What is your confidence of the Offensive play calling before start of season?

60% confident with Jimmy at QB.

40% with Mac back there.

Patricia is now the least of my concerns. If the line can't run block, they will see many 3rd and longs which defenses will tee off on. Their horrible passing blocking against 2nd stringers the other night was scary.

Even though they are pre-season games and not all 1st-stringers, still not convinced Matt can do the job...
What did you not like about his play calling in preseason games. You do understand they don’t game plan for preseason fames and use them to test plays and players right?

Perhaps this is what you meant, but to me playcalling isn't the issue here. It's the fact that the OL isn't opening enough holes for the RBs, and is inconsistent in pass protection. I do think the first sack on Mac last night was his fault, stepping into the defender, but part of that is his lack of confidence/rhythm with his pocket right now, so you could send the blame either way if you like.

Fact is, you could call the best play in the world and if the OL doesn't block it, it's going to look terrible. So playcalling? I'm fine. But I need to see more improvement in the OL in the regular season, and (at least by title) that IS Patricia's responsibility.
I think it would be interesting to take a deep dive into this.
“The OL isn’t opening holes”. I just rewatched them started play, and I didn’t really see that. I saw one stretch play that would be audibled out of when playing for real (there were more defenders that blockers) and another where Montgomery was the RB which we can hope never really happens, and just couldn’t pick a lane and ran to the boundary. Otherwise the run blocking as fine.

Mac is my top concern.

If the offense cant sustain drives then the defense will be on the field so much that they will be burned out.

If this team can flip the switch and be competitive, I will be very impressed after
How pitiful they looked in camp & preseason.

I love Belichick, but this may be a long season. The way he has drafted & handled his staff “no coordinators”, would probably
Put other coaches on thin ice.

This is the first year in 20 years that I am afraid we won’t be a 500 team

IMO their is less then zero percent chance the offensive line will be practicing wide-zone blocking during the regular season. I have to be honest…I’m surprised at so many thinking this will continue.

Does anyone here really think BB will continue with ZB full-time ? Are you assuming he wants to lose ?

Play calling? This has yet to be seen.
They will do it, maybe frequently. The thing people need to understand about that scheme is it is more of a boom or bust scheme than man blocking.
The concept is to run laterally and find a hole. If the hole doesn’t materialize you will have a negative play, much more often than if you run North/South but you have a greater chance to create a seam in the edge and pop a long run.
Bailing on outside zone runs because they more frequently produce negative plays, is simply not understanding the concepts.

He's #2 on my list. He hasn't looked good when he's had time to throw and doing what he did last year going straight for the shortest route.

I am sure on this Board the conclusion can only be that Josh is gone, so therefore the playcalling is solved.

Wait, I thought it was impossible to worse at this than Josh...

Obviously you must have been watching video from a prior year, or smoking the
Wacky Tobacky.

The OL has been terrible & although our 1st round pick looks athletic, I have yet to see him look good “actually blocking”.

I guess when you draft a 3rd round prospect in round#1, we need to wait for
Him to learn to block

I'm not overly concerned. I feel that we were working with fools gold the last few seasons. We beat up weak teams and crumbled against legit competition. We may have a worse record this year, but I feel that by the end of the year no one would stomp us the way the Bills did in the playoffs.

I've tempered my expectations and just want a scrappy team with a legit shot at a wild card spot.

that's Coach Bill's record in NE without Brady. it's .500 if you include the playoff drubbing last year. The offensive play calling will not matter because the #s speak for themselves, without Brady Coach Bill's teams are mediocre at best. With the juggernauts in the AFC it will take a ton of luck for this club to sniff the playoffs. Add in Coach Bill's Cleveland record and he's way below .500 as a career coach without Brady.
Bill is more comfortable having loyal yes men like Judge and Patricia than having innovation and new blood....

They will not do it requently.
I think it will depend on the opposition, how susceptible they are, Mike Shanahan used to kill the Patriots with their zone blocking, at least it used to make me swear often.

Identify the plays.

Oh, never mind, you are that guy who soews negativity without any basis for it.

After being saddled with Bledsoe (and a crap roster) that record is 31-22.
That is with:
A QB who hadn’t started a game since HS.
2 backup QBs who had never started an NFL game.
Legarm Newton
A rookie QB.

So if we just all recognize Newton was a joke, since Bledsoe went down, BB us 24-13 with 4 Qbs who had never started an NFL game before, not to mention all he did with the first guy who replaced Bledsoe.

Seems your take is crap.

My # 2 is MAC10.
