Bill Belichick: Highest Paid Coach in North American Sports at $20m per

Exactly, the Pats deviated from their previous model of managing the cap by trading guys/letting them go early vs late thereby keeping the future tab manageable. They did so realizing there were championships there to be won. Again look at what LA and Tampa did to get just one championship, we've had it pretty damn good here. We all danced but now that the band needs paying...
And all able to do it becuase of the ultimate equalizer.. THOMAS E. BRADY

Guys, please let's not get into another BB vs TB discussion. There have been numerous discussions and I think everyone is tired of these. If you have anything constructive to add to the original post, please do, otherwise, let's move on.

Thanks,

Ash

You don't cut a coach's salary unless you want to fire him
Why not just ask him to take a pay cut, like players are asked to do regularly.

I remember getting some flack for asking if the theory that was floated around a while back was true, that Kraft gives Belichick a total amount to spend that includes the salary cap and what he pays his staff. Maybe Bill is allowed to keep what's left over and that's why he has such a skimpy coaching staff.

Point made and heard. Thanks again.

You can also look at the Baltimore Ravens. They're probably the second best run franchise in the NFL.

They stick with their coach because they are football people and they evaluate their coach positively.

2 playoff wins in the last 9 years. He's not in danger of being fired.
You don't know that. I'd fire him just for screwing up the team's future by bringing in a RB for a QB.

That's beyond disingenuous. You can potentially argue the bolded part, but him being a once-in-a-lifetime player is 1000% percent true.

I get you have a schtick that you're trying to stick to, but I need you to tone that down before you further irritate all of us, myself included, that got to enjoy a ridiculous 20-year+ span that included 6 Super Bowl titles. None of us certainly saw that before he got here and we'll probably never see it - at least not at that magnitude - for the rest of the time we're all fortunate enough to be on this Earth.

Since most of our super bowls were won on defense, I'd have to disagree. Manning, Mahomes, Brees, Rodgers, etc. all would have been successful here.

And i'll leave it at that.

Yeah, not letting you have a "mic drop" moment on that. Yes, I agree all would have been successful. However, none of those names win six titles. Period. Rodgers turtled (and still turtles) when it mattered and so did Manning (how many one-and-done games did he have?), and Brees turned it over when it counted. Brady is mentally tougher than all of those guys, with Mahomes being the only potential outlier given what we've seen so far.

Enough. Again, I know that hurts the schtick you're running with, but "it is what it is." Let's move the discussion along.

Disagree, but like I said, I'll leave it at that.

Really? Coaches don’t get older, lose mental capacity? How many coaches have done anything over 70? The answer is literally none…ever wonder why?

Pete Carroll is OLDER and doing great without Russ Wilson….

Putting him on a pedestal just because you are insecure and in the process put Bill down is a different matter...

Disagree that he's a once in a lifetime player. There are plenty of elite QBs who could have won with Bill.
Now you're just being a contrarian. 7 Super Bowls. While he was here he was in the SB for half of his tenure. That's unheard of. He's still playing at a high level at 45. He's at the table with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, and a lot of Yankee greats I am not going to name because I hate the GD Yankees. I don't believe he's at the next level with the Muhammad Ali's of the world, but he's damned close. To suggest that he's not is ridiculous, and why we have such a divide on this board.

and so did Manning

I don't like Manning and he was clearly a subpar playoff QB but tbf to Manning he leads Brady & Belichick 3-2 in head to head Conference Title games.

I really dont care what Kraft wants to do with his money. Doesn't impact salary cap. No skin off my back.

The MVP of the NFL.

What an idiot Harbaugh is

Yep, he can go buy a couple of jets for all I care

I can't see who you're responding to so it must be someone I placed on ignore.

Aaron Rodgers is just plain weird.

I also just wanted to point out that PEDton Manning, the player who stuck his genitals in the face of a trainer trying to help him in college, had 9 one and done playoffs, 7 in Indy and 2 in Denver, and many of those were with the top seed. His playoff run started after the NYFL rescued him from the AFCE by creating a 4 team division of expansion teams for him to feast on. That gave him 17 playoff appearances that were also aided by his use of PED's, which of course he blamed on his wife.

Now for the "it is what it is" phrase. I think Bill was the first one to coin that phrase but I'm not sure. I don't remember hearing it until Bill made it so popular.

That may be, but the argument was whether or not he would have equaled Brady's six titles with Belichick. I don't think that would have been the case.

I do like how in this debate Bill's DC career is ignored. Yes ignore Bill won 2 SBs as a DC. 1 of his SB game plans is in the HOF. But I guess like with Brady that was all Lawrence Taylor....

Brady should thank Bill or else Joe Montana would still be called the GOAT and would have been 7-0 in SBs
