I am a glass half-full and a “in Bill I trust” guy when is comes to the Pats but I am officially concerned. If they can figure out the OL I think that they should be fine but the line is a hot mess right now.
Unless Thornton breaks the “curse,” team speed on that side of the ball is also a problem.

My worry is they don't have the talent on defense. I'm fine with the offense and think it will only improve and be better from the one that scored 27.2 points a game last year.

The defense though is woefully lacking in talent. Pass rush, run defense, LBs, CBs. I don't see it. We're good at safety and that is all.

I'm really much less worried about the offense.

AND--we've look vanilla and bad in previous preseason games over the years. Big worry for me is still the defense. Some huge gains through the air by the Raiders B team yesterday

It’s hard to argue in terms of names about the talent in defense. They are turning over the defensive roster and they have never been a team consistently picking in the top 10 year after year, so big names can be hard to come by. However, it was obvious going down the stretch last season that the defense was too old, too slow, not athletic enough, and running out of gas. Belichick responded to that be getting rid of many of those players, and although they likely wanted to keep J.C. Jackson his price tag was simply too high to keep him. All this said I like the look of this defense. They still need a few more pieces but overall they look ore athletic and faster than last season’s defense did. It will take time for them to gel as a unit but I think this will be a good defense when all is said and done,

After camp and preseason, I've more or less come back to my original opinion of the team I had going into late July. They're not going to be as good as they were last year because there was just too much loss without adequate replacement. On defense, it's the talent (particularly at ILB and CB). On offense, it's the coaching. Lack of continuity with coaching has ruined many promising QBs over time, and it would be a shame if that happened under BB.

I just looked through the schedule and my prediction for now is 8-9.

Stidham looked more poised confident in his offense and better arm than Max.
I’d love to know why we traded him for a bag of used footballs again?

Their is a small part of me hoping that Bill is making the offense look bad and Mac showing frustration on purpose.
And bill walked in that locker room and goes ok everyone thinks we’re a mess but we are going to show Miami what is what On Sunday.

Because Stidham sucks.

Yep. They just love to wallow in misery.
Also nice to see all the Patriots/BB apologists out in force as well. We just need a little more practice is all, right? Assume many will disappear from this board when the Pats make Tua look like the second coming and can’t force a single punt out of the Bills in two games only to resurface at the end of the season and explain it all away and start the apology tour all over again.

Okay…what are we apologizing for, exactly?

The major take away for me

- I said this before, a while ago - We need a dedicated position coach for the offensive line... While there may be consternation regarding Matt Patricia calling the offensive plays, I think that is overblown... What I see as a major issue now and going forward - Matt Patricia doing two jobs - calling the plays and coaching the offensive line... Way too much to do for one guy... we need a separate offensive line coach not named Matt Patricia... one who can dedicate time and energy to the position group... If Matt wants to be the offensive coordinator, then he should be the offensive coordinator and deal with that, only...

- its time to put aside the Outside zone blocking scheme, at least for now... Its not working correctly... until it does work correctly, then it should be left for practice only until it can be installed correctly and effectively...

3 starter hurt. Meyers, Thorton and Ty Montgomery in the preseason, yikesl!

I don't understand what a "Patriots/BB apologist" is. Yes, there are people posting on a Patriots fan forum being hopeful that things will turn around in a positive direction. If this bothers you, I'm sorry (is this the "apologist" part?)

I have trouble coming up with a 5 - 5 record before the BYE.

Folks are underestimating Pittsburgh and Chicago.

More testing on Montgomery doesnt sound good.

JJ Taylor come on down though. Give this guy a real chance out there. I believe that people will be pleasantly surprised.

GFY

Great job blowing that game to the Chefs last year.
It was obvious to me that the poster was kidding.

As for blowing the game vs KC, if you remember correctly the Pats were in the same situation in KC and did the exact same thing as the Bills. The difference was that the Pats won the toss and marched down the field for the win. KC won the toss vs the Bills.

The Pats are still very deep at WR if Meyers cant go for awhile.

Bourne could slide right in.

It was specified as an ankle injury, hopefully not season ending.

Really want to know what happened with Meyers, but he was seen on the bike later so again, hopeful.

The nice thing about Montgomery is his prior NFL experience. JJ Taylor has so little, but like credit, you dont get credit unless you have credit.

The first couple times I saw the agologist comment...I thought I missed part of the conversation because I didn't understand the meaning or missed some context. Then I tried to find who was apologizing for what. I lost valuable life minutes trying to figure this out.

As far as I can tell, an "apologist" in this context is considered "anyone who thinks Bill Belichick will find any success in the future." I am not sure how that is tied to an apology.
