NFL QB Rankings (looking toward 2023)

I always think there is some ulterior motive in the people who seem to go out of their way to trash Jackson.
Failure in the playoffs, him being the worst player on the field in a those losses, a general hatred of the Ravens… what do you think it is beyond that?

Yeah, I regularly cite Mahomes and Deshaun Watson as two of the best QB’s in the league… but LJ’s skin tone is a problem.

Not just dumb, but lazy. You’re a joke.

Lol... arm strength is the biggest load of garbage regarding the Patriot's QB's... whether we're talking about Mac or Zappe.

Yeah, Mac has a weak arm, even though we’ve seen him complete multiple 45+ yard passes that were entirely air yards.
Let's review:
Quarterback A needs to throw rainbows to get the ball down field requiring 3-4 seconds flight time.
Quarterback B throws lasers the same distance with air-time 2-3 seconds

When Quarterback A throws a deep pass, coaches and announcers refer to it as a 50/50 ball....aka... Moon Ball / Prayer / Desperation Pass / Just As Good As A Punt / etc
When Quarterback B throws a deep pass, safeties have less time to provide cover, and coaches and announcers often refer to the target as the open guy...."Evans had two steps on the CB and the safety had no time to help out. Quarterback A drives the football down field and hits the open target....TD"

Note: 1 second = 30 feet traveled running full speed

Arm strength is the most overrated nonsense casual fans bandy about. Last season Sean Payton had Jameis Winston playing at a hyper efficient level by keeping the clamps on him, this year he is the same reckless decision maker he always has been, and all the arm strength in the world won't help him... and he has it in spades.
Winston's 2019 got him shidtcanned by Tampa.
His big arm stats: 33 TDs, 30 INTs, 5109 yds

Mac's projected 2022 stats: 12 TDs, 30 INTs, 4454 yds

Note: 33 is 21 passing TDs more than 12

One is called "reckless"

The other is described by faithful fans as a "smart decision maker"....yet DBs and Safeties are feasting on his mistakes and inadequacies.

One has the arm to zip it into tight windows

The other requires timing patterns and 50/50 prayers handcrafted by the Pats coaching staff to accommodate the QB's limited skillset and mitigate his deficiencies.
Last season, Mac (and coaches) played it safe......a run first/short pass/move the chains offense that required long/sustained/mistake free drives.
This season, Mac has been asked to be more vertical.
Initial indicators are Winstonian (minus the TDs)

Nope; he's just another Me-First jumpy punk with IQBS... Nothing more.

Yeah, Mac has a weak arm, even though we’ve seen him complete multiple 45+ yard passes that were entirely air yards. The longest pass TB12 made in his historic 2007 season traveled about 47 air yards... or the same distance Mac threw on one long pass to N'Keal Harry last year.
LOL! You're comparing 2007 Brady to 2022 Jones? Is that what you're doing? That's worse than your Brees and Zappe comparison.

And Zappe, he has a weak arm also. How do we know? Because the Patriots drafted him and that’s the default position because Bill fcked us or some other BS because Tom chose to leave.
Because I have eyeballs. I'm sure Zappe has some good qualities... intelligence, quick leaner, poise... maybe on all of those. He's articulate. However, arm strength is not one of his assets. Maybe he can compensate with some of his other attributes, I don't know for sure, but we're likely to find out for at least one more week.

You're choosing Winston as your counterexample? Why not just pick any strong-armed quarterback who sucked... Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, etc. There are plenty. There are also plenty of quarterbacks with strong arms who have been enormously successful... Marino, Elway, Favre (until he wasn't). Look at some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today... Allen, Mahomes, Herbert, Watson, Rodgers... all have elite arm strength. And there are many more with above average arm strength who are at least very good. How many quarterbacks in the NFL today who have below average arm strength are you ranking in the top 10?

Brady’s never thrown further than 47ish yards through the air, but his arm is magical. Mac’s thrown just as far but he’s weak. And pointing that out is comparing Mac to Tom…. lol.

So the 50 yard throw (all air yards) he made at the combine… that was what… an optical illusion?

Because Winston led the entire NFL in passing yards in 2019, the year before Tom adopted his weapons. He can’t help but turn the ball over. Mac entering last weekend had the 11th most passing yards in the league despite his offense running the 22nd fewest plays. Throwing the ball downfield hasn’t been a problem, making 2-3 bone head plays a game has been. Each of his interceptions came within 25 yards… arm strength was not the issue, decision making was.

With this Mac v Brady air yards talk does the pass have to be completed to count? Reason I’m asking is due to that almost completion to Moss in the SB which traveled somewhere close to 65 air yards.

Once again why do people thing the end all be all for arm strength is throwing as far down the field as you can? Velocity = arm strength.

Velocity=arm strength=distance.

I hope that’s a joke. Brady threw it anywhere from 68-71 yards in the air on second to last play in Super Bowl 2007 to Moss taking into account the cross field angle of throw

I think almost everyone of these guys can wind up and launch the ball 50 yards down field. Where I think arm strength truly matters is the out routes and tight windows in the middle of the field. Mac has thrown a few out routes that made me pretty nervous with how long the ball took to get out there. Noodle arm one of those and it is a pick 6 waiting to happen.

Exactly. A 50 yard bomb is not as impressive as a 20 yard out bullet. Arm strength makes all the difference on those throws.

Can we get back to bashing Lamar please? @BaconGrundleCandy may be one of my favorite posters on Patsfans, but I want him to blow a gasket and get sloppy on his betting so my Casino cleans up!

The last noodle arm I remember playing was Chad Pennington, and when he became available at the end of 2007 I was hoping the Pats would scoop him up as a backup. But he wanted to play instead of being behind Brady. Had he come here he could have replaced Brady in 2008.

Isn't your casino already cleaning up? That's what they do.

Anyway, impressed or not, a player with a stronger arm can throw it longer. It's simple science. Wanna make a bet? :)

I always want to make a bet! Lamar's Wonderlic score. O/U 6.5

You think lol?????

Outside looking in, theres no way you cant think certain people are freaks. This thread is a perfect example. It's like listening to your old relative talk that's outdated by decades.

Watson is 1-2 in the playoffs and was terrible in one of those starts.

So you think my long well thought out reasoning above is hiding my latent racism... even though I refer to multiple other black QB's as being among the best in the league. I guess reasoning and logic aren't in your skillset either. Some real mouth breathing going on here.
Watson is 1-2 in the playoffs and was terrible in one of those starts.
Watson led the NFL in passing yards the last time he played, he regularly has been near tops among passing attempts... how close has LJ come to doing either of those things?

One of these things is not like the other... here's a hint, it's not skin color.

Deshaun Watson career playoff totals: 1-2 Record, 80-126, 63% completions, 870 yards, 4 TD's, 1 INT, 91 QB Ranking, 1 Fumble

Lamar's career playoff totals: 1-3 Record, 56% Completions, 3td's/5 INT's, 6.62 Yards Per Passing Attempt, 19 Sacks, 68.3 QB Rating... and oh yeah, 5 Fumbles.

Keeping in mind Watson dragged one of the worst teams and offensive lines to the playoffs. Jackson annually has been on one of the best teams in the AFC, a team and coach who won rings before he arrived. But yeah... similar.
