How much do you wanna bet dumping Patricia was a condition for BOB to come here?
What's infuriating is that we (as fans!) unanimously knew how horrible of an idea that was. This thread is an absolute gold mine…
PFT: Matt Patricia to call plays on offense?

You think Rob is going to call BB “stupid” now, given his new opinions on Patricia after the season? What's infuriating is that we (as fans!) unanimously knew how horrible of an idea that was.
Yet, BB thought it would work. What does that say?
And, Kraft is so afraid to mettle and annoy the sacred cow, he didn't veto or put up a stronger fight to not waste another season of his fleeting last years. Horrible!!
Seriously, does any rational person think Belichick would hand over play calling duties to someone who didn't have intimate knowledge how the offense works and at least was capable of calling plays. I mean Belichick didn't become stupid overnight.
We can never know how good Patricia is at calling offensive plays until he makes the calls, but I have zero doubt that he knows the offense and capable of calling plays.
Just because pencil boy is a coach and was a DC, doesn't mean he is qualified to be a OC. I get it, as a DC, he knew how to keep offenses on the field, so Bill thought it would be a great fit. It was a disaster and I'm glad they they are pulling the plug. What's infuriating is that we (as fans!) unanimously knew how horrible of an idea that was.

Patricia deserves blame. I’ve mentioned it. I also think Rham - a good player - deserves blame for a crucial fumble near the goal line. Are you saying that the players are so dependent on a good OC that they were unable to make plays in the redzone because of MP ? I tend to think the blame is both on the coaching and - even more - on the players.Farn, as the OC and the OL coach....who do you think was responsible for the poor OL play and poor everything else play? With poor play design, everyone looks like junk.

In all fairness, Robo owned his mistake in that thread and admitted he was wrong. Andy, on the other hand, not so much. He'll never admit being wrong. You think Rob is going to call BB “stupid” now, given his new opinions on Patricia after the season?
Word is Bill, Fat Matt and their gf/wife are real close and the 4-some hang out together to swap stories.
Patricia took over a team that was 9-7 two years in a row and he was supposed to get them over the hump. Instead he drove the franchise into the ground and took the 7th ranked offense and turned it into the 25th his first year. He even managed to make their defense worse by the time he left when the Lions were dead last.He didn't do himself any favors at the onset... There was a big kerfluffle about him making players run after screw ups that went sideways up some vets bunghole... They complained to their buddies in the media, who backed them and went after him in the press... Not saying Matt was a good coach there, but he lost the team & the locker room before the lions played game one... Every mistake was magnified and ripped in the press... He lost a war he didn't even know he was fighting... The lions roster back then was filled with a bunch of losers...
Matt Patricia is Making Lions Players Run and the Detroit Media Won't Stand for It
The leader in the clubhouse for my favorite controversy of the NFL offseason has got to be the Detroit media ripping Matt Patricia for the unpardonable sin of … I’ll pause here a moment to give you ti...www.barstoolsports.com
I'm convinced, maybe its best we move on from this dude. Another thing to consider is Mac's relationship w/ Patricia. Maybe its better to not have them in the same building.Patricia took over a team that was 9-7 two years in a row and he was supposed to get them over the hump. Instead he drove the franchise into the ground and took the 7th ranked offense and turned it into the 25th his first year. He even managed to make their defense worse by the time he left when the Lions were dead last.
Patricia also made that “roster of losers” worse. He traded away Quandre Diggs and Darius Slay. Diggs who signed an extension that offseason he traded away for peanuts to Seattle and now Diggs is a pro bowler. He also traded another pro bowler and now the best corner on one of the league’s best defenses in Darius Slay. Add that to the fact that the minute his QB got away from him to a real franchise he won a ring and the fact that the Lions finished 2021 with $67 million in dead cap from all the bums he overpaid.
Patricia didn’t get some raw deal in Detroit. He created all the issues that brought him down. Then somehow that wasn’t even rock bottom. Rock bottom was coming back here to get into pissing contests with players we need and doing a horrendous job calling plays. Yes, Bill set him up to fail, but he didn’t need to take a job we all knew he couldn’t do.

Apparently I was just being a “hater”.To say Patricia doesn't know much about the offense is bogus. The guy has been in the Patriots system other than the three years he was the Lions' head coach since 2003. He started on offensive side in his career with the Pats and was an offensive assistant at Syracuse. The guy has been here for nearly 20 years and knows little about the Patriots' offense? Do you really think Belichick would hand over the offensive play calling if he didn't know the offense. Arguably the greatest coach of all time going to hand over the offense to someone and just tell him to wing it?
It is obvious that Belichick has confidence in Patricia that he has intimate knowledge with the offense or he wouldn't be handing over the reigns of the offense to him.
I know Belichiick haters want to portray the guy as a mediocre head coach who just got lucky to have Brady and even a head coach like **** MacPherson would have had six rings if he had a QB like Brady. But that is just BS. Belichick knows what he is doing even if you or don't agree with it. Patricia may not end up being a good signal caller, but there is zero doubt he knows the offense intimately or he wouldn't even be given a chance.
And Belichick has plenty of job security. He would need several years of a losing record to be fired. And Belichick has a long history of doing things that other head coaches are afraid to do and being an innovator because of it.
All the awkward forced hugs in the world can’t save that relationship. I don’t think Mac respected Patricia as a coach and for good reason. This season needs to be completely dedicated to finding out if Mac is the guy and I really don’t want Patricia lingering around.I'm convinced, maybe it’s best we move on from this dude. Another thing to consider is Mac's relationship w/ Patricia. Maybe it’s better to not have them in the same building.

You did admit it. Good for you owning it, but you went pretty hard on defending Bill's decision. You've gotta admit that reading back your own posts, its pretty funny.Ummm! I said that what Belichick did to this team this year was a fireable offense and the only reason he has a job right now is because he is Bill Belichick. Any other head coach would have been fired.
Before you play the game of digging up posts from before the season to try to embarrass other posters, you should do a little research to see if that poster admitted they were wrong. See you tried to make me look bad, but all you did was make an arse of yourself with this petty move. Congrats!
