BGC 2022 WR/PTP Thread

The weird thing is that Burks looks so fast on the field. Plenty of players with a 4.5 have done well. Look up times for Cooper Kupp, Antonio Brown, Devante Adams, Keenan Allen, etc. Harry's problem isn't his 40 time. It's mental, not physical. He's still a big, strong, fast dude. He just doesn't use his explosiveness to his benefit. He's technically faster than Bourne or Meyers, but they make him look lumbering, confused, and out of place.

I'm still bitter about it. I liked him a decent amount in that draft, although not as much as McLaurin and Metcalf. Too bad.
Ok then. That's not where I was heading with my comment so why I didn't elaborate. My I should've inserted an eye roll emoji.

But if I had to look up 40 times I would have stopped at Jerry Rice.

Most small prospects don't translate no matter how dynamic or versatile they are.

Like @WaterfallJumper said that doesn't mean much. People should just get Harry out there head. Athleticism plays a huge part so does your makeup/dna, work ethic, play style and how you take to coaching matter just as much.

Harry was a very good college WR that didn't pan out but that doesn't mean we shouldn't go after those types bc one flamed out.
LOL...I guess it IS me and not you guys that missed my own joke.

Spoke to my wife who's a therapist, and she said it's going to take at least a decade to get over this N'Keal trauma.

Yea those are ****bums on the bench though. I'm a player Jim with a CB's mentality. I shook off Harry last year.

So, he's come in shorter than expected, with smaller hands than hyped, and now has run slower and jumped more poorly than Harry. Not the best day for Burks (although on the field he plays a lot faster/more fluid than Harry does). Does he drop out of the 1st with a 4.55?
His vertical wasn't as good, but his broad jump was the same. I don't remember people saying that his specialty was contested catches over the middle like Harry..

People are putting too much stock in the 40. the 40 isn't game speed. Burks plays faster than 4.55.

Metcalf was the one guy i said in that years draft that would be worth a 1st with his size and speed. Pains me to see him when we compare to N'keal

It's a data point. It's a good data point. That doesn't mean it's everything. Feel free to elaborate. That's the fun of a discussion board!

Agreed with this. I was surprised by Burks though, was expecting him in the 4.4s. Definitely plays faster in Pads, not sure if its a technical thing when it came to his 40 time. The Guy can flat out play though, just watch his tape and ignore the 40 time. That's what i plan to do with him.

Hear me out, Calvin Austin could be our Tyreek. Tyreek Hills arm length is 30.5, so the catch radius is not that different despite the size difference.

Yea this was a few years ago before getting beat up from work. Learned to appreciate the dynamics of running and how hard you have to work just to shave off a split second off it.

The times get lower every year. How much of that is the players getting faster, and how much of that is the players learning to run the 40 more efficiently?

No doubt out of the 1st. 4.55? Did he fall down and get back up or something?

It's definitely both but a lot of players are learning technique(s) early in. Training months in advance.

I'm not that surprised by Burks. I thought he was a 4.5 - 4.7 guy and ran with terrible technique.

I'd be thrilled if we got Burks in the second. It's tough but you can see the difference in a the way guys run the 40 and in real game. Ridder is a great athlete and fast AF but ran with great technique here. I think Beane describes it well here and you can see where he's at.

Every time I see or hear Gabriel Davis' name mentioned I get sad.
I was talking him for a few years and had a 2nd on him. He beat pros. Was the best player on the field a lot. Really excelled using leverage on deep stuff. That was his bread and butter but he was also a good blocker and kid. He's a great #3 solid #2 but his big play ability is what separates him. Winning deep and putting 6 changes the game no matter 1990 or 2022.

I think we can realistically leave the Bama guys sorry Mac. I don't think BB is going Draft any player in the First Two Rounds who can't play from day one. That said what's peoples take on Alec Pierce and George Pickens?? I love Pierce from observations he didn't play with a good qb seems like he's always waiting for the football. On Pickens I remember his Dad a very good player in this league. Pickens remind me of a faster more athletic Malcom Mitchell. The Patriots love Georgia players that's for sure.

Treylon Burks testing worried me a bit. Was expecting him to run in the 4.4s. Looks a lot quicker on tape than he did in the combine.
And the quicker on tape is good I remember Anquan Boldin running 4.65 but had a better career than some of those 4:3 - 4.4 guys. I have learn not to put a lot but some stock in 40 times.

Dude is the opposite of slow, although based on vertical and 40 and 10 split, it might take him a pinch to get going. He supposedly ran 22.6mph during this run below. That's darn fast. I thought I had analyzed it meticulously a month ago and didn't think he got quite up there (maybe it was my CWatson goggles), but looking at it again, I was off. He def got up there at around the opponent's 40 - good high cadence (~285spm) with what looks like ~7' steps (which is exactly 22.67mph). Would love to get the official 10 and 20 splits for his Combine 40 to see how fast he was moving from 20-40. Note that McCourty has been the fastest ball carrier for the Pats in the last 6 years at 22.05mph.

He did have ACL surgery I think in HS, but looks like he's over that. Also, he got a foot injury during camp that he dealt with all season (source: Wholehogsports) and still ran this fast.
