm countering the belief by many here, that just consider this season a hiccup, and that Bill will just dust off the OC's chair and we're on our merry way to wonderland. This team has a lot of issues that need fixing. This is simply a philosophical discussion about how we should move forward to become contenders again. Imo, the sooner we move on from BB as HC/GM, the sooner we can tackle those challenges.

I find it amusing how many posters want to see Brady retire despite him continuing to play well but have no issues w/ having a 71 yo coach continue until he wishes despite his recent mediocre record.
But the rebuild was on track until this year's hiccup is what many are suggesting. Nobody is wrong because we won't know until the year plays out and it seems like some people are a bit more optimistic than others.

Why do people care if Brady retires or not? If he wants to play, he should find a team that will pay him (shouldn't be a problem), I just don't want him to sign with NE until he decides to retire so he can retire a Patriot.

i also think these next seasons are an audition for the Krafts about who follows Bill: BoB, Mayo, someone else from inside, someone brand new. So I think both Mayo and BoB will be very motivated to make the whole thing work better.

I still wish I could see the plan for special teams, though.

I couldn't agree more. Considering the fact that BoB and Mayo agreed to come/stay here I am thinking they were given verbal offers to succeed Bill depending on results . So there should be motivation on both sides to do well.

Hoping Mac comes extra motivated and Bourne becomes out leader on offense .

FA and draft are going to be really exciting .

Meyers vs Michael Thomas/Hopkins
Who will replace McCourty?
Is Jonathan Jones back or do we go for a better FA in Bradberry.

OK, I've changed my tune. Listening to Jules gives me hope. LFG Teapot!!!

Idk. In most of those cases the team had a solid base and just needed a key piece or so to get beyond the hump. Sometimes it worked (Revis, Gilly), other times it didn't (Moss, Cooks) but it certainly wasn't because of those guys. Unfortunately this team has a lot more needs than just an elite guy but you have to start somewhere.
Moss/Cooks got a perfect season and two Super Bowl visits.

No one's saying it isn't a big deal and I think I speak for the majority when I say we're not ok with it. We've been discussing it all year, it's time to look into the future. I make mistakes in life; I ponder over those mistakes, so I don't make them again but then I put them in the rear-view mirror and move forward with what I have learned.
What else is there to discuss right now though?

I'm sure talk will die down when free agency opens but until then I think talk will be this

To me this team is closer to a playoff team than what they were this year. And they almost made the playoffs despite the dysfunction.

They have allot of talent on offense that was basically destroyed due to poor coaching. Now that's not too say they don't need pieces like a #1 receiver. But I think you can make the playoffs and compete with this same squad if they just got normal average offensive coaching vs what they got last year

Maybe a Vikings season where we get to 11-6 or 12-5 but lose in WC/Divisional . The defense can get us 6 games. Special teams if they don't screw up add another 2 . Need offense to come to party for 4 games whilst playing average to above average in 8 games.

Defense got us 8 this season all by itself. Not even joking.

The Pats should have a much better record next year, with the defense continuing to be the strength of the team. Special teams contributed a couple of wins before they contributed to a couple of losses. Injuries were a big part of the story on special teams while the boneheaded plays, like running into the kicker, got the most attention. Clearly the punter was not right. Losing Cody Davis was a big loss, especially when Schooler was out vs Buffalo.

It'll be tough with the below opponents (playoff teams) which will also get better.

Patriots:
Home:
Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, Saints, Colts, Commanders

Away: Cowboys, Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Steelers, Bills

That's 9 games against playoff teams and 7 potential losses right there. We get Billy O as OC, Broncos get Payton as HC. Chargers get Moore as OC. Phins get Vic Fangio as DC. Steelers get 2nd year w/ Pickett who wasn't bad.
It's just getting tougher and tougher to win. We have got to get elite talent to compete! No more trying to make it work w/ avg players that need to be coached up.
There's a shift happening.

And a LT... and a RT... and a 3rd-Down RB... and a QB...

Pats have significantly more cap space than every single one of those teams. Nearly $50m more effective cap space than the Bills, for example, or $90m more than the cap-space-hell Saints. And we have better draft assets than most of them. Plus our upcoming positive coaching swing.

Sure but the Bills already have a lot of talent. Pats aren't an OC away from being at the Bills level, or KC or Bengals, etc. Saints aren't going anywhere. Just by replacing Lombardi at OC w/ Moore, Chargers got way better. They already had the talent. We need talent. How much talent can you buy w/ $32M? More importantly, will they even try?

I was responding to the notion that these cited teams are also going to be "better." I think the reality is most will be treading water at best. We have the best draft ammunition we've had in the last decade - lots of picks (too many in fact) and so the clear possibility of moving up if they decide to do that. So between the cap space, the draft picks and the coaching upgrade we have the potential for very significant improvement.

May still not be enough to get us to the very top level of course, but we can definitely move up one class.

I don’t see where you’re getting that. 8 picks, 1 more than standard. No extra picks in rds 1-3.

What makes you think they won't try to improve the team or are you thinking they won't do it the way you want?
