OT: Christian McCaffery deal to San Fran

One of a couple teams with a shot at taking down Philly. Good for them
I'm not going to be able to handle another Eagles SB

The 49ers are gambling on him staying heathy if he does I can see them going very deep in NFC Playoffs. Kyle Shanahan is going to be even more creative with that Offense I'm a little jealous not gonna lie.

That's what I'm saying.

I agree. They are trading away four future picks at low salaries for one oft-injured guy with a high salary and six years of mileage on the wheels. If any one of the picks become reliable starters, it's a win for the Panthers, and I like the one in four odds a lot. If any two hit, it's a clear win for the Panthers.

I'm not too sure I'd be projecting forward the next several years.

Christian McCaffrey - Injury History says he has a 10% chance getting injured in any particular game this season and an 84% chance of being injured at some point this season. I know no one can predict such things, it's just a statistical inference made from the overall history of injury in the league, but man, that is an injury risk if I've ever seen one. A lot of the injuries fall into the category of soft tissue injuries, which IMO are pretty scary.
For comparison

JG has 22% chance of injury. I would say either that makes the website BS, or McCaffrey is significantly more injury prone than JG

Sorry I don't follow the compensation picks of the San Francisco 49ers. As a Patriots fan, it is a sin to not know all the compensatory picks of all the NFC West teams.

I am sorry I was wrong when I said they do not have any picks until the third day of the draft. They are likely to have picks at the end of the second day that are practically third day picks.

My thoughts:

1.) Great haul for the Panthers. 2,3,4 to go along with their likely high 1st rounder this April. Plus, they get CMC's $$$ off the books too...11M for a RB is no bueno...no matter how good the RB is, IMO. Not in today's NFL.

2.) The Panthers would be wise to hold onto their defensive players and D.J. Moore, IMO.

3.) The Niners certainly get a lot better. Read a FFL article this AM saying that CMC wouldn't catch more balls, but may have more rushing attempts inside the red zone. I disagree.... Jimmy is gonna love checking down to CMC and it frees up Deebo to run routes on the other side...talking about stretching defenses from sideline to sideline.

4.) How many draft picks do the Niners and the Rams have left in the next two drafts? I am guessing neither team has their 1s and 2s?

While both have their share of soft-tissue injuries, we see JG had a few bone breaks, the kind that IMO can happen on any play, and tend to heal completely.

Didn't the 49ers spend half a draft's worth of picks on the QB? And then again for CMC? I wonder how they do this. Them and the Rams seem to spend unlimited picks in trades and then still manage to build stacked teams fairly consistently.

This is a very risky trade for Shanahan. Every year it's a revolving door at RB with injuries despite his RB friendly scheme, yet he trades for an injury prone RB. Shanahan is in a bad spot. Lose and the noise gets louder that both he and Lynch get fired. Go far in the playoffs with Jimmy, but then lose him to FA who takes the team far in the playoffs every year he's played a full season.

Keep this in mind, Kyle has never had a winning season as a coordinator or HC two years in a row. I would put money on him not having a winning season, but the NFC is really bad this year.

They strike gold in the middle rounds of the draft. They somehow are collecting picks for minority coaching hires.

Well the 49ers just started doing it. It impacted 2021 and 2022. But they started with a high group of talent anyway - they were the NFC champs in 2020 - so it’ll take a while to catch up with them. Just like it took a while for the Pats drafting woes to catch up to them.

In the Rams case, they’ve just been good at drafting with the few mid round picks they have. And their big name player acquisitions have generally worked out rather than being busts (contrast with Sanu for example).

not sure what this means for my fantasy team, Carolina ran like 50%+ of their offense thru him

Part of me wonders if this is them going “all in” this year, or if it’s more about having a great back to take pressure off of Lance the next several years.
If it's about Lance why wouldn't they get him supporting players next year with these resources?

The Rams' sorcery may have run out this year. Some guy named Ben Skowronek has been getting 87% of offensive snaps this year at WR. The OL is a mess and they're a bottom third offensive team and a mediocre defensive team, 25th in overall point differential.

They did? CMC is signed for several years.

You have to think that they are trying to protect the investment they made in Trey Lance ... They gave up a lot to get him and the returns have been a red shirt rookie season and one complete game in year 2 vs Chicago where he didn't do so well...

It looks like they overpaid for CMC imo to take the pressure of of Lance next year

If I'm the niners I'd be trying to see if I can keep Jimmy G another year. He's not "elite" but has shown he can at least win games. Lance is an unknown and now coming off an injury. If Jimmy leaves next year and lance looks like a bust, coaching staff could be on the hot seat.

Isn't this the perfect situation for TB to finish his career?

They can even add Gronk and a few others.

Might even do it on the cheap if the divorce works out.

you mean in SF? in theory... he could even crash in his moms basement... housing aint cheap out there...

the only thing i question is - could he abide working with Shanahan... guys fingerprints are all over every facet of their offense... not sure brady would appreciate such a hands on approach like that...

I can see what you mean but again, you look like fools with Lance.
