I think the new defenses are going to be heavy up front. You can already see the Patriots expend a lot of assets -- a premium -- on pass rushers. It hasn't worked out for us yet, but bringing in Judon, drafting Barmore, Uche, Jennings and Perkins, was done with the intent of causing havoc up frontI don't mean to bring up Brady again but... he was incredible that year. That’s not as much as I thought he would even get paid. Damn.
With the caveat that it's a matter of balance - sort of "we'll go 12 or 15 apy but not 20 (or 17)"I think the new defenses are going to be heavy up front. This is how the Patriots beat in the Rams in 2018, how the Bucs beat the Chiefs, and how both the Rams & Bengals made Stafford and Burrow look bad.
The Bengals play with 2 mediocre (or worse) CBs in Apple and the other guy (forget his name), but they cause trouble up front. They simply dont give these QBs enough time to take advantage of the mediocre CBs.
I see the Bills have similarly spent a huge amount of assets up front: Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, Lotululei, Epenesa, Basham, Harrison Phillips. One FA and 5 early draft picks on pass rushing. Hasn't entirely worked out for them either, but... the idea is the same
and a first round vertical threat. And something about the O line. And and and...Draft a first round cb... Just hope they address the run defense
Thought I read that LA is paying him 28 mil year 1.Bill could've had him for $17m franchise tag. For one year.
It's what he'll cost the Chargers this year anyway.
When you're talking $40 million in guarantees...I mean, taxes are not changing your lifestyle at that level. Federal taxes dwarf states taxes, and in pro-sports, taxes are divided by where you play the games.Everything extra JC got from the Chargers, is going to be lost to cali taxes and the general cost of living there (even for the wealthy)
To me it seems like JC just wanted to go to different pastures, as much as it was about the dollar amount.
You mean like what the Patriots did last year? Hmm...Trying to win while your starting QB is cheap? Hmm...
So it came down to a few more dollars now and a few more in the annuity.
Hes a very, very good CB.
...but hes not a Gilly 2018 level.
That's why Bill didn't stretch it.
Jones is their best corner, but he’s used against the opposing team’s quickest receiver.Who’s our #1 CB now? Mills? Scary
Bradberry a trade option? I’d take him.Who’s our #1 CB now? Mills? Scary
Yeah back pre-covid we knew they needed to hit 3-4 drafts in a row with major startersand a first round vertical threat. And something about the O line. And and and...
Also all of them need to rush the quarterback
