Incredibly early and not relevant 53 man roster

We can just speculate,

However, I don't think that we need 4 TE's on the 53.

What do you think the advantages are of each? Or perhaps, we should sign a veteran blocking back instead of either?
Keene

He has 7 special teams snaps..

If you read his bio it’s clear he had a knack for playing FB in a sometimes violent manner. BB says no FB but that doesn’t mean a TE can’t fill-in.

Both those dratted TEs are bench warmers.

Isn’t second round Joeslow Williams still with the team? I’m not sure as he doesn’t play much.

I think an undrafted player makes the 53. Belichick goes out of his way to send out the message that hard work pays off.

My guess is the accomplished center with 60 career start who last played at Houston. Can’t remember his name.

The Patriots defense is a shadow of its former self. Offenses will have the ability to attack running or passing. Both are liabilities.

They have been yes. I agree its possible one of those 2 don't make the 53. Asasi is a better TE but Keene has played FB on occasion.

Cody Davis as a lock in just about every projection doesn't make sense to me. He hasn't shown anything special and I'd argue that our special teams haven't been great during his tenure here. Maybe that is a coincidence but still????

Apparently he makes a lot of special teams tackles. He's rated high in that area.

PFF claims he was the best special teams coverage player in the league last season.

Life is simple. Starters are locks unless they are replaced.

There were 5 players that played in 60% of special teams, plus we had the 4 specialists (P, K, LS and RET)
Slater returns
Bethel returns
Davis returns
King was replaced by Wilson as a STer
Bolden was replaced by Montgomery as a STer
---------------------------
Gunner (just under 50% of snaps) was replaced by M Jones as a STer.
---------------------------
There are several places where Belichick may acquire an upgrade. this may be one. For now, Davis a lock.

I underestimated Jack Jones' skills when I made my 53...he needs to be on there....somehow. Would be nice if he can play the outside...well.

I expect that Jack Jones will push Williams and Mitchell off the roster. 3rd rounders always make the 53.

So, opposite Mills, we likely have Butler and Jack Jones.

My question mark is the health of J Jones.

He was awful last year, I'd be very surprised if he were here this year. At least 2 of those blocked punts were directly on him.

You have used the traditional labeling of players. Given that Belichick considers Special Teamers as a somewhat separate unit, with starters, and perhaps backups, I suspect that we should consider roster spots for Special Teamers beyond the 3 specialists that you, and I, label as STers.

Last year we had
Slater
Bolden
Gunner
King
Bethel
Davis

This year's group seems to be
Slater
Montgomery
M Jones
Wilson
Bethel
Davis

M Jones and Wilson may save roster spots, since they are also legitimate backups. I would think that we should list 7 STer's including the specialists plus Slater, Montgomery, Bethel and Davis.

RB (4) D.Harris, R.Stevenson, P.Strong, T.Montgomery
WR (6) D.Parker, N.Agholor, K.Bourne, J.Meyers, T.Thornton, M.Slater
TE (4) J.Smith, H.Henry, D.Asiasi, D.Keene
C (2) D.Andrews, C.Hines
G (4) M.Onwenu, C.Strange, D.Desjarlais, W.Sherman
T (3) I.Wynn, T.Brown, Y.Cajuste
OFFENSE (24, which is one too many because we list 2 Sters as offensive players: Slater and Montgomery)
QB (3) M.Jones, B.Hoyer, B.Zappe
RB (4) D.Harris, R.Stevenson, P.Strong, White
WR (5) D.Parker, N.Agholor, K.Bourne, J.Meyers, T.Thornton
TE (3) J.Smith, H.Henry, D.Asiasi/D.Keene
C (2) D.Andrews, open
G (3) M.Onwenu, C.Strange, D.Desjarlais
T (4) I.Wynn, T.Brown, Herron, open

My gut says that we won't carry 4 WR's if White is healthy. 4 WR's, 2 TE's and White is more than enough targets. But the roster spot could come from an injury almost anywhere,
or from the 9th OL,
or the 3rd QB, or
from someone starting on IR or the PUP list (e.g. White)

I'm certainly fine with speculating, even this early. But, even for me, I have no clue with regard to the backup center or the 9th OL (if there even is a 9th OL).

DE (2) D.Wise, T.Flowers

OLB(4) M.Judon, J.Uche, A.Jennings, R.Perkins
CB (5) M.Butler, Jo.Jones, M.Jones, J.Mills, S.Wade
SS (2) K.Dugger, A.Phillips
FS (3) D.McCourty, J.Peppers
DEFENSE (23 plus 2 STers usually listed as Defensive players: Bethel and Cody Davis)

DL (6) L.Guy, C.Barmore, D.Godchaux, Wise, open, open
ILB(4) J.Bentley, R.McMillan, C.McGrone, M.Wilson
OLB(4) M.Judon, J.Uche/A.Jennings, R.Perkins, open
CB (5) M.Butler/Wade, Jo.Jones, M.Jones, J.Mills, J Jones
SS (2) K.Dugger, A.Phillips
FS (2) D.McCourty, J.Peppers

I really believe that the 5th DL, the 6th DL, and the 4th OLB roster spots are wide open.

MAJOR DIFFERENCES
OFFENSE
1) You have White on the PUP list rather than the roster
2) While we agree on 7 OL's, I have 2 openings, while you fill positions with Cajuste, Hussy and Durant (as part of your 10 OL's)
So, I have White instead of your 10th OL. I also acknowledge that we will likely have only 4 WR's.

3) I have top STer Bethel instead of a 6th CB.

Obviously, we are very close for May.

I have a hunch. This might be the year where no UDFA makes the 53 man roster. Breaks the trend.

I'm pulling for Liam Shanahan (or Anybody, really) to replace Ferentz permanently...

Keene is a TE. He can run block on occasion and I think that is the plan IMO...but he is a TE.

He also lined-up in the slot and in the backfield while at WV... I think the plan (hope/prayer) is that Keene and/or Assyassy can emerge as more of a Kyle Juszczyk/Ben Mason-type of weapon who can help disguise run/pass intentions...If so, then I still feel that there's room on the 53 for all 4.
