You are acting like that money was spent today. We spent the most money ever that year when contracts were very constrained due to lower revenue from Covid. Cap went down like $20MM when it had always gone up every other year.

It was a massive opportunity, with teams much more constrained, that we did not capitalize on at all.
Everyone knew the cap was going to go up massively. It wasn't a mystery. But I'm not even sure what the argument is here.

We're comparing what FAs got 2021 to 2022. Not 2023. Who knows what's going to happen this year (or "today" as you put it). I expect even bigger jumps.

Would like to hear an announcement today. Don’t sit on this and let the coaches you want go elsewhere because of more money or other opportunities are now available. Pull the trigger now!

I thought Bill O’Brein is Interviewing with Tampa.
Was that a rumor?
The article I had seen linking BOB to Tampa was that he was interviewing for the Patriots but could he be a fit for TB and the Bucs. I don’t even think TB is staying in Tampa So that article is just click bait
You may have seen something different

If BOB and the Pats have a wink wink deal then I believe we will see an announcement soon. We need to fil other positions in the Offense coaching staff. I am sure BOB is going to want some input on those hires.
The East West Shrine game that our coaches will be attending is Feb.2. Need to get some coaches that can scout some players that will fit the system BOB has in mind
Edit: The longer this plays out is not good news. But looking at the timeline and candidates and interview order it just comes across as formality. Caley goes 1st because he is in house and a respect factor. Then Bob gets sandwiched between Rooney rule candidates to make it look like a fair process

Anyone think that BB and BOB have discussed the Klemm/Jefferson/McCardell troika as possible position coaches under OC BOB?
I think Klemm can easily be pryed away from Oregon as a positional coach (OLINE). Truthfully I think that is why he was interviewed. The other two would need to bet a promotion to be pryed away.

Belichick: Sounds like you have landed — congrats!!
Flores: Did you hear something I didn’t?
Belichick: Patriots!?!?!?!
Flores: Coach, are you talking to Brian Flores or Bill O'Brian? Just making sure.
Belichick: Sorry — I ****ed this up. I double-checked and misread the text. I think we are naming O'Brian. Sorry about that. BB
Flores: Thanks Bill

Klemm would jump from college to NFL
Not sure if that's the case. He was the Steelers OL coach last year and left with 2 games to go because he got hired as Oregon's asst. HC and OL coach

Could have been the atmosphere. But wants to get back to the NFL. If your in the coaching ranks then being around BB only makes you more valuable.

They’re interviewing Jefferson today, so there most likely won’t be any leaks or announcements before that interview concludes.

Too late. Bill sent a text yesterday.

I think, now that BOB has actually interviewed for the Pats OC job, we got a lot of questions answered. Most importantly that he WANTS the job. That was the BIG question everyone needed to get answered. Next we will wait and see IF he interviews elsewhere, like the Jets, Chargers, or any of the 7 other jobs currently open. If we don't hear about other interviews over the coming week, I would be comfortable thinking the deal is done.

I think all the interviews with Klemm, McCardell, and Jefferson were more looking for position coaches they can add to their offensive staff and see if any of them knocked their socks off.. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two added to this staff.

IMHO this team would become instantly better with Matt becoming Ernie Adams, and JJudge going back to ST's Each would be far better contributors at those positions.

I have always thought that this so called "experiment" was a holding action while BOB fulfilled his contract. They took a shot and it didn't work out. Bill will take a massive hit from the media and fans, but every season in order to consistently win you have to take a few chances as far as you staff goes, or on personnel. Sometimes they don't work out, and this one didn't and you MOVE ON.
who really wants to have a job they used to have after they lost a job they wanted? Oh, great, I have the job I left years ago. Eyes will be on the next job. I would so much rather have someone who was on the way up, not the way down!

Can't rule that out. I mean if there was a OL coach out there that would have an idea of how Bill wants the OL coached it would be him. He played here for 5 years under Scarnecchia

Dan Quinn is killing it in cowboys .. if quinn lands HC interviews , then McCarthy could get fired to make way for Quinn. So let's not look down upon folks who have been demoted once. Bill has also been demoted once.

Very fair point. Maybe another way to say it is that I feel like we're becoming a homeless shelter for ex-Pats. We're stuck in the past instead of looking to the future. Continuity made sense when we had the GOAT Brady. But that era is over!

even under McD we had Tight End and WR issues so no it is not due to scheme, it is related to coaching issues at the WR and TE coach position
From my big comfy couch thought Gronk & Develin were pretty good.. the Pats have a history of not having premier WR's on their teams, remember the days of the smurfs?? Six SB's later I might deduce they were pretty good...

We just never had any explosive players at WR. We had the greatest TE to ever play the game (Gronk) I'm not sure how we had "issues" there though? The Gronk/Hernandez years were unlike anything I've seen on a football field when they were both rolling.

Pats/BB preferred smart quick receivers like Welker/Edelman/Brown/Amendola to big play threats (Randy Moss exception here). They were able to get away with this because they had a QB that was surgical with his decision making and accuracy.

The Pats no longer have the QB to run that same type of offense, unfortunately. They have a QB that can (I think) distribute the ball and get it into the hands of playmakers. The 49ers do a really good job of this with Deebo/McCaffrey. So, we need playmakers on the offense … not sure anyone on the roster really qualifies.

That's an interesting take. But think about this . what Bill needs right now is proven stable EXPIERENCED guy,who knows the langue and offense . A plug and play guy for the next few years. Let the NEXT HC bring in "the latest cool thing ".

Right, I can see that... play out the string with his current system. Still, doesn't seem like that sets us up for long-term success. It seemed to me that throughout his tenure, Bill always played the long game.
