CB/PTP thread. This is a position I could see getting some serious attention next year. Whether it's early or late, times almost up on the current contracts, so it's happening imo.

I see 5 potential first round prospects, definitely 7-8 top 50 prospects. The athleticism of this group stands out. And the size - length. I'm still amazed at that it's normal to see 6'/200 + with silly athleticism. There are some really good prospects in the 1 - 2B range/tiers. Really good. Top heavy and deep. If you're looking for potential CB1 there are a handful in this class. I'll keep adding as usual but this is a decent rough start.

How I graded the position ...

Derek Stingley might be a top 10-15 pick. Reminds me of Gilmore in so many ways. You can drop both in any system and not have a worry. Bloodlines to our Stingley.

+ ball skills and tracking ability. Center fielder type ability in terms of feel for spacing around him, flight pattern, catch point & ball skills.

Smart player that has made a few mistakes on the big stage but is extremely aware, adapt and in control both physically and mentally most of the time.
Understanding for angles, when to break and make a play, bait etc in top notch. Very heady player for the most part. You see it when the ball is up for grabs. Don't try him on fades, back shoulder, sidelines. Again great understanding for where he is. When and how to use his surroundings.

Just silky smooth in everything he does. His footwork, hips-transition, stop/start ... Incredibly smooth prospect in his movements.
Footwork is top tier. Efficient-clean, has some quick-twitch in him and his ability to cover short areas is +.

Might be most dangerous is trail / off-man but can do it all mainly bc of his feet, instincts and ball skills. Great patience in man. He's bouncy, loose but square and balanced.

Again his smarts & instincts are a cut above what you normally see. He'll get caught, make a few mistakes - some might seem silly but he's a great prospect with a lot unlocked potential still.

Willing tackler with + closing speed.

Some ST value as a return man.

He's been perfecting his craft and I expect to see him have his best year. At times he'll make a silly mistake, have a brain cart here or there but he's so smart and his instincts are legit.

Could get a little stronger overall. Might have a tough time against > 200 lb WR's next level at the los. Could stand to gain a few lbs and get stronger up top. Noticeable in press at times.

Long speed is supposedly around 4.35-4.4. I'd love to see him have a great year and run that with a sun 7 3C and 36+ vert. Lol too much but that would lead to a lottery pick imo.

Rotational Player and Threatening Starter's Job
Chase Lucas should shoot up this board

Stingley is the best CB prospect I remember in a good while

Clark from Arkansas is interesting

Jobe looks like a solid CB2

Kendrick now at UGA

Kid from App State should be good too

After looking through more tape, I have to agree that stingley is the best corner in this draft by a lot!

However Gardner of cincy, might be that excellent press man corner we desperately need to replace Gilmore.

I would love to get stingley on this defense. I think he’s a guy that would immediately slide into Gilmore’s spot and if we are able to resign JC on the other side will solidify this secondary for awhile. I think he would be a good fit here cause it seems like he’s very willing to tackle and doesn’t shy away from it. Also I like the reports of him wanting to take on jamar chase in LSU practices everyday and wouldn’t switch off of him.
Now if we are out of range for him I think another corner that may fit in well is kair Elam from Florida. He’s long athletic and I think has a good amount of upside to get better.

Stingley had foot surgery this week and is moving on from college football to focus on recovery, rehab and the combine.

Gardner is a total eraser. Great length, still has room for another 5-7 lbs on his frame as well and he's already a big time effort player in the running game. He's moving up boards because he just shuts everyone down. He's the best prospect from the Group of Five in this class in my opinion.

I haven’t gotten to tape on him yet but do you think he’s better than stingley? I still have stingley above Elam right now.

I think their production will be similar, but I would take Stingley because of pedigree, explosiveness and versatility. I don't think Gardner will be able to handle the slot whereas Stingley can. But Gardner has a lot of length and he's really good at the LOS. Stingley is a little shorter and I think NFL WR will have an easier time getting into his chest and swimming/ripping through press coverage against him than Gardner.

With that said, Stingley is built like a brick **** house while Gardner needs to add a little more weight. They're both really solid in the running game and give good effort.

It's hard for me to believe Stingley is 195 lbs. He looks closer to 210, which makes me wonder if he might ultimately move to safety.

Unless Davis of Georgia or Leal of Texas a&m falls into our lap, ala Mac jones, then I think we can not go wrong with either wr metchie of Alabama or cb mccreary of auburn (depending on how they run).

metchie should develop into our number 1 receiver and has a great connection with Jones.

mccreary can play press man, man and zone equally well and he can start from day 1 next season.
