Since PFF began grading college football in 2014, no Alabama offense has been better than the one led by Mac Jones, Devonta Smith and Najee Harris in 2020.

Using the same parameters, Jones’ 2020 campaign ranks first in accurate pass percentage on throws between one and nine yards (74.6%), first on throws of 10-19 yards (57.8%) and second on 20-plus yard throws (46.3%).
Every successful quarterback needs a No. 1 option, and Jones’ is senior wide receiver Devonta Smith. That quarterback-wide receiver duo has emerged as the best in the country — and possibly in the PFF College era (since 2014). While Jones' current PFF grade would be the highest of any college quarterback in a season since 2014, the same can be said about Smith, whose 94.9 PFF grade in 2020, if it stands, would be the highest ever given to a wide receiver in PFF College’s history.
The problem on our Patriots offense is NOT Mac Jones. He didn't suddenly turn into Shytbag Jones because of the pros. The CLEAR problem is BB's "middle class" drafting theory. Give Mac the protection up front he had at Bama and give him at least ONE REAL NUMBER ONE WR..and give him the same TE weapons enjoyed by KC and San Fran and Mac Jones can certainly perform up to the best QB in college football in 2020.
Look at our putrid offensive line...it's embarrassing. On
what team does a Cajuste even earn a roster spot? Yet we sit here and endure sub-par talent like this and outright overrated underperforming oft injured talent like Wynn et al.
Jakobi Meyers is a nice possession receiver even better suited with a TRUE #1 like Stefon Diggs. Crapcan the horrid hands of TE Jonnu Smith and get a Kelce or Kittle and Mac Jones will win and progress in this league.
This team needs a paradigm shift and I believe with BB running things, things will NOT change
I agree with your OL thoughts, but I STILL resist the need for the requirement of a 'true #1' WR to make a QB or offense tick. Brady had ONE true #1 WR for just 2.5 seasons (Randy Moss) and managed to do fairly well by most standards. What the Pats DID have over those 20 yrs of the Brady era were a bunch of dependable, very good WR's , heavy on the DEPENDABLE term. THAT is what a QB like Jones needs.
Now I certainly wouldn't throw away a "true #1" if he happened to end up here, but it would be a LUXURY not a requirement. Personally, given a choice, I'd rather have a all pro DLman, or a "true" shut down CB than a #1 WR.
But here's the thing, J, to win superbowls you need a VERY deep 53 man roster. One that is very good on BOTH sides of the ball. Have a dependable 90% FG kicker inside the 50 on ST's. You need to be at least +8 on TO's. You also need to be smart with penalties and have good luck with injuries to have a chance.
To me winning a superbowl is the hardest championship to win among the major sports. It's the only one with a one and done playoff format, so even one bad break or bounce of the ball can spell doom. Be it a missed call like in 2007 or a key injury (pick any post season Gronk doesn't play.).
QB's and WR's get all the credit or blame, yet if the OL sucks, then neither will succeed. We ALL know this to be true, but it rarely fits the narrative we need when using out of context stats.
Just look at the ones that seem to show conclusively that the Pats move the ball better in play action passes when Mac is under C.
But what is lost in this is what defenses the opponent is using, what personnel package we are going to see, or how the opponent will react to the look.
So unless you know all this when you use this stat, you DON'T have a true picture and what seems to be a no brainer conclusion, may NOT be a "no brainer" at all
