an ad that could have waited until after the super bowl…the guy loves attention
Hulu paid for it to be aired during the Super Bowl and happened to feature Brady. That was them not Tom.

he has plenty of say in when he wanted the ad to air. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Good detail. That makes sense. Also lines up with comments from his agent Don Yee: "Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what's being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy... He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon."

My money is on Gisele being behind this leak to prevent him from backtracking or changing his mind down the road once his body fully heals and he's got plenty of time...

And he gets that itch...

I never ever blame the wife because it’s such a tired dumb old trope for all of history and people who actually know what they’re talking about have reported how over the past 15 heard Giselle has been extremely supportive of Brady’s career and indeed helped inspire him to play hardball over it. BUT in this case I think this might finally be true. Schefter and Darlington would only run a story like this so confidently with THE most ironclad info. And if it’s not Tom who else has that authority?

I was wondering if Godell will be willing to give him a farewell gift ... like the 2021 MVP title ...
I think Tom would rather have his gift be a free shot.

I wonder if Rob Parker hacked Mac10/TommyBrady12 account.

Are you going to tell on me again like you did in the Gronkaneers thread so that I get banned?

It wouldn't have mattered if he lost 70-3 to the Rams.

Nobody is going to remember the losses. His wins are so amazing that it overshadows any bad loss.
What? One mention of Helmet Catch or Philly Special and this place goes nuts.

Brady giving back the signing bonus is a non-starter IMO, he signed a two year deal for 50 million and that's almost exactly what's he's earned to date not including Super Bowl bonuses and incentives. He'll work with them to spread the dead cap out, I don't think he's giving a dime back.
Well, according to Sportrac, only $5M of the last $20M signing bonus has been paid, the rest is deferred. I was wondering all along if this was a carrot to try to get him to come back in 2022 since his cap hit is going to be bad.

What a Brady retirement would mean for Bucs

The Buccaneers would have $32 million of dead money, which is a salary cap charge for a player no longer on a team's roster, with Brady retiring before June 2. That's almost $11.8 million more than Brady's 2022 cap number. Retirement would void the $8.925 million salary guarantee.
This increase could be avoided with waiting to process a Brady retirement by carrying him on the roster until at least June 2. By doing so, the $24 million of bonus proration associated with the dummy or fake 2023 through 2025 contract years would be a 2023 salary cap charge rather than part of the 2022 dead money, which would be $8 million. The Buccaneers would pick up $12,270,588 of 2022 cap room with Brady's 2022 salary and $1.875 million of incentives deemed likely to be earned that have a cap charge coming off the books.

So, if I'm reading this right, even if he retires on paper after June 2 he hits their cap with $8M in 2022 and $24M in 2023, all this for a guy who is no longer on the team and them needing to find a starting QB and resign a lot of veteran players.

I would guess (Big Ben is) pretty used to that shadow by now!
He does his best work there!

lol Alex wants Brady to play until he’s 60 are you kidding me? Once Brady retires his own relevancy falls off a cliff.
I totall agree.

I think the only way aging athletes retain mindshare is to get a TV gig.

I suppose that's what Tommy will have to aim for.

Look at this list:

Whom of these guys do we think of any more, except for the ones who are still playing or on TV all the time?

Even the TV guys don't move the needle much, but ones who aren't (like let's say Montana) have pretty much disappeared from most people's mind except for the occasional time they show up on TV.

Nah you're "real" Patriots fan you can't troll this main board

No you misunderstood me. I didn’t mean to say Brady’s relevancy falls off a cliff after retirement. God no. At least not in my house. I meant ALEX.

I think Brady can announce his retirement at any time, but the Bucs do not have to change his status to retire/reserved status or release him until after June 2 (or release him with a June 2 designation). Brady making an announcement he is retiring doesn’t officially change his status with the NFL.

I expect the Bucs to release him when he retires with a June 2 designation so that Brady can retire as a Patriot.

As for his bonus, he gets it I think the end of the week or the beginning of next week. There is no real incentive other than his base salary for 2022 to keep him playing. That isn’t enough for a guy who is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

NFL Network panel favorite Brady memories roughly transcribed
Moss - getting me from the Raiders in 2007 and everyone said I lost a step. Did I really? My favorite memory was that last game against the Giants before Tom and I broke those records. We missed it on the first try and I was frustrated and we really wanted it. My QB then called “Same exact Play on 1”. TD and record. So who lost a step? That is my memory with the great TB12.

Bruschi: Brady’s last drive in SB36

Rex Ryan: 45-3 “the biggest butt kicking I ever took” but my favorite one was getting him back and finally beating him in the playoffs.

Hasselbeck - The journey. All that work at a high level and also be all-in at home with his family. I have so much respect for how hard that is to do.

Sam Ponder - ”My husband can’t throw it and catch it!“ lol

Pats smell like a rose. Brady smells like new brass from that heavy ass ring and another Lombardi.
He does. And so do the pats for letting him walk. It's one of the best decisions they ever made. If they kept him. They would be left with their shemenzer in their hands. And no 7th ring to show for it.

Funny how the Bradyites just show up on the main board for the first time all season when Brady retires...

Just remember, there's no additional salary cap significance of a signing bonus being deferred. The player is guaranteed that money. The guaranteed amount is just spread out for salary cap purpose based on the contract length, etc.

The $15M brady is due he is entitled to if he retired night of the Rams game or on Feb 3rd or later. The deferred is to manage cash inflow of the franchise. I imagine a lot of that had to do with so many player contracts being converted/extended with signing bonuses to keep the BUCS in tact for 2021 season so was easiest to have Brady defer the payout.

Brady retires just in time to take over here for Josh? Lol

I think someone said better to leave a year early than a year late. I can't recall who it was, tho.
