I strongly disagree with those who think that Agholor isn't worth that.
It isn't whether he is worth it. It is whether they can get more value with that money. And he is counting $15 million against the cap this year, not $5 million. He isn't worth that.
But say the Pats can trade Agholor for a seventh as you suggest which frees up $10 million worth of cap space. What if the Pats turn around and use that $10 million of cap space for a long term deal for Davante Adams or Chris Godwin? Who is worth more with that money? Agholor or Adams or Godwin. Again, signing either Adams or Godwin would only need about $8-10 million worth of cap space in 2022. Lesser top WRs free agents like Robinson will probably require even less cap space. Or they could use that $10 million to bolster the defense.
Agholor is an average receiver. $5-10 million in cap space for 2022 can get you a well above average to elite WR with proper cap structuring with the knowledge the new TV contracts kick in next year causing the cap to explode.
Now that said, I don't know if Belichick would even consider it. He has loved Agholor since he was a draft prospect and will probably want to give him another shot to prove he can be #1 WR and I seriously doubt he would ever pay the money for Adams or Godwin. My point is that if Belichick was inclined to trade Agholor and use the cap savings to sign a top free agent WR, he could. I just don't know if he ever would.
OK, I'm fine with trading Agholor and signing of Adams for $10M.
I don't know if I should laugh or get upset Agholor in the same sentence as a #1 WR.It isn't whether he is worth it. It is whether they can get more value with that money. And he is counting $15 million against the cap this year, not $5 million. He isn't worth that.

Oh, thanks for looking into that- I honestly wasn’t sure… that certainly takes away some of the appeal of that as an option.@Clieb - I saw a post where you floated the idea about using the transition tag because it would still allow the Patriots to get a Compensatory pick for Jackson.
That information is incorrect. I double checked with @Miguel and the player you use the Transition tag on does NOT count in the compensatory pick formula.
Keep in mind, you can only trade a franchised player AFTER he signs his franchise tender. So if he doesn’t sign u til camp opens, they can’t trade him.Why would the Pats wait until July to trade him? If they tag and trade him, he will likely be on a new team the first day of the new NFL year or shortly after that. Of course there is incentive to sign before then. JC Jackson wants the best deal he can get and that will be at the start of free agency, not after it is over and camp is about to start. If JC Jackson is on the Patriots roster come July, he is going to be a Patriot for 2022.
JC Jackson doesn't want to play for the franchise tag. If he is not signed to a long term deal by mid July, he has to play for the franchise tag number and no team is going to give the Pats value then. If Jackson knows the Pats want to sign and trade him, he will definitely push to get the trade done immediately before teams spend most of their free agent money and has to settle for the best deal offered rather than pitting teams against each other for his services.
JC Jackson will be gone from the Pats by the end of March or on the opening day roster in September. Those are really the only two options. And the Pats are not going to just let him walk in free agency because even if they don't want him, he has far more trade value than what the compensatory pick would be. If they tag and trade him, the Pats will have the option to get a 2022 pick. They may opt to take a 2023 pick to get more value though.
Keep in mind, you can only trade a franchised player AFTER he signs his franchise tender. So if he doesn’t sign u til camp opens, they can’t trade him.
This of course, gives the franchised player a lot of leverage on whom he gets traded to.
I like him, but I like his teammate Chris Olave more. He runs even smoother routes, and is more explosive. Best route runner in the draft, amazing hands and jumping ability/body control, and excellent speed. For you old timers, I see him as a bigger Lynn Swann, and he has some Lance Alworth in him.Garret Wilson runs smooth routes… would be nice!
The best option for the Pats is to find a way to keep Jackson with the Franchise tag in tow.
Trading puts NE right back in a Jimmy Baby scenario where the Pats have to accept what they can get because every NFL team knows that BB needs the cap space. Teams that want Jackson will just lowball and wait the Pats out. Try to keep Jackson for the 22 season and make a last ditch effort at a SB run.
That is why the Pats are most likely to tag and trade Jackson.
And Aghlor can be cut this offseason pretty easily.
Father, who played was a nut. There's a Carl Pickens clause I believe or used to be. Saban stopped recruiting him bc he saw what was happening and about to happen. Flipped last minute from Auburn to UG. Suspended a few times for dumb stuff. Dumb flags. Got into with his position coach. Opposing players get in his head too easy. This has been going on since HS.How about this kid? Needs to be less of a hothead on the field, but he's savvy enough to get a good NIL deal:
Bulldogs WR George Pickens inks NIL deal with Tom Brady
Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver George Pickens has inked his first NIL deal and it’s with one of the biggest names in the NFL. He’s one of four college football athletes to represent Tom Brady’s new campaign.www.audacy.com
4 Wrs I view as realistic early options: Olave, Burks, Williams and Dotson
If not then I'm fine taking a shot on skyy Moore, Slade Bolden or Phillips (UCLA)
Williams is the elite, deep WR of the group (another Waddle?), but his late-season ACL injury might sidline him for the 2022 season, or if the, say, Patriots, draft him, he will be forced onto the field before fully healed, have an short, lousy season, get re-injured, get demoralize and be villified by the fans, etc. He is a risky choice, but I suspect that some other team will nab him before the Patriots have a chance. If he is still on the board at 21, there will be a lot of teeth gnashing by the fans and maybe in in the Patriots HQ...and the Patriots will trade down, ha!
Actually they will trade down at some point, this I guarantee.
I'm all in on Skyy Moore. Our only chance of beginning to attempt to fill the holes throughout this roster is by trading down from 21 AND out of the 1st round Entirely (or at least no higher than 32) for Multiple extra picks; so we should fuggeddabout those top 4...
With an extra Day 2 pick I would absolutely consider Skyy Moore... Phillips is more of a late 3rd-/early 4th-round prospect for me this year; and Bolden is strictly a Priority UDFA.
