He actually wasn't that great last year, despite making the Pro Bowl. Although Dugger was better statistically than Winfield, he doesn't cover as much ground as Winfield has to. But even if you were comparing NE's starting SS in Phillips to Winfield, Phillips was better in coverage statistically. In fact, Winfield gave up more yards in 13 games then Phillips did in 17 games. QB rating when thrown at Phillips was a 68. Winfield was a 92. Tampa's secondary blows.

Agree with you. Having said that, Philips was not good last week. Mark Andrews abused him in 1 on 1 in the 2nd half. Dugger would have been a lot better.

McCourty looked terrible giving up that TD as well. Awful awareness.

Dugger is a Strong Safety, Winfield is a Free Safety. By definition, FS cover better than SS. Winfield is not at the line of scrimmage taking on guards and shooting gaps. Two different players at two different positions.

Yes agreed. Duggar is not great in coverage but better this year. He is better than Philips or McCourty covering TEs at this point IMO. Not as good as peak Patrick Chung (2nd stint).

Just looked it up....tomorrow's game is only Kraft and Belichick's 3rd game and the Patriots' 5th game as a franchise @ Lambeau.

We played @ Lambeau in:

2014 - Frustrating loss with Gronk dropping a TD near the end of the game. Great game/season though.

2006 - We blew them out 35-0 in a game Favre started and Rodgers came off the bench to mop up.

1988 - We lost 45-3 with Flutie and Grogan throwing interceptions all over the place.....I vaguely remember this game.

1979 - We lost there badly too with Grogan at QB. I don't remember this game. Too young then.

Leigh Bodden was a CB and was good, he simply got injured and his career was over. Duggar is a strong safety, he rarely plays man coverage on anyone.

That we have to discuss whether Duggar is good or not here only highlights how absurd this place can be.

They got a good long look at Cannon on their practice squad. His big concern was health, if healthy he can probably play as well as he ever could.

He's always been bad when isolated on a WR/TE. Aside from the injury to Chung in 2012, this was one of the reasons he was moved FS. Ditto with Malcolm Jenkins and Tebucky Jones.

To me that was the most depressing thing about last weeks loss. You knew where Lamar was going and we couldn’t stop it.

He had perfect coverage on Mark Andrews in the end zone, Andrews just made a hell of a physical play. That's the NFL.

To me that was the most depressing thing about last weeks loss. You knew where Lamar was going and we couldn’t stop it.

If you turn it over four times to Lamar Jackson and that Baltimore offense you deserve to lose. If your pass rusher's lose contain, you will lose.

They way to beat Baltimore is to build a lead, 14 points by the second quarter and force him to pass.

The Pats did as they have done all year, they beat themselves with mistakes.
