Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

With over 1 min left and the Browns with something like 3rd and goal, I was screaming at them to take a time out. The time meant nothing to the Browns and everything to TB. Then they run the ball and don't call a timeout? The only reason I can think of is that their WRs are so bad they wanted to go fast and catch the defense by surprise on the next play but it still makes no sense. All out blitz to kill the season last year on the last play? Why is Brate in there at all? This coach doesn't have the guts for this. He should not be playing over the young kid who has shown to be willing to block and make big plays up the middle. Don't get me started on Evans and how he doesn't finish routes every single game, but most of all his fans. Every ball apparently has to be exact for him or it's not his fault. Everyone in the world also knows what the play calls are in neutral situations as many have pointed out everywhere. The GM wants to be loyal to Bruce and his crew well this team will be one and done. Probably too late anyways. There are many average coaches in this league but it's mighty impressive to see coaching so bad that it costs wins.
For this team, being one and done will be considered a success as there is no guarantee that they'll even win the division.

Evans has been a disappointment. Not only going 2 for 9 but also not going for the homerun. On his 29 yard catch, it looks like he ran out of bounds without putting any effort to stay in bounds. If that were any number of players, I was thinking of Gronk in particular, they would have fought to stay in bound and would have had a chance to take it in for a TD.

In 22 seasons, Tom has never had a losing season. I would hate for this to be the first. But man, 9 wins seems like a tall order right now.

They have to go 4-2 the rest of the way. I was starting to think they had figured it out a bit in that two game winning streak, but now it's clear that they're just a mediocre team.

Bowles in the post game presser acted like timeouts weren't even a slight consideration. Like it never crossed his mind to use them. Seriously he had a complete look of bewilderment when asked about the timeouts. He's just a complete moron.

Exactly. Otton has been improving and becoming more productive so they bench him for a player with a known limited ceiling. WTF!? Also, where is Brady when these gameday inactives are being decided? Shouldn't he step in and tell Bowles or Leftwich which players he prefers? I can't imagine either would overrule Brady.

His effort was a disgrace yesterday. I'd say he looked injured but it's impossible to tell because of his endless antics all game every game. Evans is a prime candidate to get his 1000 yards and checkout on the season.

Also, the announcers were repeatedly commenting on Godwin being fully healthy now, and back to looking like his best, but honestly I don't see it. To me he's clearly lacking any explosiveness and his lateral movement still isn't there.

And with Julio Jones looking healthy (for the time being), he needs more targets.

Well, the Saints just scored 0 points. The Cardinals aren't very good, in particular their defense is bad. The Panthers suck. If they lose any of those games, Bowles should be fired before he hits the locker room. That's 8 wins. I will hope for limited embarrassment against the 49ers. The Bengals have been inconsistent but when healthy their offense is elite. The Bucs will probably need that week 18 @ATL game to finish with 9 wins. Although at this point I think 8-9 wins the division. Imagine the Brady discrediting that will happen with that outcome? He was sensational in 2020 and 2021, won a Super Bowl, and still his detractors conjured up reasons to discredit him.

Well it would actually be pretty damn funny if Brady’s one and only losing season was still a divisional championship with a home playoff game. Like even when the man loses he wins.

I think the math is generous enough that if the Bucs beat both the Saints and Falcons, which yeah is probably a total coin flip, nothing else matters. They’ll win the division even if they lose every other game and finish 7-10.

how do we know Brady doesn't have input here...isn't that what we've been lauding him for over the past couple of years and his *ability* to get BA kicked upstairs?

That's why I'm asking the question. Someone made the decision to start Brate over Otton. I find it hard to believe Brady was ok with that. And if he wasn't then why did it happen.

If Brady "got BA kicked upstairs" then it was a major blunder on his part. Not necessarily because of BA's value but because his replacement (Bowles) has been an abject failure.

