Damar Hamlin Updates

Great to hear Damar is talking without a breathing tube. Truly an amazing job by the on field and hospital medical staff. Keep fighting Damar!

He probably will want to suit up on Sunday. Doctors will probably prevent that. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see him walking on the field in street clothes.

I would have thought that he'd have been IRed.

EDIT: The Bills IRed Hamlin yesterday. His season is done.

Posting a thread here for us to keep track of how he's doing.
When my buddy told me what happened on the way in to work Tuesday morning, I couldn't believe it.

I thought he was kidding.

"What? You're making this up, right? They actually sent everybody home?"

I was 15 when I saw Darryl paralyzed for life live on TV - it was after midnight here. By that cheap shot artist in the very same stupid stadium where our title was stolen and given to them 20 months earlier. Don't ever think I'm ever forgetting The F*cked Yule.

It was a preseason game. After the long, long time it took to take Darryl off on a stretcher, they finished the game.

It was more than 72 hours before they started to get some positive signs he would survive. In addition to everything he got pneumonia, which is not uncommon in such traumatic injuries.

We all (except Chuck Sullivan) obviously loved him and cared about him and were worried about him and praying for him.

But once he's in the care of the medical people it's over and you keep playing. This is life. Yes, football is rough. Life is rough. Should we have just let the Japanese and Germans conquer us? Or the British?

No, I don't think football players are technically essential workers. But we all, each one of us, must take responsibility for ourselves and those we are responsible for.

"Whaaaaa whaaaaa we can't keep playing the game, we love our brother!!!!!! Whaaaaa whaaaaa!!!!!"

Life sucks sometimes. You want to live it, or do you want to check out? The NFL of course is now rewarding the Bills.

Like they rewarded the Frauders 46 years ago?

I wouldn't be super surprised if he's released tomorrow and is in Orchard Park tomorrow physically. He'll definitely have a video message on the jumbotron.

I'd like for us to kick their asses tomorrow; but I'm afraid Matty P will have to miss the flight, and probably Mac too.

I'm not kidding.

I'm curious whether Hamlin plans on playing again.

Depends on what if any permanent heart muscle damage occurred and if there was/is some previously unknown genetic etc. cause. Bet nobody knows unless there was substantive heart muscle damage.

He literally died less than a week ago. He won't be in Orchard Park tomorrow.

The risk of a similar hit is probably too great and the psychological effect has to be devastating.

Christian Erriksen from the Denmark national team had a cardiac arrest like Hamlin j
in the Euro 2020. He was out of soccer for a while but came back and now is playing for Manchester United at a high level. They had to put a ICD on him to monitor his heart rate though. But soccer is way different than football

I believe that having an ICD would make Hamlin ineligible to play. Too much liability.

Let's wait and see what is determined to be the cause of Hamlin's cardiac arrest.

Seriously dude?
100%

No, I don't think upsetting and traumatizing people unnecessarily is good; and no I'm not projecting the bad things we went through on today.

I simply mean there are some good and mature attitudes that should be maintained - or resurrected - from the older generation.

Whether the guy lives or does, are the Bills going to feel any different about what happened a week or more later than they did that night?

You can't stop the world simply because you're moaning and crying over something bad that just happened. You can put sports in perspective but if you're going to do this you might as well end sports. What happened could happen to any athlete or anyone who stumbles into a traffic signal pole.

Chuck Sullivan was clearly an *******. But what happened Monday was not 9/11.

Different from what happened with Tedy, but no less dangerous. Bruschi was obviously assured he had no more risk of a recurrence playing than he would just getting out of bed.
