The future of Matt Patricia

You did admit it. Good for you owning it, but you went pretty hard on defending Bill's decision. You've gotta admit that reading back your own posts, its pretty funny.

Yeah, it @Kontradiction is above that. He finds the petty and immature. Well, until he does it and then it is funny. I will admit it is funny if he admits he is a hypocrite. Funny, I admit when I am wrong. I am thinking he isn’t man enough to do it.

Seriously, just last offseason he has brought up a thread I started in like 2005 including a link to it just to call me out for doing something similar now.

Someone is a little upset. I just wanted to see you call BB “stupid overnight,” @Rob0729.

Are you talking about “Let’s hear it for the homers!” the week before we lost to the Jets in the 2010 Divisional? I can probably find that thread. I often admit when I’m wrong. I took a big time L in giving up on our last Super Bowl-winning squad. There’s a few people here who can attest to that since I made a thread telling the board to roast me for it.

Patricia took over a team that was 9-7 two years in a row and he was supposed to get them over the hump. Instead he drove the franchise into the ground and took the 7th ranked offense and turned it into the 25th his first year. He even managed to make their defense worse by the time he left when the Lions were dead last.

Patricia also made that “roster of losers” worse. He traded away Quandre Diggs and Darius Slay. Diggs, who signed an extension that offseason, Matt traded away for peanuts to Seattle and now Diggs is a pro bowler. He also traded another pro bowler and now the best corner on one of the league’s best defenses in Darius Slay. Add that to the fact that the minute his QB got away from him to a real franchise he won a ring and the fact that the Lions finished 2021 with $67 million in dead cap from all the bums he overpaid.

Patricia didn’t get some raw deal in Detroit. He created all the issues that brought him down. Then somehow that wasn’t even rock bottom. Rock bottom was coming back here to get into pissing contests with players we need and doing a horrendous job calling plays. Yes, Bill set him up to fail, but he didn’t need to take a job we all knew he couldn’t do.
Calm down man... No need to get angry... Relax, it's just off-season conversation

You make them sound like they were ripe for success under that blank piece of paper they had at HC before him... he started off in a poor spot, and never had the support of the players or media... That's not defending him... That's relating what happened... The article offers a perspective on his first days in Detroit, and how it started poorly... Which is on matt

As for trading "good" players, it happens all the time, by almost every team at some point... Happened this season in Detroit no less... Yet you act like this never happens ... Not sure why...but whatever...

I'm not saying he did a good job. I am saying he started off in a bad way. If you think he should be vilified for making players run after screw ups in practice, which is what happened, then I don't know what to say to you. You obviously have an anti-patricia slant, which is fine... I'm not trying to nor am i going to die on a hill defending him and his failure in Detroit...

Yes, I am pointing out how pathetic it was for you to dig out an over decade older thread to throw in my face. It is even more pathetic that you know the name of the thread and the circumstances of the thread.

Wow! I am really embarrassed for you. It is so cool in 2022 to dig up a thread from 2010 to throw in another poster’s face. Your parents must stay up at night wondering where they went wrong.

Apparently I was just being a “hater”.
Congrats on knowing more about evaluating coaches than BILL BELICHICK.

My response would be what are your qualifications to evaluate the fit of the coaches? It’s not madden, they are each diverse humans who have worked with belichick for many years. You seem to be telling me you are a better judge of their capabilities than he is, and therefore make the jump to since he didn’t do what you would he is losing it. Do you not see the logical fallacy there?

My parents go to bed early. How embarrassing that must be for you. You just can’t stop being wrong.

For anyone wondering why I would necro that thread, just scroll down.

You can’t make me upset. I am embarrassed for you. Can you dig up my thread from 2006 where I said that I think Chad Jackson could be a special receiver. That would be awesome.

Hey maybe you can go on the old AOL chat board and dig up my thread from 1991 when I said that **** McPherson is going to be a good coach. That would make you so cool.

You’re right. I’m wrong. Quoting me multiple times in a row whilst trying (badly) to hurl insults at me makes me think you’re happy. How stupid of me.

