PATRIOTS NEWS BoB officially back

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
I get your point but wasn’t BoB the first one to introduce this concept of a Heavy 2 TE scheme to an offense!?
Belichick has talked about how a lot of those ideas go all the way back to his time with the Lions in the 70’s. They had two years of overlap between HoFer Charlie Sanders and future Pro Bowler David Hill, who combined for 10 of the team’s 20 receiving TDs in 1976 and …3 of 7… in 1977. It was a different era, to say the least.

Regarding the Kraft verbal quote that the Patriots were to hire O'Brien...

Only comment about O'Brien is past tense.

Reporter provides context to a two word answer "I know" that didn't even mention O'Brien.

I actually would bet money this is the rumor article that makes some think Kraft took all control from Belichick and directed the O'Brien hire:

100% rumor mongering - not credited to Kraft at all: "Per NFL Network's Mike Giardi, there is "one very influential voice in upper management" for the Patriots pushing O'Brien for the job."

The Herald ran a similar story Dec 9th. Guregian: What will Robert Kraft do to fix the Patriots?

Again all media supposition and not actual Kraft "Al Haig"-like statements stating that O'Brien was the next Patriots OC before interviewing began.

More unsubstantiated rumors disguised as reporting: A top NFL insider is now openly wondering about Bill Belichick's job security

Opinion piece with no actual quote: Change should come from Robert Kraft with or without Bill Belichick

Here's the "disappointed" quote, but no Bill O'Brien: Robert Kraft "Bothered" by Patriots Recent Playoff Failures - CLNS Media

Unattributed quote here but still no O'Brien.: Changes coming to Patriots after Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick have meeting

More "RUMINT": Alabama football: Bill O'Brien to Patriots rumors increase, NFL insiders say

Here's search#1: Robert Kraft comments on Bill O'brien
And Search #2: Robert Kraft, Bill O'brien, hire

The funniest part about this rumors and unattributed or inference as fact take, is that Kraft CAN'T make a definitive pronouncement like that as an owner before the interviews take place because it would bring NFL fines, etc for violation of the Rooney Rule!

Yes, Kraft did specifically state the he wanted BOB to coach Mac Jones in 2023. And, BOB added that he would like BOB to replace Belichick when he steps down. One does not need to suspend disbelief to wonder if Mac Jones went complaining to Kraft about Mat Patricia.

It was reported by a Boston sports writer and I posted the whole quote on this board starting a new thread. Ashley changed the title so I dont recall what that was to search for it, but that thread is somewhere in the board archives. IIRC, it was a tweet and that tweet was taken down hours after the Kraft quote spread like wildfire.

Kraft has been critical and openly vocal about the Pats drafts and absence from the post season. Never before has Kraft expressed his displeasure with the job that Belichick is doing. Kraft was quoted months ago stating BOB was his man for 2023 and who got hired?

So you still have no link to the article, is what you're saying.

It feels comfortable to get BoB in the OC role. He at least falls into the category of "guys who didn't crap the bed before" and not in the category of guys who remind you of a scene from "Deliverance."

I have only the tiniest discomfort with the idea of the "old boys' network" Bill relies on. He's had 3 years to rely on that post-Brady. Granted, last year was the true fortress year, where it was him, his son, and Patricia out-of-position.

I'm guardedly optimistic and I do think it gets us out of the present rut. I look forward to the rebuilding year, especially along the O-line. A "true no. 1 receiver" might not be in the cards, based on the "That guy or everything else" price issue. We can always cross our fingers :D

Happy offseason. This is what it's like to be a JETE fan. Let's hope we only feel their pain for a little while.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here...are you saying you're glad that BoB is not from the south?

Plus, BoB presided over some of the best offenses in the dynasty era. I wouldn't say that's a guy who managed not to fail.

Well closer than the last three times we played them. And that's with two KO returns for TD's.
Sure but I still wouldn't say we came close to beating the Bills.

Cinci was by score only in one game....but I don't you are implying we are close to being on the same level with them.

When were we close to beating the Bills?

Let's be real, Cinci went into nap-mode vs us.

At this point in no way are we at their level.
Exactly game was literally over @ half time then Cinci feel asleep Patricia's Offense can do that to you and another screen pass.

With apologies to MLK for using his profound words in such a trite moment but...

We fumbled at the Cinci goal line with less than a minute left, it was pretty close. Would have beat the Bills if not for the bad special teams plays and Josh Allen bombs

The game on jan 8 was the patriots to lose and they lost it.

Steven's doesn't fumble against the Bengals, they win. The Bengals went to sleep? A win would be a win.

Doesn't mean we are on their level.

There is no solace to be taken.

Thus is such bs, everybody knows that football is 60 minutes.

Because it never happened

It did happen, but the spinmeisters always have an explanation dreamed up.

Kraft expounded on these bolded comments that he wanted BOB to coach Jones in 2023 and for BOB to replace BB in the near future. The bottom line is that Kraft regrets not keeping Brady over BB. Kraft has openly trashed Belichick all in print.

That interview also saw Kraft praise Mac Jones and said this 2022 season was huge for him.

“These young quarterbacks, the good ones, in the second year have usually grown a great deal. I’m a big fan of Mac Jones. You see how hard he works. He wants everything to go right. He puts the time and energy, and his personality as a team guy,” Kraft said. “So we have a chance. Without a good coach and a good quarterback, no matter how good the other players are, I don’t think you can win consistently. Hopefully, I believe we have both -- an outstanding coach and a good young prospect at quarterback.”
