Bill O'Brien to be the next OC?

As a side note- with all of the current bad news/practices of the NFL hiring process; I could see a complete shutdown by the black coaching community in terms of participating in the interview process. The Pats still need to fulfill their obligations to the process and with it being almost certain that BOB or O'Shea will get the job who in their right mind would go along with this? I can see black coaches standing in solidarity with Flores and refusing to interview. Can't get much louder than that.

I believe you need to interview two external minority candidates for a coordinator position. Are there any minority candidates on their radar on the offensive side of the ball?

Speaking personally, the concept of hiring a recently fired Jets HC to be the Patriots OC and then having him successfully develop a young QB and lead the offense to playoff success would be too hilariously amazing.

Although the more likely outcome is he gives Mac the Sam Darnold treatment so uh...

I am eying Gase as the next OC and would not shed a tear if he was chosen. He should be the focal point of our search. Just eyeballing the candidates and looking through the lens of BB, perhaps Gase could be a good pupil for the heir apparent.

Well doesn’t that fall at least partly to the position coaches. I believe only the tightends coach had experience in NE previously, though I could be wrong. Plus, few of the players had experience in the system. It’s probably hard to get everyone from coaches to players to buy into a new system. Especially with the talent they were putting on the field.

partly it does... But its the coordinators job to, you know, coordinate the offense... that includes dealing with the position coaches, making sure they understand what is needed to bring the players and other position coaches up to speed on where things are at, and where they are wanting to go...

Could he be a good OC? yeah... but the re flag in Miami just makes me say "hmmmm" to myself...

IMHO, the best choices to ensure stability for Mac would be BOB as OC and Hoyer as QB coach, as long as they they both want the gigs.

Hoyer has said he wants nothing to do with coaching. This has been stated several times and yet people STILL throw his name out as being a coach..

The more I think about it, the more I DON'T want BO'B back.. If I'm not mistaken, he drove two of the top WRs to play the game out of Houston in Johnson and Hopkins.

I feel like O'Brian has a very abrasive personality (maybe that's obvious) and O'Shea is easy to get along with. Who is better for Mac right now I'm not sure. Hamilton is interesting...an outsider.

IIRC - think he said something more like "why would I coach when I could still play as a backup for way more money? My wife would kill me to take a big pay cut and also have to work far more hours" ... if he can no longer make a team as a backup then perhaps his outlook changes. But who knows. I think Belichick is still comfortable with him a couple years longer.

I think that the most imoortant thing for Mac's development is for him to have one OC for the next 3 years. Given the fact, every year these coordinators get poached by other teams for vacant HC positions, it only makes sense to hire a black OC. That way you're assured no team will hire him away.
