Good morning Cousins.
Might as well start the "season" right by implementing an idea that will ruffle feathers.

Started off my morning with a little OJ and a hot cup of coffee with a mocha chocolate sweetener. Then I was treated to a large coffer cake muffin heated just right so as not to dry out.

This is a bad year for college WR talent. To make that double bad is the Patriots do not Draft WR talent well at all. I think there is little doubt we lose Meyers. He will get next to $18mm-$20mm. Good for him . Bad for us. I might have an alternative. It's a bad year for FA WR talent too.

Secondly. The Pats are looking for a third down back at the bowl games......hmmm...More on that later.

We have a respectable amount of CAP space this year. Also perhaps 9 or 10 Draft picks.

The Saints are in CAP hell by negative $60mm or last in the League. The need a rebuild. We need an OT and a WR.

Imagine if the Saints would Trade Ryan Ramczyk (29 years old with 3 more contract years) who gave up only 3 sacks last year and 4 panalties, for a pick to reduce his Saints $9.6 CAP number and he immediately fills a whole at RT unless you want to throw a rookie (see Strange) in there. Now Conor McDermott should be resigned and has starts at LT in case Trent Brown does not have a better year. McDermott might not be the answer but he played respectfully this year. In just a few games he might have been our best OT?

Now back to the WR spot. We all know what Deebo can do. 27 year old Alvin Kamara is one of the best receivers in the NFL....receivers. He can also run a bit. He is a threat anytime the ball is in his hands.

Imagine if we sign Kamara into the role of slot receiver ala Deebo Samuel or McCaffery. Bill had the idea with Ty Montgomery. He was ok until hurt but he's not Kamara. This lowers the Saints $11mm in savings on Kamara. Mickey Loomis will have to figure the rest out.

It has been said their is no one on the Pats "O" you have to game plan for . Could Kamara be that guy? Can he line up in the slot and take a few carries from Stevenson now that Harris is gone? Montgomery has one more year left. There is your back up.

So the Saints cut 1/3rd off their CAP issues and get picks. We get a solid OT with years left on his contract and an electric player. We preserve his career by putting him in the slot mostly. Maybe a 3rd and a 4th pick for the pair. How about a 1st for the pair? ....Wouldja?

What to do about a #1 WR? Hopkins would be stellar. But at near $20mm it is a problem, The Cards are not in bad CAP shape but a Hopkins trade would help. I propose a lower pick and Jonnu Smith, who needs a change of scenery with his $10mm salary that can offset Hopkins some. The Cards can use TE/SLOT help.

My Goal here is to save us some high picks to use on other needs like CB and FS and surgically apply our available CAP space.

Thoughts or threats? This is for fun not to offend.

Hope you have all been well.

Annually or total salary? If annual, there's no way he gets that.

He's a fine player, but teams have found ways in the playoffs to slow him and Thomas down. Pats need WR's not running backs.

He will not come here with O'Brien as OC and I wouldn't want him anyways. He's going down the AJ Green path.

I have Kamara in a keeper pool so I’ve followed him for the last few years. He’s still young but he’s taken a lot of punishment and is slowing down. He also could be facing a suspension for the Vegas incident last year. I’m not touching him at his salary.

would anyone take a flier on the saints Michael Thomas? he reworked his deal so the saints take a lesser hit when he goes... so he will be available...

i will say up front that the guy has needed an emergency room on the sidelines over the past few seasons, but would you take him a one year prove-it deal? He's not getting the big bucks because of his injury history imo... could be an interesting prospective signing...

any interest or a hard pass?

If they go the free agent route, the Pats should sign OT’s Yosh Nijman from the Packers or maybe Oli Udoh from the Vikings.

Both players are looking for their first big contract, neither has played that much to pump up their value, both are plus athletes, are young, and both of their teams have a lot of money invested in the lines already and not a lot of cap space.

Otherwise the Pats should just draft one or even two.

Can we get the tackle and not Kamara and do it for less than a 2?

I'll take "things with zero chance of ever happening in this universe" for $500, Alex

Yep. I think the best approach to this off-season is to make an already good defense as good as they can, and upgrade at OL and WR. They aren’t going to be able to keep up with the high powered offenses so their best bet is a great defense and a really physical offense. It’s early for picks but if Brian Branch is still there at #14 then take him, fill OL and WR later.

If he ends up in NE, that could becomes a definite ...

He’s BAAAAACK! Offseason has officially started ladies and gents! Let’s go Toys!!!!

I've already seen a couple of mocks were we trade for Kamara for a 4th I think. I LIKE the idea of having a top notch 3rd down back in the fold, and he's a good RB besides who can also play in the slot. Very versatile player. BOB loves 3rd down RB's almost as much as likes TE's. Look for him to do something in that area next season/

FWIW, they still have Ty Montgomery under contract for next year. . . .

Cousin,
Imagine if we put him in the slot to take Meyers place?
He is Deebo like whereas you could RB him in only a few plays a game. or McCafferey.

He's only 27 but you prolong his career by sticking him at Flanker. He's had almost 1,000 receiving......... as a back in a year.

What a welcome home present for BOB?

Cousin, he's getting at least a 6 game suspension. I'm out.

Michael Thomas is a great receiver that has been MIA for the better half of three years now. The new reworked contract may possibly have him being cut after June 1st. Olave is on pace to be the new go-to receiver for the Saints. Apparently, a trade is out of the question because of his cap hit. Healthy, he could be #1 for at least a couple years. Just have to sign him as a free agent.

Kamara is a demon when the offense has more than just one offensive star. When the Saint's WR corps was decimated 2 seasons ago (and partially this past season), and not having a number 1 back like Mark Ingram used to be, Kamara has been less effective. But when the offense is healthy, man is he special. If he goes anywhere, I would love for it to be to the Patriots.

As for Ramczyk, I don't know. The Saints for years have always invested high draft picks on the offensive line. It seems to be a Micky Loomis binky. If it were not in the plans to draft Penning, I think the Saints would've tried to rework Armstead's deal. Ramczyk is a 3 time all-star and an anchor at right tackle. I don't see Micky moving him unless he has plans to get another in the draft. Drafting effective offensive linemen is one of the better abilities the Saints have.

Just my 2 cents. I'm no expert at this crap, but I watch every Saints game down here in New Orleans unless the Pats are on national TV.

in a sense all the better, since it SHOULD lower the price of acquiring him by a third (say a fifth with the return of a 6th or 7th round future pick from the Saints (24 or 25)

He will get a full TC before the suspension so when he comes back he WILL know enough to compete. He's an explosive, proven and only 27, who can help at MULTIPLE positions, and while the fact he'll likely be unavailable until mid October isn't ideal, but frankly I don't care. It's November and December and beyond, that I need THAT kind of player.

All that being said, I don't know much about the incident that will cause the suspension. If he's truly a BAD guy in the community or in the locker room, then I'm with you. But if this was just a one off incident and he takes responsibility and serves his punishment, then I'd be a buyer for him.

V, the team MISSED James White last year more than I and most of the rest of us knew,
