Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

A little OT but the Phins fired DC Josh Boyer. Seems to me a bad mistake. For what they were, I thought that D played well the last 2 years.

Is his old gig at the Colorado School of Mines still available?

It's not a massive amount of money. I think you've been fooled. Underperforming??? Mills and Bourne are not underperforming their contracts. Agholor is gone, but if you think $10m is going to buy you anything more than 50 receptions, you're woefully out of sync with the market. Bourne makes half of that.
You are acting like that money was spent today. We spent the most money ever that year when contracts were very constrained due to lower revenue from Covid. Cap went down like $20MM when it had always gone up every other year.

It was a massive opportunity, with teams much more constrained, that we did not capitalize on at all.

It was the amount of guaranteed money given to the '21 free agents that was the mistake. It was a record amount. A first for the Pats. Pioli talked about it. Kraft said he had never signed so many checks in his entire time as owner. The returns are atrocious.

This guy is happy though.

Plus we spent that much money when the cap went down and most teams were much more constrained.

We did nothing with that opportunity and now people are assigning today's money against contracts from 2020 and trying to talk themselves into "look they are so cheap compared to now"

I think, now that BOB has actually interviewed for the Pats OC job, we got a lot of questions answered. Most importantly that he WANTS the job. That was the BIG question everyone needed to get answered. Next we will wait and see IF he interviews elsewhere, like the Jets, Chargers, or any of the 7 other jobs currently open. If we don't hear about other interviews over the coming week, I would be comfortable thinking the deal is done.

I think all the interviews with Klemm, McCardell, and Jefferson were more looking for position coaches they can add to their offensive staff and see if any of them knocked their socks off.. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two added to this staff.

IMHO this team would become instantly better with Matt becoming Ernie Adams, and JJudge going back to ST's Each would be far better contributors at those positions.

I have always thought that this so called "experiment" was a holding action while BOB fulfilled his contract. They took a shot and it didn't work out. Bill will take a massive hit from the media and fans, but every season in order to consistently win you have to take a few chances as far as you staff goes, or on personnel. Sometimes they don't work out, and this one didn't and you MOVE ON.

This is the part I absolutely agree with. I think BB didn't want to screw up his buddy Nick Saban and maybe BOB wasn't actually available.
I think this is all a "wink/wink" deal.

I also think this was a BS setup putting in Patricia and they pi$$ed away a year of Mac's rookie contract, not to mention potentially alienating your starting QB.

I still believe in Mac. I'm a fanboy until he proves he ain't the guy. Other GM's still think this kid can play (according to Phil Perry). He maybe could have handled it better, but the more I think about it...I don't have a problem with a competitor getting frustrated with a coach that can't get the plays in on time ON THE REG. That has the opposing defense calling out your plays. That has an offensive line either getting you laid out, or committing an offsides or illegal formation, or holding on pretty much every ****ing drive. What a clown show.

You want to incorporate a new system, you better have the guns to pull it off. That includes a credible offensive line and some receivers that can actually get some separation. When Jakobi Meyers is your primary receiver, you're not scaring anyone. It took until the last couple games of the season to finally wake up to the fact they have a burner receiver that might actually take the top off the defense, whether or not he can catch a ball.

Don’t know how true it is because Rick Stroud reported down in Tampa that if the Jags were to hired Leftwich as a HC last year BOB would have been the OC in Tampa.

I think that the hypothesis is true that Bill didn’t want to hire coaches from Saban during their contract but in doing we were a « jags being the jags » away of being really screwed.

At this point BOB is a done deal, he doesn’t seemed to be linked to any other OC job that are open. I would be stunned if BOB is not announced before the weekend

I'm hoping to see mulitple hires out of this group. Obrien for OC and Mccardell or Jefferson to coach WR's.

What is wrong with our WR Coach Troy?? Difficult to assess how well our coaches are doing as the whole OC situation had completely crapped the bed.. Were the TE deficiencies due to coaching or a crappy Offensive scheme??

It has been pointed out by numerous media people most notably by Evan Lazar that the WR technic was poor this year. Too much time getting into routes. The precision of the routes were not good. That’s on Troy Brown

even under McD we had Tight End and WR issues so no it is not due to scheme, it is related to coaching issues at the WR and TE coach position

Me too. But if you‘re Jefferson or McCardell why are you leaving your WR coach gig to work in NE? It’s a lateral move, the OC probably didn’t choose you and I’d be shocked if Bill offered enough of a raise to make a lateral move worthwhile.

The wrs were a big part of the offensive dysfunction. Very simple things like hot reads and everything lagaffe mentioned above. Not excusing Mac completely, but there were many examples where he had no chance to make a play thanks to what the wrs were doing or not doing.

Good question. Bb may be throwing on additional roles for them ie passing game specialist or whatever its called. I dont know if bb sees them as being ready for oc right now but id lean towards no (pure speculation). Possible understudies to bob since he will be most likely be oc for just 2 years if he is given the role before becoming hc somewhere

I would also like to have a WR coach not named Troy Brown

Jefferson is in AZ, so may try to get a new job before they get a new HC to replace Kingsbury and that new coach wants to bring in his own guys. That’s relatively common practice, but the Cardinals could prevent him from leaving if they wished to.

McCardell doesn’t really have reason or incentive to leave that I can see.

Klemm would jump from college to NFL so that one’s easy (just including him on the list for completeness, I realize you didn’t mention him).

Anyone think that BB and BOB have discussed the Klemm/Jefferson/McCardell troika as possible position coaches under OC BOB?
