O/T: Daylight Savings Time

We are ruled by madmen and clowns.

The only thing is they already tried this DST permanent thing in the 70s and apparently everyone hated it so much that it didn’t last long. Like maybe a year or two. People didn’t like kids going to school in the dark all year.

It’s the era of change everything whether it’s a good idea or not.

Straight time is for farmers and the like, because their days are determined by sunlight and animals. Adjusted time is better for urban centers and most modern jobs. Not locking in to one time leads to a week or two of inconvenience and fatigue, but brings months of better aligned sunlight.

I mean, I agree, but I’m just saying this could well prove another unpopular attempt. I didn’t realize they had already tried this in the 70s, probably because I was a toddler then.

Yeah, I was trying to elaborate on your point. Sorry if it came off as something beyond that.

Interesting read... apparently we tried permanent daylight savings time back in the 70's... i don't remember this, but apparently it happened...

They are doing exactly the opposite of what medical experts recommend, which makes sense, because most of the people in DC are simpletons.

When they moved the day we change the clocks back in 2007 or whenever it was, it was a nightmare in IT. Everyone’s Blackberries were and hour off, edge routers stopped talking to others, Exchange servers appointments were an hour off. I had my own consulting business back then. I barely slept for two weeks trying to get to all my clients applying patches to systems and devices. It was 1000 times more disruptive than Y2K which was really much ado about nothing.

I don't see how having the sun come up at 4:30 in the morning is good for sleep.

Honestly Minnesota is far enough north that we are pretty well screwed no matter which time you pick.

You either have 9pm sundown or 4:30am sun up in the summer

And in the winter you either get 9am sun up or 4:30 sun down.

It is explained very clearly in the linked article.

I've always thought year-round standard time made the most sense, but that's just a personal thing.

I don't care what time they make permanent, as long as it leads to not having to adjust clocks etc anymore