You are correct that we don't know and he's part of the problem in that regard one way or the other. He couldn't call the most important time outs while the defense was out there but to then run a run play and try to hurry up? Is he insane? He also has been using alot of alerts on first down and switching to run plays from what I can tell. It's not that you shouldn't run on first down but don't they have staff that are telling them that they are in 2 & 8 every game, every drive? They only try actual passing plays on third and long. Something is terribly wrong in TB and Brady is a party of it. He doesn't trust these WRs if he's agreeing to these game plans and calls. The play designs are straight up garbage and if Arians and his goons thinks that because it worked in 2020 that nothing should change he's insane. You can't just line up and show your hand and try to just 'beat your man'. I also agree that although Godwin looks better, he's not elite. There is no WR1 on this team. Should NEVER LOSE to the brows or CAR. Lets wait for the predictable rant by Arians and his tribal defense of his boys while he throws the players under the bus. I'm ranting now.

Leftwich is never getting a head coaching job. He was a marginal candidate at best before this season but now he's completely off anyone's radar. He probably won't see another OC job after Tampa Bay either. If Bowles survives into next season then he may hang around in Tampa Bay with the division being so uncompetitive but this is the last stop for him as a head coach. Watching him up close this season, he's about as incompetent as a head coach has ever looked.

So it appears that Wirfs didn’t break his leg. Might not matter for this season but it’s incredibly fortunate going forward for his career and life in general.

Seeing a report that Wirfs should be out 3-4 weeks.

Bucs need to just hang in there. They will be a completely different team once him and Jensen are back. If they win the division and they certainly can... look out.

Look out for a run that nets 1 to 2 yards on first down, an incomplete 2nd down throw/screen that goes nowhere and a 3rd down sack/incomplete pass/penalty?

Frustrating to watch
Every 1st down starts out with a failed run or a long deep pass to and Evans who is mailing it in
No management of TOs by the HC at end of half pissing away what could have been a chance at the winning FG
Brate plays over Otton??? WTF???
Bowels (sic) is incompetent as a HC
Offense completely asleep 2nd half while D on a tear yielding many good opportunities for the offense
Offense has couple series in OT and fails to get even into a go for it on fourth situation
Leftwich is brutally incompetent; I have NO IDEA what Brady claims to see in him
Game losing collapse by D reminiscent of playoff exit last season
Brady must have deep regrets having chosen this clown show over family
We KNOW that Brady will not be back in Tampa in 2023 and alternative team scenarios shrinking; he retires

The 1st and 2nd down play-calling is so incredibly frustrating to watch. It's the definition of insanity.

Yeah, look out for it. The defense certainly will. They’ve put enough of it on film this year.

I take it you missed the game earlier this year where the Panthers beat the Bucs 21-3... somehow Bowles kept his job.

I think we do know that it isn't Brady driving the bus. Bowles made it clear when he became head coach that he's the boss and that they are going to stick with the run. True to his word, they continue to run on almost all 1st downs. As for Leftwhich, I don't think he appreciated looking like a cukk on national TV when Brady overruled his play calling a year ago.

Lastly, for Brady, I think he's just going through the motion. We saw it in 2019 when the team gave him utter garbage with aging players, bad drafting, and bad FA signings. We are seeing it again in 2022 with the team sticking to their stupid play callings, starting Brate over Otton (previously sticking with Goedeke too), not going for it at Cleveland's 37 line (at least go for the 50% chance of making a field goal), Evans stepping out for a 29 yard gain instead of trying to get a TD, not using time out to end the game with a field goal for the win. I can't blame Brady for not really being into it. The coaches are so moronic and it's effecting the whole team, Brady, Evans, etc.

I agree that to me it also looks like he's just saying **** it and going with the motions. He looks like Arod out there. I also agree that it looked like that in 2019 a little bit but I disagree that it has anything to do with personnel and everything to do with coaching and decisions at the top that are driving it. Just like it did in 2019 when they basically told him to stop talking to the players at practice etc etc. I don't know what I would do if I was the GM as it pertains to this season. Can it be saved if you demand some firings? Do you let Bowles come back next year? Do they truly believe it's not the coaching ? The offense is garbage. A can of tomatoes can do better. They can't put up 20 points game after game. Are they this stupid?
