OT: Coaching firings around the league

The Broncos are doomed, they will have to eat the largest cap hit in history, there's no way RW can play as a traditional pocket passer and he doesn't seem very smart either, he wasn't a fraud by any means in Seattle but it's looking like he was the biggest system QB in history and the Broncos can't replicate that system because Wilson is not 23 anymore.

And people used to say Brady was a system QB...

Donkeys announced that they've also canned their OL & STs coaches...

Do I detect a trend beginning?

No idea why Sean Payton would go to Denver.

Arguable the most competitive division in the league
Worst QB in the division by far
Two elite QB's to face 4x/ year
Stuck with said worst QB
No degree of success in 7 years

If it were the Chargers, I would understand.

The more I look at Payton's resume, the less impressed I am.

16 years as Saints HC. 15 of those with a HOF QB.
Missed the postseason 7 times
Three NFC title trips

His coaching played a huge role in three straight postseason losses (17-19). The no call stands out. Yet, his play calling before said event, kept the Rams hanging around. In 2017, the Minnesota Miracle sticks out. However, he was unable to get one first down to essentially kick a last second fg. Minnesota would've had no time for a miracle if the Saints last possession resulted in a first. He was outclassed in 2019 by Zimmer. Refused to run the ball while his 41 year old QB was getting abused all day.

Yes, he did win a Super Bowl in 2009. What's stunning is even with Minnesota having 5 turnovers, and Favre being Favre late, the Vikings were inches away from winning that game somehow.

His gutsiest move ever was the Super Bowl onside kick. They were down 10-6 at the time. If Hank Baskett recovers that ball, you give Peyton Manning a short field trailing by four. Regardless, it worked and the Colts never truly recovered imo. Turning point.

He is a good coach. I just think his reputation is larger than the actual results.

Broncos have new owners and they will likely want to make a splash move to appease their fans and assuage their brushed egos. I heard they are having “co-owner“ Condoleeza Rice be directly involved in the process. Her expertise regarding football coaching is hopefully superior to her expertise in her previous high profile job assignment, but that fact (if the reports I heard are correct) should tell you where the Walton’s are coming from.

Yep, even the Seahawks couldn't make that system work any longer because Russ couldn't make the throws he used to make, couldn't run the way he used to run, and had pissed off half if not more of the locker room. Now they survived the Gee No! season, took the cap hits from the trade and have the draft capital and cap space to go in a new direction. Should be interesting to see how they develop.

Serious question : would he be a good candidate for our OC position? I know he sucks as HC but consider HC records of other successful coordinators in NE:

McDaniels, O’Brien, Daboll (best so far?), Weis, Crennel (not awful), Judge, Flores etc…

To me, there is a clear distinction between HC and ability to call plays. Can’t be worse than Patricia.

Big caveat is that it’s hard to attribute his impact on offense when they had Lafleur calling plays in GB
I knew it was coming lol

I mean... maybe?

Right on cue:

What the hell else can he say? Hey, I screwed up and took a guy who's got so many issues that he shot himself out of Seattle? I gave up a king's ransom for a guy who is eventually going to get me fired? Our OL room can't stand this guy, and it's a huge problem in the locker room that the next coach is going to have to fix? Ownership should launch Paton as soon as possible.

“I would say the biggest difference between Bill and Staley is relationships. (Staley) has relationships with every single player on the team. It’s really impressive how he can work a room. He’s got everybody’s number in (his) favorites. He can call them right then and there. And any player, he reaches out. I respect that. In this new age of players, you’ve gotta do that. And he’s done a great job of that.”

Salah is hanging on for dear life.

Lovie Smith has no business being a HC.

Brandon Staley bought time finally making the playoffs.

Josh McDaniels should've been canned after losing to Jeff Saturday in his first game as a HC. Yet beats Bill....again.

Dan Campbell is just a feel good story.

Matt Eberflus could be gone soon.

Kliff Kingsberry is a dead man walking.

Probably time to let Arthur Smith go.

Kevin Stefanski gets one more shot with Watson.

Good point.

What a fall from grace.

From SB Champs to 7 years of no playoffs.

I would take Kingabury as Oc with a inside track at HC

Jesus. Not sure who would want to go into that mess.