You won’t be, and haven’t been, the only poster I’ll pick on from a thread that was last posted on in December. There’s a point here. Instead of assuming the man is as infallible as a Papal Bull, and that you’re ready to swallow his load at a moment’s notice and ask if he’s been eating pineapple all week, how about we assume BB is human? That would be pretty neat. Then we can begin assuming he’ll make some mistakes every season, moving forward, just like he’s made some mistakes in every season he’s been here. Then, with clear heads, we can begin questioning whether a guy like Patricia is fit for the job in August of 2022, for example. That sounds like a good path.

What was the point of digging up a post in 2010 in 2022?

If you want, I can see if any of my grade school friends still have a transcript of our discussion in the cafeteria in elementary where I said Tony Eason would be the best QB of the 1983 draft so you can post it here.

Your first mistake is thinking there is a point to everything I do when I post here.

Knowledgeable trusted coaches are few and far between and you dont kick them to curb just because they were dealt a losing hand.

Whats so surprising is that so many people here believe that Patricia had complete autonomy over offensive decisions. BB would never allow it and has his finger on every aspect of the Pats team. BB delegates authority, but he did not turn Patricia loose as if he was Charlie Weis.

Its going to comical to see BOB go ballistic after Jones does not execute the game plan. Crying to Kraft that BOB was mean to me wont fly.

Dieing on the "matt Patricia was actually pretty good it was all Mac Jones" hill is an interesting one to die on

Yet, there's still blind homers that dismiss this as no big deal: he tried and it didn't work out. Oh well.

I have noticed a few IBWTers voicing their discontent or disappointment w/ Bill. That decision weakened him w/ the fans and the Krafts. This announced open process to find an OC is a sign of Bill taking a hit. I can't wait to see how the Mayo-SB relationship and titles work out.

Bill could've avoided this by just hiring a real OC last year...

It's not like hiring an OC is some out of the box thing teams do when you lose an OC. But Bill is smarter than everyone! I'll just have a DC learn on the fly and it will be fine!

You will soon find out that its not the guy standing on the sideline throwing the ball.

Why was Mac pretty good with McDaniels? If it's all Mac Jones last year should've been just as bad. Please explain

I'm also sure guys running routes next to each other and running into each other was also Mac Jones fault

Socs in Saugus is probably looking for a seasonal manager

It would be best to cut ties with him completely. He's bad news.

It all started with Malcolm Butler.
Then Hightower saying the defense is easier to understand since his departure.
Then Detroit players wanted him gone the minute he entered the locker room.
Now Bourne magically disappears with him as the play caller and multiple players are questioning him.
Everything you stated was definitely factual! People forget Flores had alot to do with the defense as well.. During Patricia's time here.. he was here just as long as Patricia was.

Didn't Denver request permission to interview him? They guy is socially awkward.. you will never sustain success being like that in the NFL

You didn't know Patricia could not do the job as OC. You, me and others might have had strong reservations that unfortunately were proven correct, but once he took the job and installed the system in training camp there was no turning back, it had to play itself out. As I suggested in post #90, Patricia might've been a last-ditch fallback option which could explain BB's massive misfire in lieu of just losing his mind. It's the only possibility that makes sense.

Sure, Patricia could have declined the position as being unqualified -- perhaps he should have. Or maybe he was arrogant enough to think he could successfully wing it once BB turned to him. The bottom line is we only can guess at the circumstances leading to this bewildering assignment that led to a wasted season. Thank goodness it's over.
If you mean I didn't know in the sense that I hadn't seen him fail at it, then yes, I didn't know. But the same way I know that winter will be cold and summer will be hot and the sun will rise in the morning I knew that Patricia as OC wasn't going to go well. Outside of letting Brady walk this is the most massive blunder of Bill's career. He probably could have had O'Brien last year but didn't want to upset his friend Nick Saban which flies in the face of Bill's usual "I'll do what's in the best interest of the team" and falls more in line with his true motive of doing what's best for Bill. It was an asinine experiment and we lost a year of development with our rookie QB and now we get to start all over again with one less year on Mac's rookie deal and likely a bad taste in his mouth from what he experience last year.
