Semi OT: Flores suing NFL and NYG. Texts from Bill involved in the suit.

There are some aspects of the Rooney rule that are stupid. But its still better than not having anything. The hiring records in the nfl are embarrassing.
Going thru the interview process for gm hc oc dc is valuable by itself whether you get hired or not- according to the overwhelming majority of interviewees, regardless of race.
A team that really likes a certain candidate- nothing stops them from hiring that guy. But if I'm an owner,I'd still want to interview other people. Its due diligence- something our goat hc has always done. You never know when it might pay off down the road

Looks like Chris Greir is gettin' some collateral damage...
Notice how some of the statements are in quotes. People will literally put anything in a text.

Here are the facts and suppositions of this issue as I see it.

1. By any measure of analysis, Brian Flores had done an admirable job in Miami over the past 3 years, He had 2 winning seasons, he had a winning record against the Pats, he showed GREAT leadership in keeping a 1-7 team together, forget about the 8-1 finish. To overcome that kind of adversity you have had to build as very strong culture in your locker room. Its what every owner HOPES he'll get when he hires a new HC. Flores DID it and got fired anyhow. He had done something no Dolphin HC had done since 2003. Flores proved himself to be a quality NFL HC.

2. His firing was all about going against the owner's illegal requests to throw games and tamper with other team's QB's. If these allegations can be proven, then he has a slam dunk case for wrongful firing. I

That being said, I don't see any racism on the Dolphins part, just a butt stupid owner.

3. What IS racism by the NFL and its owners is to talk about "diversity" all freakin year, and then in a year where there has never been such a large pool of QUALIFIED black HC'ing candidates, go 0-5 in hiring one and it looks like it might be 0-6. THIS is what triggered the "racism" aspect of this suit. Flores is taking one for the team in order point out this OBVIOUS problem in the NFL.

4. I though Flores would be the first HC hired this off season. Even Josh didn't have the success of Brian's resume, especially as a. HC, though Josh has had much longer success as a coordinator. The rest of the guys hired thus far (except Harbaugh) have got NEAR the resume Flores had and still got hired before him. Any wonder he had to wonder WHY.

5. The NFL once again has shot themselves in the foot dismissing this suit after only 2 hours and not taking it seriously, because it IS serious.

6. I would be shocked right now if Miami DOESN'T hire a black HC just in an attempt to try and disprove the lawsuit.

7. In my ideal world, Josh will take Steve with him to LV, (btw I think Steve has proven to be a very good NFL coach, but he needs to get off on his own to gain his own identity) and Bob Kraft makes a big push to bring Brian back here. It might be a long time before Flores gets another chance to be a HC, he shouldn't have to wait any time to get back on a professional staff. BTW I actually am on pins and needles waiting to see who Josh DOES take with him, if anyone.

8. The Rooney Rule is an artificial devise to at least give the impression that there is fairness in hiring HC's and executives. It is unfortunate that it has to exist. "reverse discrimination" they used to say when mandated hiring practices where put into effect to add more diversity to the workforce. And yes it DOES look unfair, except when you look at literally CENTURIES of actual discrimination black people have had to deal with. Hard to believe we STILL have to deal with this, but but although we can say things a "better". this sh!t still exists.

In theory, I somewhat agree. The reason this doesn't really work in practice is that coaches are not different in similar ways. It is not a matter of a few simple measurables. The differences are immeasurable and ultimately somewhat orthogonal.

For instance, the Giants didn't just like Daboll because he is a good offensive mind. Not all offensive minds are alike. There is something unique about Daboll; he runs a variant of a system used in New England, he guided young Josh Allen to breakout years, he's demonstrated usage of a diversity of offensive concepts, and he's been around other great minds. There is not a single other coach on the market who meets all of those markers. (Flores, for instance, could only claim one of those things; he too was around Belichick. So, if the Giants want the offensive guy, then what more can they do?)

To say that the Giants cannot have a strong preference for those markers and therefore Daboll before even formally interviewing him is akin to saying the Giants cannot even have a philosophical view they want to use to guide the organization. Coaches are closer to artists than carpenters. You can more easily interview black carpenters before hiring a non-black carpenter because there are few reasons to have strong ideological preferences (not saying I agree with this either, but it is more logical). You cannot easily interview black coaches just as a token action unless they already meet your desired philosophy.

Also, coaching is an art. I mentioned some markers for Daboll above, but those still are not who Daboll is. It's like looking at a painting and then naming a couple shapes and colors. Yes, the painting contains those things, but it's indivisible. It's a discreet monad.

Doesn't the Rooney rule only apply to interviewing quotas and NOT hiring quotas. If that's the case, I don't see how there was a violation. It might just be an aimless rule instead. Lots of organizations interview candidates, including minority ones to meet diversity recruitment plans/quotas, when those interviews happen just happen to be when they are scheduled. After a first interview an organization may say/know "this is our person" but will continue on with other interviews just to have a backup incase candidate #1 falls through or doesn't accept the offer.

The Dolphins though could be screwed, if Flores has actual proof of what he alleges or else it could just be Flores's word against Ross's word.

BB: "Sounds like you have landed - congrats!!"
BF: "Did you hear something I didn't hear?
BB: "Giants?!?!?"
BF: "I interview on Thursday." "I think I have a shot at it."

The way that BB responded with ?!?!?! makes me think BB thought Daboll already knew that he was going to get hired. I wonder if this text exchange is just an appetizer. I guess we'll see what happens.

I would love to see him come back to the Pats as I think no one else will touch him at this point but knowing RK he won't do it as it isn't good for his other '31 billionaire club boys '!!!!!

Pats lose 10 draft picks and fined 20 million dollars...to recoup Ignoroidell's azzhat suit in Dehategate...

Not sure if sarcasm (I can be pretty dense), but here we go:
Ok, allow me to adjust my original statement for the past tense. Do you know of any black billionaires who wanted to buy a franchise but were barred from doing so?

The NFL/Goodell have single handily destroyed the word Integrity. It will be decades before anyone can use that word to describe being honest and having moral principles.

it is? then why have teams across the NFL spectrum refused to even implement one demonstration of the rule since Rooney died?
Which begs the question, if the Rooney rule isn’t doing what it is supposed to, what should the league do to address the situation.

I’m sure there are those that think minority coaches have a fair and equal shot but history paints a different picture.

I think Belichick has an unwritten code in which his coaches don't pilfer his staff after walking out the door...

I think that is what soured the Mangini situation...

The reason why the Rooney rule is so stupid is that any owner should be hiring in their own best interest.

In a language they may understand, Goodell and the NFL should be putting more emphasis on making the owners want to WIN and make more MONEY. Parity shouldn't come at the cost of enabling idiots.

Cut down on shared revenue and dismiss the fake anti-racism bs. Hire the best candidates (Flores being the cream of the crop).

Find a way to get rid of the dumba$$ owners.
