DRAFT Patriots select WR Tyquan Thornton at 50.

I've moved out the Brady debates. Let's try and keep this thread on topic, which includes @Wozzy and @crawhammer, who can continue their other debate in another thread.

How long before this skinny kid gets lit up and is out for a few games? Can he last a full season in the big leagues? This isn't Division 2....

What does Div II have to do with anything? I am lost with what you mean.

Sorry didn't know a crappy Baylor program was Division 1 FBS. I stand corrected. I don't trust BB's wide receiver choices. Been burned in the past.

Thornton is 6 2 181. Jameson Williams is 6 1 179. But if they'd gotten Williams you'd be slurping it up not crying about how much he weighs.

Fvkin Bourne crying about Tyquan's weight. Sheesh

I think Baylor is Big12, good conference, and I like that Thornton was loyal and stuck with the program even though the QB was poor. I like loyal people.

On film Thornton looks like more than a straight line speed guy and said all the right things, like "I need to get stronger". He sure looks skinny like KB said. We finally have some true speed and Parker is exciting too. And BB is trying to rebuild the offensive playbook, so I am excited to watch. Let's hope it is a good building year.

Hey Tyquan, let them take shots at you now about your size and shape. There was a guy here name Tom that they said was gangly and not fit. Just tell them to be ready when they watch you in the preseason. Oh, tell the little kids to buy your rookie card and stash it away.

Whatever you did worked. This thread has been fine. Thanks

Thanks

He seems be a likable guy. Hoping to hell it works out for the Pats and for TT.
However, the photos from OTA's just added fuel to the fire. There are some very big strong CB's and safeties in this league. They will be taking big time shots on him and trying to intimidate him.

He reminds me so much of a former Eagles WR named Todd Pinkston, who came into teh league at 6-2 and 174 pounds.
He had a couple of good (not great years) and became notorious for his alligator arms. DB's on defending teams quickly learned that they could physically dominate him.

Part of that is size but a lot is attitude. I’m encouraged TT is working on gaining strength. He knows what he needs to do and is doing it. If he competes more intensely than the DBs he’ll win battles.

Should be noted that pinkston played in an era where DBs were allowed to be more physical defending opposing wideouts.

This Bourne versus Meyers talk may all be for nothing, there's a distinct possibility Meyer's isn't even here this season considering he doesn't have a contract.

The two players are almost identical anyways, Bourne may be a shade faster, Meyers a shade better at route running... but they may as well be twins. The depth of talent at WR is great to have, but there's a redundancy there... especially if the young kids (Thornton, Wilkerson, Nixon) emerge in camp and preseason.

While the two players might be "almost identical" in terms of their size, arm length, weight, and even their 40, what I have observed is that Bourne plays faster than Jakobi. Meyers is a dependable slot guy. But Bourne showed he can line up in the slot or on the perimeter and have success. That's something Meyers really hasn't done reliably, imho. Also, Bourne seems to be a catalyst type player. When the Patriots got him involved early on, the team did excellent things.

Thornton is a young kid at 21. Wilkerson is 25. The same age as Meyers and just a year younger than Bourne. Nixon is a year younger than both Meyers and Wilkerson.

BTW, here are the RAS Comparison from Bourne to Meyers. I don't care about the grades. I printed it to compare their combine results.

Bourne has a better broad jump and 3 cone. Meyers had the better vertical and bench. I consider the 40s to be virtually identical.
