OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

People are assuming that ATL is trying to get the most or Ryan before his bonus is due and I'm sure that's the case, but I think the main priority is keeping him out of the division. If they release him to relieve their cap instead of waiting for a 3rd round pick or whatever from Indy, the Saints and Carolina can sign him. I think that's what is going on. Send him to Indy for a bag of peanuts and have them pay the bonus next week to keep him away from the Saints.

Perhaps the best move of the offseason for the Bucs. Exactly the type of smart cap move they needed…passing on Whitehead’s price and redundant skill set and getting a bargain on Ryan, who improves their terrible CB2 situation and adds versatility and depth as a safety option.
I agree. I still want to see them get a top corner though but not sure if it is in the budget. They really need a shut down guy.

One of the oddest (And impressive streaks):

Tom Brady...

2013: Loses in postseason to Denver
2014: Wins SB against Seattle
2015: Loses in postseason to Denver
2016: 28-3 SB comeback win
2017: Loses SB to Philadelphia
2018: Wins SB against Rams
2019: Loses in postseason to Titans
2020: Wins SB against KC
2021: Loses in postseason to Rams
2022: Must be a SB year?

I know this sounds weird. But is it possible this played a part in Brady coming back. This every two year SB win thing? If he doesn't win the SB this year, maybe he does retire for good? Not that I want him too.

I wouldn't bet against him. ;)

The more I think of it. And this might sound crazy. I believe one of Brady's finest games was in the 2015 loss. No he wasn't great. But what stood out is despite all the abuse he took that day. He was a near catch away from tying the game. I believe the two point conversion to Gronk. The deck was stacked against him in a hostile environment. And he almost sent it to OT.

Guys like Miller & Ware have commented that the respect for Brady grew even more after that game.

When looking at like that, better health and its possible Brady wins 8 Superbowls in 9 years while winning 6 straight with the Pats

I was there and it was hostile at the end. I was denied access to my seat after the Gronk TD and the 2 point conversation. They were very afraid.

The word on the street is that Watson is going to Atlanta and that if he was going to the Saints he would of done so already. This is bad for the Pats because Ryan will be available and I don't think they would trade him within the division to the Saints so he probably will end up with the Colts. Have to hope he goes to CLeveland where QBs go to die.

Think positive. By the time the Patriots could develop into a legitimate contender, Ryan will be aging out of the league.

It appears 2022 is a punt season like 2020. What a mess. I mean are we going to have an Oline?

2020 wasn't a punt season no matter what people in the main forum say. They were going to win until they realized how ridiculous that was and then they claimed they punted.

That is true. I wonder if he will be suspended and for how long. If he were to go to the Saints and the NFL were to give him like 8 games I bet they wouldn't schedule Saints vs TB until after that because it's a marquee game for their ratings. If he goes to ATL it doesn't matter.
I'm guessing about 8 games too. Plus he hasn't played football for 2 years. Plus Atlanta will have to give up a boatload of drafts and/or players. Plus probably will have a dead cap hit for trading Ryan. Plus they'll have to sign Watson for 40mil plus a year.

Overall, it's more about getting the QB of the future rather than helping the Falcon this year and next year.

Yes. I should have put "punt" in italicized to show the sarcasm. That being said, this year feels like a punt from the get go. It is still early but Kraft has tightened the purse strings this year. I don't blame him in a way as seeing the team get its doors blown off by Buffalo had to make him rethink things going forward. Then on top, look at how much talent has been added to the AFC, especially West. Holy cow. It will be struggle I think for us to finish even 10th in the conference.

Ya I don't know what's going on but I've heard the rumors. It sucks for BB if he was told not to spend but I would have to imagine that he was given SOME leeway and he just hasn't done much yet. Maybe they feel no matter what they do it isn't a SB this year so just wait it out another year or who knows. Is there anything they can do to make us think they can beat the top 5 teams in the AFC and make the SB? I don't think so. If Jones develops more maybe they can swing big next year.

#FSU announces that Gene Deckerhoff is retiring after the Noles' spring game. He said he'll finish his commitment to the #Bucs radio network "and who knows maybe broadcast another Super Bowl."

Brady personally called Gage

Russell Gage got a phone call from Tom Brady Monday night and thought it was a prank. “I was stuck between this is not real and this is not funny.” Says he has conversations with team “but this was like no other.” Gage was 3 years old when Brady started in the NFL.

The problem with waiting a year is that it often does take a year just to integrate new players into a system, unless you are already a SB contender and are just adding a piece to the puzzle. Unfortunately, I thing the Pats are missing more than just 1 or 2 pieces.

This.

Why would they spend $15m franchising a LG they let walk a year later if they were punting? o_O

I think clearly BB was expecting 2nd year Stidham to be similar to 1st year Mac Jones. Then with a good a defense and run game you compete for at least a wild card. And then maybe you get a lucky playoff run. Or at the very least you maintain your winning culture.

I don't know what happened to Stidham. Or I guess BB's evaluation of him.
