Training camp will be interesting to sort out the backups.

I have worries about Trent Brown making it through a season. And many of us don’t know what to expect from an inconsistent Wynn.

Can that undrafted kid make the 53 as the backup center. How will the Canadian, Desjarless, er, Desjarlaid, er, never mind do jumping to the big leagues? Can Cajuste put it together? He certainly has the tools. Will Strange’s toughness and aggression make the unit play better? Will a veteran as many of us suspect be brought in? How will the line be reshuffled if a tackle goes down? Could Strange be plugged into tackle?

I have the same worries about TB77... however, his new deal did include a weight & playing time clause... so the team is aware of the potential of an injury issue (obviously) and have at least taken steps towards trying to manage the situation... I dont know if its structure is unusual - per the pft article:

He also gets $150,000 is he checks in at 385 or less on the first day of the offseason program. He gets $75,000 for being 375 or less on June 1. He gets $75,000 for being 365 or less on July 16. It adds up to $750,000 per year, over the next two seasons.

Brown also has major playing-time incentives. He gets $500,000 for participating in 65 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. He gets another $500,000 at 70 percent. He gets another $750,000 for 75 percent, another $750,000 for 80 percent, another $750,000 for 85 percent, and another $750,000 for 90 percent. He gets another $500,000 for 95 percent or making it to the Pro Bowl on the original ballot."

That's a lot of money tied to weight & playing time incentives... hope it helps keep him on the field

There are those who think that Onwenu is a pro bowl quality RT. I think that almost all of those folks post on message boards. Herron played RT more than Onwenu last year, reflecting that the staff does NOT consider Onwenu as a top OT.

I think that we posters greatly over-rate late rounders and UDFA's. Some make the team, most do not. I think that it would be a major coup for Hines to make the team as a backup OG and emergency backup center.

ROSTER ISSUES
OT (4)
We need four. Cajuste and Herron are an inexpensive two veterans. Brown is a lock. If Wynn goes, we need a 4th. Personally, I don't think that Onwenu is a starting RT. I certainly hope that I am wrong. I still have visions of Onwenu-Brown on the right side, blocking the sun as folks run behind them. I could see us trading Wynn AND trading for a LT.

IOL (3 starters)
We have Andrews and Strange. The other obvious choice to start is Onwenu. I don't see a rookie starting. We could sign or trade for an OG if Onwenu is the starting RT.
I
OL BACKUPS (2)
This must include a backup center who can play a lot if Andrews is out. Both would be expected to active, unless we don't have a swing OT that can backup both RT and LT in which case an active IOL backup would need to be able to backup bot OC and OG (Ferentz has be Belichick's choice for a couple of years).

I would wait as late as absolutely possible before trading Wynn, just in case of last-minute injuries...

Don't think that Herron would be an effective Right-side backup; he looks to be strictly a Left-side one...

Onwenu might be an even better RG than RT, especially if he has somebody decent next to him... I'm looking forward to seeing him there as a bigger, more powerful & less ex-pensive version of Shack Mason; besides, Hines & Steuber have to actually get on the field before we start thinking of ass-igning them lockers without a piece of tape as a nameplate.

Are you asking whether he can unseat Ferentz? I don't think that there are any other establish backups for the 2 IOL backup positions.

I really hope he doesn't but I think Wynn is going to get hurt at RT before the season starts.

Yes Herron and Cajuste are better at LT...they should never be at RT...agree.

I think Onwenu has a chance to become an excellent RG, especially if he has just a decent RT next to him...

It was just a general comment in that Desjarlais has not been mentioned or forgotten about in the posts above as potentially being a back up. I believe he played mostly at left guard in the CFL.
