OT: Baker traded to Panthers

There was no way baker was going to play for them... If he got hurt they'd be on the hook for a lot of money... And next year when Watsons contract really kicks in, it's untenable under the cap
Unless you're the Rams

Browns did the right thing. They already made their decision they didn't want him when they signed Watson.
The Browns are hugely desperate to have:
  • given up the cash and draft assets they gave up for the new guy
  • broken the NFL unspoken rule about not guaranteeing contracts,
  • pissed off the fans that still liked Baker because the Browns drafted him high and pumped him up
  • pissed off the fans who don't want a serial sexual predator as their new QB
  • taken on the risk that he very well could offend again
  • to deal with him missing at least a few games if not an entire season
  • to pay a large part of Baker's salary to him while he's playing for a different team.
Personally, I think the odds are good that one or more of these things will blow up in their faces.

Personally, I feel it will turn out to have been anything but the right thing.

Time will tell...

The top 2 INT throwers since 2018 are Mayfield and Darnold. Matt Corral must not be too worried.
What's hilarious is NFL's draft comp for Corral is Baker! So, who knows.

Baker yielded a 5th. Funny how some posters believe Harry will yield anything more than a future 7th.

I can’t believe they yielded a 5th. Were there even any suitors for him? He may be ok there but don’t see any reason why to give up any valuable draft picks other than a 7th for him. As far as I know there were no takers.

baker must be pumped to have been traded away from the Cleveland RSOs

I'm kinda surprised that the Browns did this considering Watson's situation.. Rumors of 1yr+ for the suspension continue to swirl.
The reality is that Baker was never playing for them again. They burned that bridge and even with Watson being suspended he wasn't risking his health for a franchise that called him a child and cast him aside for a dude with 44 sexual assault allegations. He pretty much said the relationship was broken.

It's a conditional 5th and he's pretty cheap for a non rookie QB you intend to start. It's basically a season long try out and if he really is bad, they can try to cut himand avoid paying the 5th.

Wonder if his Progressive endorsements will follow him to Charlotte??

Perhaps they have a tad more intelligence in that city than to show him cleaning a stadium. Stay tuned.

A conditional 5th, ouch!!!

Baker only getting a 5th in return is just a function of timing and the desire of the browns to dump him regardless of the return... Any other scenario he probably nets a higher return...

I don't think Harry will yield anything on the trade market... Why trade any pick for a likely cut? Its not like teams need a receiver who's better at blocking than receiving...

Baker's contract ( $18 mil, 1 year all guaranteed) was the reason his trade compensation was so low. Cleveland even had to eat a good portion of it. Imagine if the Pats had picked up Harry's fifth year option and he was set to make $12 mil guaranteed this year. You would not be able to trade him for a bag of beanstalk beans!

Harry is in the last year of his rookie deal, I doubt anyone is going to trade for him. The only way I see him moving is a Winovich like trade, where he is moved for some other teams overpaid unproductive player in hopes that the old "change of scenery" theory works.

As the old saying goes, when you have two QBs you have no QB.
I suspect CAR will figure out who they think is better, Darnit or Baker, and let the other one go via trade or cut.
Having two different young QBs with meaningful NFL starter time on the roster often is a problem.

Is there any thread on the forum that doesn't turn into a conversation about Harry?
Even the Celtics forum is suggesting he could be the back up center they need.

What's Robbie Anderson's problem? He seriously prefers Darnold?

listening to what Mayfield said earlier this week or last….HE was done. Not sure they had a choice
Mayfield claimed that he had moved on and in the next breath said that the Browns door was still open but that he had no recent contact with the franchise. The Browns would need to reach out to Mayfield first for him to possibly go back. Thats all over google.

The Browns waited to hear just how bad Watson will get dinged suspension wise. The Browns moved Mayfield only when they were comfortable to do so. Otherwise, why wait all these months to trade the very 1st pick in the 2018 draft for a conditional 5th and eat some of his contract too? The Browns look like bozos the way this whole Watson deal went down. They should have moved Mayfield months ago, but could not pending Watsons legal issues.

Regarding Watson, he better not get a harsh sentence. There will be a player revolt and the race card will be played. White Bob Kraft was criminally charged and he walked a free man because the evidence was tossed out. Watson was not charged and pleading the 5th leaves no evidence of guilt.

When Baker is on he is lights out good.
