Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

8 penalties oof. And crucial ones, too, in the red zone; Jets last drive.

Yep. Just can't have those and be successful too often. They have a LOT of improvement they need to make. But....they still dominated the game today all over the field. The scoreboard doesn't reflect that, sadly, but it was enough to win (and cover the spread!).

I wanted to see how the fan base was doing, after tragically winning a game, horribly holding the other guys to 3 points, and Jones going a terrible 23 for 27 for 246 terrible sub-par yards and no interceptions.

I can't wait to get the full game availability so I can see how horrible our playcalling is, blah blah blah. Most whining uses exact carbon copy terminology, and that usually echoes the sports media. People in Boston hate their team. Props to those of you also celebrating and enjoying the win. For the rest of you, Jesus, do you ever give it a rest? Are you even aware that you only get a W or an L, not extra points for scoring in buckets?

And anybody who's not cheering for an interception-free Mac Jones game, I don't know what you've been watching this season.

Sure, 3 offensive points isn't enough. Raise your hand if you didn't know that.
There’s a word for how some of us New England fans are…what was it….spoiled? Entitled? Hmmm all of the above? Spot on post.

I do find it odd that many of my comrades that criticize the Pats aren't anywhere to be found when they win, but the flood gates get open when they lose. Maybe they'll show up this week.

You're right. Go back to the GDT and all the posters that were complaining, are nowhere to be found now. I won' t point them out, but we know who they are and it's a subtle way to troll and they'll be back this week doing the same thing if we struggle against Minn.

I'm here. Speaking for myself...I'm happy we won. I'm also pissed the offense played so bad. It's a trend.

This. I'm critical of Mac, but people need to stop ignoring the holding penalties and inconsistent playcalling/play design. It's not helping.

I actually thought Mac wasn't bad today. Wasn't that good, took some bad sacks and probably should been able to do more given the field position, but it's not all on him. Some drops. No real bad pass I remember.
No one is ignoring the holding penalties. On the contrary. We're calling them out for the BS they are when the Opposing O-line is doing MUCH WORSE to Pats players.

The two missed field goals are not Mac's fault.

The Jets' DL is >>> than our OL in its currently depleted state (or even if everyone was healthy). Very few QB's can cope with quick pressure up the middle like Mac saw on many plays, nor with first-and-20 like he often saw after the holds. The play-calling was conservative - but that is sensible given how well our defense was doing.

One of them was, most certainly, Mac's fault because he didn't throw the damn ball away instead of taking a sack and pushing the Pats back. Folk couldn't make 38 from that end in Practice.
THere weren't that many quick pressure's up the middle in the game. ANd there wasn't on the play where he was sacked prior to the field goal.

There were no holds. They were fictitious. That's the problem. The Refs saw things that weren't there while allowing MUCH MUCH worse to be done by the Jets' O-line.

See what I mean, relentless. You're Johnny-One-Note. Do you have anything to add about any other subject pertaining to the Patriots?
Is he wrong? Is Mac STILL Processing the defense the way he should? Is he seeing the field the way he should? How many times did he throw to one side while completely ignoring the other and far more open receivers? I counted at least twice he never looked to his left, missing wide open players who'd have had 20+ yards..

I just want to point out that the Patriots actually dominated this game. Their offense was better. Their defense was better. And their special teams (thanks to the punt return TD) were better.

They had 2x the number of first downs. Nearly 3x the number of yards gained. More than 2x the number of yards gained per play. They actually moved the ball quite a bit against the Jets today, but yeah, big time struggle once they got into position to score. So that's a huge, huge problem that they need to figure out.

But the TV announcers were acting like somehow this was a game the Jets deserved to win but didn't. No they didn't. They didn't do jack today. The Patriots dominated them up and down the field all game long.
I look forward to watching the absolute shut-down of Lil Zachie reflected in the numbers... boo hoo, we better get good enough where we're the must-see game every week LOL... so tired of stuff like Indy-Philly

The negative nancies have taken over this board. People define fandom in different ways I guess. I personally think it means cheering them on no matter what and enjoy the wins and good plays when they come. Others seem to think it means following a team, cheering them when they are a top 5 team in the league, and rip them the rest of the time. I honestly think fans of other teams are easier on the patriots players/staff than some people here.
I think to the extent that other fans are paying attention, they have a wary eye on us think "Aw crap are they about to be good again?"

I can only speak to the numbers so far on this game. My guess is we spent the bye getting ready to do... this. Yes, you "play not to lose" when the option is losing. Zero Int. plus good defense and good productivity = win. Step 1 on the road to effin' impressive. Yes, we need better offensive production to get there, especially in the RZ. But a game like today's but with a couple TDs to boot sounds damn good to me. I think we're on the way.

If Bill, Mat, or Joe are holding out on a Super Duper fix for our Red Zone woes, it just may be the time to unveil it!

Although our hero was Marcus Jones in the ST

The work the defense is doing is just out-of-this-world.

But now cakewalk path is over. We are facing tough teams all the way to end, fortunately they all are with their own problems now

In any case BIggest thing: they need to mantain this level throughtout december this year. It was around this time that they stared to show signs of slowing down

Taking a look at the approach and the follow-through, we can see that contact initiated from the side. The reason the foul exists is that a blocker who has been beaten cannot just throw a desperation push in the back. The rule states that a simultaneous push to the side and the back is a foul. In this case -- and we are using the still frames to illustrate the point of contact, but review the video in full as well -- the contact is initiated from the side, then the hand touches the back after the block has been delivered. In real time, officials will see this is delivered to the side, and not a blocker that has been passed and reaches for the side in addition to the illegal block in the back.
Thanks I get it, but it was not necessary. That is my bigger concern. Wilson is a smart player and he put the team at this with this block.

I'm super curious what happens on Thursday. The Vikings should be the better team, but they got absolutely dunked on by Dallas today. Short week, so only so much game planning can be done. Anything's possible.

The defense can hopefully keep Minnesota from scoring too much, but they'll most likely score more than 3. Pats offense will need to produce, but the Vikings defense is certainly a lower tier than NYJ's.

You say Strange. Ashley says maybe Hines. I say Kody Russey. Bill says Thanksdad.
Hines is on IR.

Bill may not say Ferentz after today.

Going into this game the Vikings were 17th in team DVOA and mediocre in all three phases of the game. They shouldn't be 8-2.
