Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Here’s Tom Brady’s answer today, asked about Bruce Arians, who will be inducted into Bucs’ Ring of Honor during Sunday’s game vs. Carolina:

We’ll get more details today, but Bucs quarterback Blaine Gabbert was one of the first to respond on his jet ski Thursday evening when a helicopter went into the water off Davis Islands. All four aboard survived, with Gabbert’s help.

Floating in open water after their helicopter had to make an emergency landing near Davis Islands, Hunter Hupp said he and his parents were quickly approached by three men on two jet skis, who helped them to shore. One of them was Bucs QB Blaine Gabbert.

Bucs in good shape on injuries — nobody ruled out, only Carlton Davis and Carl Nassib mentioned by Bowles as game-time decisions. Good progress for Donovan Smith, Tristan Wirfs, Vita Vea.

“We’ll see Sunday for Vita and Donovan,” Bowles said to clarify after saying only Davis and Nassib were game-time decisions.

The NFL backup quarterback coming to the rescue of a helicopter crash via Jet Ski is peak Florida.

TAM 23
CAR 16

Remarkably 23 would be their highest point total in a win.
Winning scores this season:
19-3
20-10
21-15
16-13
21-16
17-16
19-16

3 of their last 4 wins came by way of scoring with 9 seconds or less remaining in the game.

All of their wins, point totals...
Quarters 1-3 = 72
4th Quarter & OT = 61

Brady's TDs...
Quarters 1-3 = 10
Quarter 4 = 11

Tampa Bay's rushing TDs (and NFL rank) by Quarter...
1st Quarter = 1 (t-22nd)
2nd Quarter = 2 (t-27th)
3rd Quarter = 1 (t-28th)
4th Quarter = 0 (32nd)

Offensively they're scoring and winning games almost exclusively through the passing game. Their 4 rushing TDs are the fewest in the NFL by a wide margin (3 teams are tied ahead of them with 7). Only 4 other teams in the NFL have less than 10 rushing TDs.

Dummy Bowles continues to say they have to run the ball more. How about running the ball with even the slightest degree of effectiveness before they worry about more runs of 2 yards or less. This week Bowles is talking about more balance between Fournette and White. While I sort of like White, and Fournette is just a fat load who they rely on too much in the running and passing game, neither are effective running, both averaging less than 4 yards per carry, with that average even much lower on short yardage plays. Running game has been killing the offense this season.

Nice chart. Both teams are remarkably similar/even in both offense and defense.
Bucs have to play to their potential or at least Brady has to pull out some 4th quarter magic to win.

In addition to the short yardage runs on 1st down, the 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 runs have been killing the Bucs.

Just going off the top of my head, it seems like they got stuffed in those situations about 20x and been successful maybe 5x.

They run the offense to get to 3rd and short in their first 2 plays instead of running it to get the 1st down right away. Pretty pathetic

Having that many passing yards per game but so few point per game is absolutely mind boggling. It’s the most stark evidence of complete red zone futility.
Brady has 19 red zone TDs (and 0 INTs). He ranks 6th in the TD category. His 17 TDs inside the 10 ranks 3rd.

Bucs red zone rushing stats...

61 yards (32nd... 2nd is 89... 3rd is 104)
1.4 Y/A (32nd... only one other team is below 2.0)
4 TDs (32nd)
9 rushes for a first down (32nd)
0 rushes >10 yards (32nd... only team with 0)

Bowles does that to keep his defense rested and fresh. That's why his teams struggle to score when he's the head coach.

I'm done with the 4th qtr magic. Take the lead from the start and never give it up is what I want to see.

Sometimes the best defense is offense. Raiders along with Saints/Payton are the best option for Brady. Let's face it. If Brady plays, it will be his last year. He can still throw it but if his mobility was 4 out 10 before, it is now 2 out of 10. He needs a strong supporting cast and good coaches to play elite which the Raiders and Payton could provide.

I don't include the 49rs cause I think there's zero chance he goes there. Don't include the Pats because I'm sure BB/Kraft would not go all in for Brady. Tennessee might be another option.

As for playing the AFC West, Brady should be able to easily win half the games with a strong offense alone.
Saints with Payton + Gronk is a much wiser option than the Raiders. Whatever additional weapons he has on offense is negated by having the Chargers and Chiefs in the same division to murder their defense (plus a tough Broncos defense).

Assuming they can arrange the cap the Saints with these guys is by far the division favorites. In what will probably be a weak conference again. With a weak ass schedule. They play the NFC North and AFC South lol. And the two good AFC South teams (Titans and Jags) have to come to the Super Dome. And they’ll be playing either an 3rd or last place divisional schedule so the Cardinals and Washington Commanders in all likelihood. And they’ll face an AFC East opponent which will probably be the Patriots because of shared 2022 division standing lmao.

I didn’t know you couldn’t upgrade a defense in the offseason. McDaniels is not stupid and knows that his defense is it’s weak link.

Also their defense was not helped a lot by the offense who was often completely inexistant in 2nd half of game mainly due to Carr sucking. They lost a bunch of one score game. They could’ve easily be 9-6 or 10-5 right now. Adding Brady and Gronk to the Raiders would change a lot of things.

Also for as bad as that defense allegedly is why are there 9 losses only by 7 points or less

& Chargers : 24-19 loss
@ Chiefs : 30-29 loss
Vs Chargers: 27-20 win

They’ve given up 30 or more only 4 times which doesn’t seem like a lot and somehow that was vs NE, Houston, Chiefs, and Seattle I don’t know why they gave up 30 to 3 bad offenses. Like you said they can and will improve the defense they’ll have 77 million after cutting care and reconstructing Jones sign Brady, Jacobs, and Gronk to market deals and draft picks. That leaves 34 million to improve the defense and line

Sean Payton has proven he can be a head coach at a championship level with a HoF QB. Josh has not. Now, is that more to do with lack of opportunity and not lack of skill? Very possibly. We can’t know. That’s the X Factor here. If it’s a Brady, Payton, Gronk package deal then the Saints are a better spot. Simple as that.

Also, if the Saints can do their roster management wizardry regards to the cap then this Saints roster is on paper the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NFC depending on what the hell is happening with the 49ers at QB. The Eagles are better. Cowboys Vikings and Packers are absolutely not. The Raiders meanwhile would be on paper the 2nd or 3rd best team in their own division.

Tom going to play for the Saints is like him going to play for the Jets. He would now have 2 fan bases that hate him.

It's fun all this speculation but let me save you guys some time:

1. He retires and goes to Fox @ $25M/yr with Gronk, or
2. He plays for Tampa Bay.
