What guarantees do we have we would have won had Bourne played? None.

We turned the ball over three times and made a few untimely mistakes. Beyond that the offense moved the ball pretty well.
Yeah but I also understand Bourne is the most dynamic offensive player we have. We will never know one way or the other.

Gross Overpay

patriots head WR scout should be fired
Given the way players are paid in this league, 50 catches for 500 yards = $10m. It's the going rate. Not an overpay.

I can think of three situations where Bill decided to punish a player by sitting him out. If there's more that I missed feel free to add them.
1) Welker for his foot jokes.
2) Butler in the SB.
3) Bourne last week.
The Pats lost all three games and it can be argued that those surprise moves had an impact on the team.
There's been several more. Adalius Thomas is another. They sent Randy Moss away after he insulted a corporate bigwig at a dinner.

People keep talking about the losses but how do you account for team discipline and its impact on the wins?

If the other WRs saw what Bourne did after Agholor's fumble, when Jonnu Smith had to talk to him to calm him down, how do you think the other WRs would respond?

Rumor has it that Parker is Patricia's guy and it's his way or the highway. They may move on and move Bourne.
Don't we all understand that blaming this on Patricia is missing the mark?

This is BB's team. He chose Patricia.

Bourne being mad at Patricia--if that's what people are saying--is the same as Bourne questioning Belichick's football strategy.

If rumors are true that Bourne was upset at the direction Patricia is going, then he was questioning Belichick's new strategy.

and we're surprised this went over like a lead balloon with BB?

Dont mind him He stupid

Yes, I was aware of Kirk's contract since he was one of the first WRs signed. BTW, Kirk had 117 receiving yards last week.

Pretty much everyone was excited that last years skilled player FAs (Henry, Jonnu, Bourne, Agholor) should have a bump in efficiency this season along with 2nd year improvements by Mac.

Looking at the top 6 receivers (WR, TE, RB) last season, Bourne was:

Receiving %: #1 (79%)
Receptions: #2
Targets: #3
Receiving Yards: #2 (14.5)
YDS/Gm: #2
YDS/Rec: #1
YAC: #2
TDs: #2
FD: #3

NVM about his efficiency stats with Mac which were top of the league.

I get that we brought in Parker to be WR#1 and he needs to play to develop chemistry with Mac, but limiting Bourne to 2 snaps is fking insane. I guaran-fking-tee you that the players were not onboard with this decision. It was stupid.
As I've said, I like Bourne a lot. But he's not a #1 receiver, nor the kind of guy you put up with very long when he's corroding the team goals.

He's not Antonio Brown or Randy Moss, and look what happened to them.

We get it. You should be the one picking the OC. The guy who has been GM/HC since 2000, has eight rings, and is being paid $millions to make such decisions can't judge talent better than you can from the couch in your living room.

You are standing on a cloud of supposition from Tom Curran. We don't know who decided on the Bourne discipline. Tom Curran says he doesn't know. Yet you know exactly what went down.
Thank you, Agreed, I’d pick a much better OC. I can judge many things very well from my couch. Aside from that, im Curious how your going to defend the dumpster fire mid season.
ill GLADLY be wrong, but the view from my couch is telling me different.

Are people in this thread really arguing Nelly wasn’t a huge overpay lol?

Supreme Allied Commander?
Planned and led largest amphibious assault in history?
President who got the Interstate System in place?
Ordered the largest mass deportation operation in US history?

Defining the "thing" of which you speak might help with contextualizing your point.
The best thing that Ike did was demand that pictures of the holocaust be taken and that residents of the areas be walked around nearby to see the damage that had been done. Many of them wept. Ike's reasoning was that he wanted proof because he thought that someday people would try to say that it didn't happen. He was spot on there.

Didn't welker only get sat for a half, as well? I could be remembering wrong.
It was only a series or two but it was a surprise to the players and could have put them in the wrong place mentally. Just a few weeks earlier they had destroyed the Jets and this time they played awful.

The OL's protection ability has really shown this to be a stellar idea if they want to get their QB killed.
If the Pats let that stuff happen against Pitt then they probably won't be as nice as the Fins.

Btw, it's nice to see that Watt isn't playing. That guy is a one man wrecking crew.

People warned me that once the Patriots started being mere mortals again that this would happen, I don't know why I'm surprised BB is being raked over the coals. Although I have to say it is probably best for the team, because it buys the young core more time to develop without the added scrutiny. Is this part of the plan? Is BB still playing chess?

I expected it.

It's not only the fans in the early 30 who are completely oblivious to what ALL other NFL teams encounter on down cycles. It's also that many of the older fans who lived through the pre-Belichick years have been spoiled by Brady and Belichick.

They really don't know what bad coaching is anymore.

We've had lots of people wanting to move on from Brady of 2019, or from McDaniels, and now Belichick.

Well the replacements were Cam Newton, our former DC, and probably a guy like Eric Bienemy.

They don't realize that the drop is huge.

Like Josh Uche, the second-rounder?

I expect that most people who are suggesting that Belichick could/should be moved on from are doing so because of reasons that aren't about actual coaching.

Not if Mac can do this out of a shotgun spread formation. Easy peasy.

Thanks for the reasoned response.

I honestly don't know what happened between Bourne, Agholor and Smith. Was that during the game?
