Imagine a 6’4” corner being able to stay with Tyreek Hill stride for stride down the sideline.

He is new to the position so his instincts are suspect. 2022 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Tariq Woolen - Prime Time Sports Talk
But a 4.26 40 (SloJuan Williams ran a 4.64.) and a 42” vertical are extremely compelling to teams.

BB must be getting all excited.

I don't know. I haven't watched much tape on him, if I'm being honest, but from what I did watch he looked like someone who did not like physical contact at all, avoiding blockers in the run game and half hearted tackling. I wonder if he could be more effective as a deep FS. He certainly has the athletic ability to cover the ground, although he could end up just being another Obi Melinfonwu.

Just a general question if someone could answer......

If (and a big if) the team is going more to zone and not man marking do you actually need a CB1
Does the zone defence mean you just need a load of CB2's.

or...you still need a CB1 so you can cover a WR1 if needed

Just wondering if the need for a cover CB1 is now less likely at pick 21

Thanks

At certain points during a game, CBs might be asked to switch from their zones into a man-based coverage, so they're going to have to be able to perform well during those moments too... And because I believe that it is easier for a good man-cover CB to switch to zone than it is for zone CBs to play man, you still need to have at least one good #1-caliber Outside man-coverage CB in the building regardless of your base coverage, which the Pats currently do Not have... Therefore, I also believe that we still need to leave Day 2 with one of those Alpha Outside CBs by our side.

I'd like to hear @BaconGrundleCandy take on Duke's Leonard Johnson. Kid had one slip, but otherwise looked really smooth in transitions..

Watching this, I was initially thinking DBs should have timed backwards 10yd runs. After a brief rabbit hole dive, I found that there's an entire subsport called RetroRunning that I wasn't aware of. Not sure where it stands among other races like Racewalking and WifeCarrying, though.

I'm a fan but not sure he's for us. See him in a system that primarily runs more zone and his man techniques are lacking. Tough player with little hesitation coming up in run support. Gives 100% effort but his technique and fundamentals are lacking on the los or staying with nuanced route runners. As you saw above very smooth easy mover but he doesn't have the juice to stay with NFL WR's in man.

One of biggest problems is letting a WR dictate and at times have plenty of room to work or start their stem / beginning of their route in man. He'll have to end up on the right team imo. Really good when he's using his eyes and instincts as opposed to hands and physical skills. He'll need a good coach / system in that regard to help him max out.

Is it me but doesn’t Trent McDuffie remind you of Ty Law?

If he’s there at 21, as he likely will be, how can the Patriots NOT make the pick?

McDuffie, Booth, Elam, Hill, Gordon, and McCreary. How do you know that McDuffie is that much better than the other guys? He is shorter, slower, and not as agile as some of the other guys (less athletic), so what makes you think he is a can't miss prospect? Because DraftWire says so?

I feel like Mcduffie is more of a round 2 guy.

Booth is still my 3rd rated corner in round 1. Just look at Booth's physicality in both phases of the game, coverage and run support.

McDuffie is a technician but he lacks the size and sheer physicality to match up well with the #1 WRs who currently proliferate the NFL. Just looks at the WR1s of the top teams in the postseason. That said I think there can be value to be had with a player like McDuffie, just not in round 1, where we'll be drafting.

"the LSU pro day has some significance as polarizing CB Derek Stingley is scheduled to run the 40 for the first time"

Coming this Wednesday (4/6). I think he'll run just under a 4.40

Honestly I don't think he needed to run a 40 and he'd still be the top corner taken. But yeah a 4.4 or better might just boost him into the top 5. I'm never against players running drills and measurements, but I see why their agents might tell them not to.

I was just quoting someone in the first sentence.
I think it would've been a bad look, especially of rumors he may be sliding down the draft board, if he didn't do ANY drills, if healthy. He hasn't played a full season since freshman year. He only played a couple of games last year. It would not look good if he also skipped all pre-draft drills after having "foot surgery". But he's cleared to do all drills and he's been preparing for a month so I hope he puts on a show just for some teams peace of mind. ICCL though as he's not dropping near 21.

Joshua Williams of Fayetteville is pretty intriguing. I think he might be a good FS in NFL, a potential long term McCourty replacement.

I agree, he might have a better future at free safety.

Feels like we are focusing on corners in rounds 3-5 unless McDuffie or Stingley falls. Seems to be a lot of smoke around Chase Lucas in particular. My personal favourite is Cam Taylor-Britt in the 3rd round.

At that part of the draft, I might be looking to see if Zion McCollum, Jalyn Armor-Davis or Alontae Taylor are still available first...

I don’t see Taylor sticking at corner. He might make more sense at safety.

What about Dax Hill? Does he have a future at Outside CB (which we Do need), or is he strictly a Big Slot/Free Safety (which we Don't need)?
