Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I mean, you do have to run eventually. Sometimes. It’s not always possible for Brady to pull a Super Bowl 49 where he single handily beat the best defense in over a decade with just his arm. The Pats rushed for only 57 yards that game.

also beat the Ravens that year with the Pats RBs only rushing 7 times for 14 yards (they had 13 total rushes, but Brady had 6 of those)

Snap counts are out for Bucs-Panthers — on offense, Cade Otton had more snaps than any receiver, and Rachaad White edged Leonard Fournette 39-36. Small role again for Julio Jones.

Defensive snap counts for Bucs-Panthers show OLB Anthony Nelson played every snap for third straight game. Still had enough left for huge strip sack in fourth quarter.

Chris Godwin needs only 32 yards vs. Falcons to reach 1,000 for the season. He and Evans would both be over 1,000 for the third time in four years -- Bucs did that just once in franchise's first 43 seasons (Evans and Vincent Jackson in 2014).

This is a good point -- clinching Sunday means the Bucs are in the playoffs three years in a row. That's happened only one other time in franchise history -- four straight from 1999-2002.

Godwin has 98 catches with one game left, matching the career high he set last season. Bucs' team record for receptions is Keyshawn Johnson getting 106 in 2001. Not sure he'll play enough to get eight catches Sunday, but he can be second Bucs player ever to get 100 in a season.

Wild to think that Tom Brady never led the NFL in completions in any of his first 21 seasons, but will now do so for a second year in a row at ages 44 and 45. Led in attempts just once in first 21 years (2017), now does it twice in a row as well.

After a slow start, Brady is now at 24 touchdowns against nine interceptions -- he's basically matched his final year in New England, when he had 24 and 8. Nowhere near his TD totals of 40 and 43 last two years, but not the regression it looked to be two months ago.

Definitely a change in Tom Brady midyear, making more plays and more mistakes at same time:

1st nine games: 10 TD passes, 1 INT
Last seven games: 14 TD passes, 8 INTs

Over last seven games, only Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes have more TD passes than Brady has.

Makes sense if you think about it. The first 9 games showed that the dinking and dunking in order to avoid the sacks and turnovers wasn't translating to wins (4-5, including losses to the 1-1 Packers, 1-4 Steelers and 1-5 Panthers, who were all playing like **** at the time).

Todd Bowles reiterates he intends to play his healthy players Sunday, even though Bucs can’t change their playoff seeding win or lose vs. Falcons. Didn’t say how long they’ll play.

On question of Tom Brady and whether he plays in a meaningless final game: He's never taken that game off. Started and left early at least three times:

2005: Left after three series: 3-8, 37 yards
2009: Left midway through 2nd quarter
2014: Left after first half: 8-16, 80 yards

Asked if C Ryan Jensen's could play Sunday- Todd Bowles: "Not at this time, we'll see how the week goes." Bowles said the pro bowler is working every day, but doesn't have more of an update on his availability to return.

@venecol

Brady in the 4th quarter yesterday:

12-14 for 166, 3 TDs (1 rushing), 158.3 passer rating, sacked once

Runs during that stretch (excluding Brady runs):
Fournette for 1 yard
White for 2 yards
Fournette for no gain

F*CK THE RUN GAME
You can't do that consistently from the get go. You have to be able to somewhat control the TOP. There's more things involved than, as a fan, wanting to see Brady fling the ball 65 times.

What a magnificant game yesterday by Brady and Evans. If this team can find a way to keep clicking then they will be dangerous in the post-season. They have certainly showed the grit to comeback a lot which is a great trait to have heading into the post-season.

Statistically that’s untrue. Again. Bucs are a historically poor rushing team this season. Yet when they use play action, they’re completion percentage, yards per attempt, TDs are way way over every other pass play. It’s NOT about run production for play action to work.

So Round one appears to be Bucs/Cowboys. That is a good match up I think for the Bucs. They beat Dallas earlier in the season and Dallas almost always finds a way to choke too.

I don't take Orlovsky seriously since he worships Rodgers for squaking into the playoffs, yet criticize Tom doing the same thing.

This particular tweet is spot on though

Yeah it’s been demonstrably proven for years that you don’t need a good running game for good PA. It’s just a myth because regardless of how lousy the running game is the defense WILL bite all the same because that’s the point, they’re instinctively reacting to keep the run game suppressed.

True and you have to respect Fournette.

I was really hating this football season given the Pats/Bucs seasons. I am so happy that the Bucs are in the post season with a home game. Now if the Pats can somehow beat Buffalo then this sour season will at least have a decent ending with some post-season play.
