Pre-Game Thread- Bears @ Pats

I think he is itching to get back out there though as Zappe has a chance to get two out three more wins at worst which would make them 6-3 or 5-4. Zappe would then be 5-1 or 4-2 as a starter and the noise will get louder he should keep playing.

Getting back to actually talking football a few thoughts

1. Whatever much smack you smugly want to talk about Harry, the fact remains he's a 6'4 230 lb WR who will have a backfield full of midgets trying to cover him. Its a great match up for the Bears offense and something that will concern Bill, but maybe not some of the "REAL" football geniuses who just LOVE it when someone is failing. Personally I'd match up Harry with Duggar, our only DB with any size, or maybe Peppers as a 2nd choice, even if he is out wide.

2 The math is still the same as every game. Stop the run. In this case I'd settle for "controlling the run" Keep it under 150. Don't let the best part of the Bears offense beat you. Stop the pass - Field best passing attribute is his ypc. DON'T let him make big passing plays. Hold him to under 4 20+ yd passing plays. Make him drive the ball on 10+ play drives. They won't make many.

Offense the biggest key will be to run the ball effective. The Bears FU has been pretty good against the run, they are a real step up from the Browns last week who did a decent job against the run. We have got to grind out over 100 yds to give us a lot of 3rd and 5's or less. Play action passes don't work when its 3rd and long. Anything over 250 yds without a pick would be gravy.

We are NOT going to see 4 TO's Monday I'd be THRILLED with 2 and happy with one. But regardless of the number WINNING the TO battle is to win this game.

3. I'm pretty sure Mac will play. I hope he's at least at 90% I hope Harris doesn't. Hammys are tough on RB's and given that this game will likely be the easiest we play for the rest of the year, I'd give him the night off. Hope Larry Guy plays. The more beef we have the better.

Every one who is talking about this game sees it as a sure win. Mediots, the fans have all written off the Bears before they even show up to Gillette . WTF guys, haven't you been watching the league this year. upset after big upset has been happening all over the league. NEVER forget that EVERY guy on EVERY 53 man roster is a VERY good football player. So the old adage of "on any given Sunday...." os ,more true that you think.

A strip sack and run for 6 can happen ANY time the QB drops back. No QB is immune. Some time the ball bounces right up for them, and you do the very same thing and the ball bounces right into some RT's grasp.

SO on paper, WE have the batter offense. WE have the better defense. WE have the better ST's But unfortunately the game isn't played on PAPER. Its played on a field with 22 extraordinary athletes with a ball that is an oblong spheroid and takes a lot of funny bounces.

It is a game thy SHOULD win, but that doesn't mean they don't have to EARN it.

All i can say is for me Tyquan should be able to score 2 td per game minimum here on out. Thats my prediction if Zappe is our qb.

Getting everyone ready for a Saturday. Don't forget, because we play Monday night, we are having practice today:

Bears RB David Montgomery is very good. Tulane product Darnell Mooney is basically the Bears only good WR. Former Fighting Irish TE Cole Kemet has all the tools to be a Star in the NFL, but the Bears can never make it happen.

They sorely miss Allen Robinson.

I wouldn't bet on that. First, as pointed out, even the best receivers don't get two TDs a game. Randy Moss holds the record at 23 TDs in a season and that is less than two TDs a game. Second, one of Thornton's TD last week was a rushing TD. So he hasn't actually even scored two receiving TDs in a game yet.

I like what I have seen by the guy thus far and looks to have the ability to potentially become a special receiver. But let's pump the breaks a bit. Jaa'Marr Chase won the OROY last year and he only had 13 TDs which wasn't even one TD a game.

And DJ Moore averages less than 4 TDs per year (less than 1 TD every 4 games), and he is considered a #1 wide receiver.

Why do you guys keep taking the cheese. Clearly the guy was trolling you.

Moving on: It should be noted that 3 of the Bears losses have been by one score. (with only an early season loss to the Packers the exception) So as badly as their rankings are at various categories, the Bears SEEM to be in every game they play. Why do we suddenly think that they are going to be blown out in this one? Thus far the Bears have played what seems to be a tougher schedule, (Giants, Vikings, GB, and SF and they beat SF by 9) They also have had 3 EXTRA days to get healthy, practice and scheme.

So again, WHY does everyone, media and fans included STILL think their game is a walk-over. The Bears IIRC are going to be just about fully healthy, while we have 8 IMPORTANT guys that are still questionable.

BTW- anyone have any idea of the status of Ty Montgomery and Cajuste. I would have thought that both would at least be practicing by now

Cajuste isn’t eligible to return to practice until after Monday’s game. We really have nothing on Montgomery other than Reiss strongly hinting that he’ll be back at some point.

I like what I saw when he was skipping. There was some bounce in his legs. BUT what we saw afterward wouldn't what I would consider "sprinting" but rather controlled running. At least I hope that's what it was, I'd hate to think that was Mac's top speed.

The Browns played all of their prior opponents tough too. And look what happened.

Same with detroit, every loss of theirs before us was by one score. Cle and detroit are pretty bad teams but they are not the pushovers everyone is making them out to be. We’re the only team so far to dominate either team. Both worried me more than chicago

We may have the easiest schedule of all time. All these games against trash bag quarterbacks and head coaches

Wonder how we’ll do when we face a real team

I get the opposite - this has more of the makings of the Bears Commanders Thursday night 12-7 game to me. You have a likely first game in weeks scenario with Jones (who was not lighting it up before he got injured) or I think a high blitz scenario if its Zappe (like corner and delay blitzes especially now with film on him starting to accumulate) to see if he can stay calm when there is a lot of quick pressure. I think they'll play a lot in the box too like Cleveland did just with more pressure packages.

Remember, the Browns game wasn't a true blowout until the last quarter and that turned on basically two plays. That scenario is not common.
