Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Bill going Full Belichick is getting slammed for the strange draft. Ranked worse or almost worse by pretty much everyone. Kraft must be livid.

Does "better a year too early than a year too late" only apply to players or 70 yo GM's as well?

This might be true but then it might not. I'm unsure how else it would be quantified beyond wins and losses which won't be happening 'til September. So many people here condemn Judge and Patricia as big liabilities without first allowing them to prove it in their current roles.
We’ll see. I can’t see how no OC and no QB coach and no experience on staff helps Mac’s development that much.

At least it wasn't a historic failure like Tommy Boy in Super Bowl 42. And as you know, it was the biggest game in NFL history.
There have been 56 Super Bowl losers

But only one time a defense has allowed the opponent to score a TD every single time they touched the ball.

Isn’t Bill supposed to be a defensive guru and Steve supposed to be an up and coming coach?

It was embarrassing, like watching the JETE.

Nothing against BB the coach but he's been declining as a GM for awhile.

Again from a Boston article:
"The age of second-guessing the Patriots and Bill Belichick at your own peril has been buried under an avalanche of bad drafts that stretches back to 2013."
This has also been my observation for a long time and many here are just starting to see it.

BB is still great at finding good UFA and late round players. But he has stunk drafting in the 1st and 2nd rounds for a long time now. And finding great players in FA has been taking a hit lately too.

I'm almost ready to put BB in one of the worst GM in the league list now. We'll see how the year goes. If no improvement, 2023 will be his last year as GM imo.
Drafted Mac and Barmore last year; Dugger the year before. This years crop we will find out. The Harry and joejuan draft was a disaster though.

"Strange" draft? Badly "ranked"? Kraft "livid"? Belichick on the hot seat? Man, you really are wishing with all your might. Elsewhere, the Patriots coaching staff has been condemned. All this gleeful doom-casting before one rookie suits up or a single down is played. What if none of this negativity pans out and the Patriots do well -- will you be disappointed?

Who cares? It's a wild card game against one of the best teams in the NFL. On the other hand, Tommy was awful in SB42 against one of the worst teams ever to win the super bowl.

Why do you believe they have no OC and no QB coach? Just because those titles haven't been attached to people and publicly announced doesn't mean nobody will run the offense or coach the quarterbacks. The Pats went all last season (and many past seasons) without officially naming a defensive coordinator either, that's just the way BB does things.

Tampa to play Seattle in Germany in week 11. No team that has played a regular season overseas game has won the super bowl the same year since 2007.

I think the mistake you make is that every fan base and even ownership is quick to hate the coach when losing becomes consistent.

Pete Carroll was hated in NE despite the fact he went to the playoffs multiple years and only had 1 losing season. He was successful here but got reviled. He was loved in Seattle but if Wilson ends up winning in Denver and the Seahawks lose Carroll will quickly be turned on.

Andy Reid was hated in Phil and now loved in KC.

Jim Harbaugh was in the hotseat before he got Lamar Jackson and Ozzie was canned elas GM even though he built the Ravens into a championship contending years for like 5 years straight.

As fans and owners we want wins now not past success. We also don't know anything about professional scouting so we tend to trust what so called experts on TV or in newspapers tell us about prospects.

In short, if Belicheck nailed this draft and the Pats go on to win the superbowl, everyone in this thread, aside from MacJones10, would be thrilled

And how did not having a DC labeled work out for the defense in playoffs against the Bills?

Who’s MacJones10?

NFL.com article below states the issue below. Essential, in round 1 and to a lesser degree round 2, you need to occasionally swing for the fences for a star player. BB keeps on swinging for unspectacular foot soldiers, and even that has failed such as with NKeal (he was never going to be a WR1,)

"After a respite in 2021, the 2022 Patriots class seems like it could be a return to the franchise’s struggles of the past decade when it comes to drafting players. This might come as a surprise given the team’s reputation, but New England hasn’t selected a first-team All-Pro on offense or defense since Rob Gronkowski in 2010, per NFL Research."

Bucs play Seahawks in Munich. Which is 6:30 am west coast time lmao

I made no mistake, I simply and attempting to bring a sense of reason to the discussion. The people you describe as haters are impatiently petulant and ignorant. Time and again in this thread specifically, posters have celebrated Patriots shortcomings and failures. Perhaps it's to feel self-satisfied over switching allegiance to Tampa Bay or out of spite for Brady not finishing his career in New England, or both. But to suggest everyone here would be thrilled to see New England win a title sans Brady doesn't fly, especially for those who've proclaimed being done with the NFL when Tom retires.

And how did not having a DC labeled work out for the defense in playoffs against the Bills?

Your question makes no sense. Do you think someone having a "label" would've made a difference? Lack of publicly acknowledged titles doesn't mean coaches weren't running the defense. As I said, the Patriots have done quite well in the past without assistant coaches in coordinator roles officially labeled as such.

The game in Germany is a "home" game for the Bucs. Wont matter though they should roll the Seahawks.

Great chance the Bucs end that drought this year. Right now they will be my preseason pick to win it all.

It is amazing how much more forward I am looking forward to the Bucs season than the Pats. What a terrible draft by Bill.
I can't watch when my teams are getting kicked to the curb. I had went to bed at half time in the SB against the Falcons and switched the channel at Bucs playoff game with the Rams. But was able to see the comeback in the 4th quarter.

Fortunately it has been few and far between.

Unfortunately for the Pats, with no star players on offense they will be in purgatory he'll at 7-10 to 10-7 for the foreseeable future. Not much to get excited for and no players on offense to stat watch.

Bucs are the team to watch in 2022 for another SB run and have record breakers in Gronk, Evans, and Brady. They should still be good in 2023 and maybe 2024. They'll have to tank and rebuild in 2025/2026, but maybe the Pat's will be a true contender by then.

Just like last year.... Next year you will predict the Dolphins to win it all.

Bucs may not even win their division with the Saints adding Olave, Penning, and Matthieu and effectively adding Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston. They are also playing a murderer's row of teams.
